I'm doing the 350 swap and want to run 35's and run around 300 hp and as much torque as I can get. Will my d30 hold? What would be a good axle to swap in the front if the 30 won't hold?

It'll hold...until you drive it ;)

d44s are relatively easy to come by that bolt right up and are pretty strong. Or one tons, not sure exactly which one would work best.

I'd go straight to a 60 front. kinda an expensive lesson to learn if it turns out it won't hold up to abuse. :ack:

what front axle you will look for depends on what t-case you're running; pass drop or drivers drop.

Looking at driver side. I intend on buying a whole donor chevy, so I will have to watch what axles are under the donor before I buy it. Hopefully I get lucky with something!

a front d44 out of a tj isnt much stronger then a d30... if you don't wheel hard and want to stay on 35s a dana 44 should work. but of course a dana 60 is always better. You will be looking for a ford or wagoneer d44 if you want driver side drop. Like pete said chevy axles are passenger

IMHO, It all depends what kind of wheeling you do, or whether you are going to run a locker or not. In my expirence a Dana 30 is fine on 35s open as long as there is stock gearing in the t-case. If you are romping threw the mud, with a open 30, you will most likely be fine. Just keep a eye on your u-joints after every and it might not hurt to carry a spare shaft or two. EZ to change.

Now if you plan to rock crawl and USE that 300 hp, yes Dana 44 minimum.

What are your plans for the truck?

8" long arm lift, 35's and DD, doing some trails(light/medium) and mud. I will most likely use the power liberaly, I have a lead foot and all my buddies just mud so I'll be slingin a lot.

Nevermind. In the course of the last few days I've decided to just do a 4.0 swap. Better for what I want, 350 will go into a full rig, not a DD. Sticking with the d44 and d30, runnin 33's so I think I should be good, but gearing is my biggest issue. I have no idea what to gear to. I believe I have 4.10 in the 30, but the 44 should have like 3.55 or 3.73(came from an 87 cherokee with tow package). Need input on the best gear ratio, or just options on gearing in general.

Even though 4.10 gears aren't optimal for 33" tires, I think they'll be good enough. That way you'll only have to regear one axle. And if you're used to a 4 cylinder you'll be pleasantly surprised by the increased power.
