Later XJ Dash?

Recommended Posts

Been looking everywhere, and I'm going to assume this is a topic that has been beaten to death. But does the later XJ Dash fit in the Comanche? I want to think it would, or it not, it would with some finessing....but I would want the answers here instead of listening to the voices in my head.... >.>

I think the only really difficult parts of that swap would be

Getting all the parts

Making the speedometer and guages work, since that dash is all electronic.

couldnt you take the the speedo cable and needle from the current one and attatch it to the gauge of the new one?

The 97+ speedo might work with the wiring in a 91 or 92 MJ, but the 90 and older had a mechanical speedo. I seriously doubt there is any way to adapt the old speedo to both fit and work in the new style dashboard.

And don't forget that Chrysler also reversed the polarity on the gauges in 1991. Hook a new style gauge up to the 90- wiring and the gauge will read in reverse ... gas gauge will say empty when the tank is full, temp will say it's 260 degrees when you first start the engine, and oil pressure will go down as engine speed increases.

don't run the cluster, you could get an autometer guage setup and a piece of aluminum in the stock cluster location, which would be really cool but a bit more expensive.

or a gps speedometer so it doesn't matter what tires, or gears you have its always right.
