A-man930
Got some 4x6x1/4 rec. tube "donated" to me by a neighbor so I headed out to a buddy's house and got the welding and grinding going earlier today. Don't expect to get to work on it again very soon but here's the progress.
A-man930
anyone know by chance how much the stock bumper weighs? I'd be interested to see how much weight I'll be adding with this crazy thing.
SW86
looks like a great start. are you not going with side rails?
A-man930
yes, I plan on trimming the lower bedsides and bringing some 3x3x3/16 box up to meet the wheelwells.
A-man930
Got the bed off the other night to get a better idea what I'd be attaching this thing to. The lack of rust is nothing short of amazing.

KYMJ
PO checking in. I can't take responsibility for the lack of rust. I did a Carfax on the truck, just for the heck of it when I bought it. The truck was originally bought in Meridian, Mississippi, went to Virginia Beach, Va, spent some time in Central TN, before it wound up in the Lake Barkley area of Western KY(my favorite stomping grounds). Tops the list for 'things I sold which I regret'.
A-man930
Why do you think I was in such a hurry to nab it? I was just waiting for you to change your mind! ;) You know she's in good hands :wrench:So on a related note. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should go about cleaning the inside of the framerails?I bought two cans of this: Seems like pretty cool stuff, but I can promise you that it won't stick worth a crap to all the muddy turds clung to the sides.I want to pressure wash it all out, but I can't seem to find anyone who sells a length of hose with a diffuser/fan spray at the end to snake into one of these holes and actually get good coverage... any ideas? A-man930
Getting carried away... I'm down to bare metal over most of the big surfaces. Just have to get into the corners and I'll be ready for POR-15!
A-man930
After pressure washing the inside of the frame: I just couldn't stand to paint over someone else's nuts...

A-man930
I wanted to get the inside of the frame really clean. This is a "sewer jetter" nozzle at the end of a pressure washer hose and it worked great for removing all kinds of goodies.
H3RESQ
Interesting. I like that sewer nozzle. Looks like it would works great.

A-man930
Now to make room for the side rails. My wife and I both cringed putting the cutoff to her, but it should be worth it {SMILIES_PATH}/comanche.gif Here you can see how low the factory bumper mounts hang. My mounts are almost the full height of the frame... more cutting
A-man930
Long, long overdue progress. Decided to mirror the factory bumper mounting bolt locations on the inboard sides of the frame. Making the reliefs in the bed taller and wider was quite time consuming.
A-man930
These will make the rearmost section of the frame a flush surface.
Alexia
Nice work with the frame spacers. I have the same problem installing my rear bumper. I chose to put washers under the bumper plate for now, but that is obviously not ideal for load distribution.
A-man930
Need to step up in length, but this is the idea.

If I had a ton of extra time on my hands I'd weld in a couple sections of tube to further strengthen the box but I'm trying to control myself
