JENSSEN Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 What years and models of XJ/MJ did the black dashboard come in? I am on the hunt for my 89 Comanche
terrawombat Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I know that many of the "Chief" trim packages for the MJ and XJ came with black interiors, but I believe only on the 1984-1987 model years. I know that automan will likely chime in to clarify :D Elusive.
dasbulliwagen Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I know in MJ's it was 86-87 only, and most likely the same for Cherokees 84-87.

My4 cylinder 87 bare-bones base package (not even a cigarette lighter or dash clock) had a black interior with a bench (ZJ seats now), but not sure if it was factory or swapped in at some point in time.
glundblad Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I must confess. I am not sure I understand what the infatuation is with the black interior. Why is it so sought after?? When we were shopping for our red chief, I wanted tan.

When we were shopping for our red chief, I wanted tan. I don't understand either. I have always wanted red interior. I was very happy to see it in mine when I went to look at it to buy!!
64 Cheyenne Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 87 Sportruck - Black interior 88 MJ Chief - Blue interior What about black? It's Sinister, Bad *ss , Cool. The 87 is going to have a red/black theme. Anybody remember when the glass guy tore up my black dash? And he couldn't understand why I was so pissed. Kind of like black and chrome on my Harley....... :dunno: Just somethin about black.......
1987Comanche Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 My '87 base Sportruck (2.5, AX-5, 2WD) had a black interior with a black vinyl bench.
JENSSEN Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 I want the black dash to go with the 99 door panels on the dump humper project,... Black is so much easier to match up over grey.
JENSSEN Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 Here's a little porn for ya! Rob L. :D Bastid! Ship it to canuckistan to me!
JeepcoMJ Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I want the black dash to go with the 99 door panels on the dump humper project,... Black is so much easier to match up over grey. or just get grey 99 door panels..
mvusse Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Add hockey stick door handles and map pockets and that is the interior in my trail truck. Thinking of switching them with my other one, though.

JENSSEN Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 Maybe the dash needs to be cleaned deep down but the grey door panels dint seem to match the dash
veritas4156 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 How much of a pain in the arse is it to pull the dash out like in those pics? I'm already planning on redoing the doors so that's not an issue, my seat is torn to $#!& so I'm either gonna do a blackish saddle blanket on it or re-vinyl it, but I never actually looked to take the dash out that far. I'm really just being lazy right now by not going outside and looking.
JeepcoMJ Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 removing the dash is a 2 hour job for a first timer. search "dash removal" in the search feature.
