Build Date on door label

Is there another way to check the build date on MJ"S besides the door label? I checked 15 MJ doors for build dates. Only one was legible. 2 were painted over and might be readable if the paint was gently removed, or maybe not. That's 12 illegible labels. I find it hard to believe that I am the only one with this problem, or am I? :dunno:

I can read the "headings" but not the info pertaining to my truck. They must have used a cheap ink because the information is all faded away.

Nope, your not the only one Jim. If I need to, I usually just call the local dealer with the VIN, and they can give me the build date.

I needed to replace my doors so I had the body shop cut mine off. When I got the truck home, I realized I couldnt read mine either. The headings were fine but the important stuff was faded away.

Mine is somewhat legible but I have all the original paperwork anyway :D

I see parts of 1986 and thats it on mine. I will look closer when its not raining around here! :hmm:

if you can't see the label check under the hood on the driver side firewall above the brake booster. There should be a year tag on the emissions sticker...at least you get the year.

I am aware of the emissions label year date. My primary concern was getting the month in trying to find the last '92 built. So actually is after '92 info more than the other years. Also think it's crappy that they put a info label on a vehicle that doesn't hold up. With all the interest looking for the last MJ built, why is there not the same interest in trying to find the first one built? Would the VIN be 000001, or would they start it with 1? 100001? Curious minds want to know. :popcorn:

My VIN is 003550. My build date sticker is long gone. I have found parts in my truck that date back to 04/86. I still have a $20 reward hanging out there if someone can show me documented proof of her actual birthday.
