well i finally scored my chrome 8 slot and while i was there i stumbled upon a chrome 21 slot as well. snagged both. well now I'm home and trying them on and really i can't decide which to run with. i like my 10 slot but always wanted an 8. now ive got a 21 that kind of has me interested in it. i figured id throw up some pics and let you guys help me out with your opinions.

8 slot

10 slot

21 slot

its kind of like the 21 has too much going on but then again its weird in a good way to me. i love running my 10 because it looks right to me. the 8 looks as good as i expected but now ive got two other choices lol. what do you guys think???

the 21 came off a plain jane 92 two door XJ that wasnt even listed as in the yard. random find for sure. it is a lot of grill compaired to the others but as crazy as it is, its the one i went with for now. just to see if i like looking at it. its weird but different. thats what got me on it. ive got a black 8 slot and the original 8 slot camo'd out. which i think was black as well but i want chrome. it looks so much better then black for a grill

IIRC the 21 slot came on 84 through 86 XJ Wagoneers.

But my memory has failed me before.

My 4 light Waggy front came from an 86, I too have wondered what years the 21 slots came from... pretty sure they were a 2 headlight XJ Waggy... just still stumped on the years.

I've been having reoccurring grill daydreams lately. I want a Seven Slot Grill with round headlights. So, before someone tells me to get a CJ, TJ, early Commando or FC, I was thinking if I were to get a 10 slot grill and section out the two middle slots and another half slot each side from the center cuts, I would be left with a narrowed 7 slot grill after using platic weld to put it back together. Of course, It would now be too narrow, so I would slice the headlight/turnsignal buckets off the ends and graft in some round headlights from say, a Liberty. Some bondo and plastic weld on a few tabs, and low and behold, a 7 slot grill. I really need a life.

If my other computer was up, I had saved a picture of an XJ that someone grafted on the front end of an International Scout... I didn't think it looked too bad.

I have a '84, 85 and '86XJ Wagoneer All 3 has the 21 slot grill, chromed, and single headlights.

I would like to get a dual headlight setup but haven't found one.

I kinda like chrome a little bit. :D But I have to say the 21-slot is way over the top. The 10-slot looks okay, but still too busy. I like the 8-slot IF the chrome is blackened out of the slots; makes for a good balance IMO. In fact that's what I did to mine recently.

I've seen several attempts for round headlamps on MJ/XJs, but that look has never worked for me. Kudos for the quality build on this XJ and for thinking out of the box, but I prefer the box headlamps on our box vehicles. Chrome mirrors look nice though.

Wait, those kind of grills?

Rob

The 8 slot is always the best looking grill on an XJ, no matter how it is painted or plated.

too bad we're driving MJs :D

Hornbrod, i saw that you did that to your 8 slot and it does look better then with the extra chrome. might have to go that route

The 21 slot is a 1st gem XJ Waggy grille.... before the 2nd gen that had an Ambassador style grille with quad headlights.
