  1. Hey Guys Check out this truck and take a look at the link for a bunch more pictures. All credit goes to some guy on jkboard.com http://forum.jkboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=2966 edit: Sorry, I guess I should have put this in the pub or something. I wasn't thinking. I won't feel bad if somebody moves it or whatever.
  2. Carnuck, That's great that you have a couple of switches, would you consider selling one? How much? I really would love to get one. What part of seattle do you live in? I am actually up north of bellingham but am down to visit my sister in Bellevue quite often. Let me know PM me if you prefer Landon
  3. What about paint removers or something like that. I don't have a sandblaster and want to do it as cheap as possible. Anybody?
  4. I'm not exactly sure but I have heard that MJ had a different firewall. So all MJ's will fit a 4.0 with a few hammer taps. I only needed like an inch of clearence in one spot when I did the swap. The radiator wasn't that bad either like Jeepco said. However I have also read that 84 to 86 XJ's have a different firewall then the 86 MJ and the 87+ XJ's and MJ's so they will not fit a 4.0 but I have never actually looked myself. Hope this helps
  5. Hey guys... Does anybody know if there is an "easy" way to remove the paint from a wheel. I have a full set of grizzly wheels from a TJ that I would like to use but I hate the dark grey paint. I would love it if I could just go to a polished aluminum. Any Ideas? They look like these: http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/collinsbros_1940_42809762 Why don't my pictures work? Regards Landon
  6. Thanks Jeff, You don't have an extra one do you? (wishful thinking) Anyone know where I can find one? Landon
  7. Has anybody ever found a vacuum control valve/switch that can be used in replacement of the valve inside the transfer case? Here is the background of this question. My '86 now has a transplanted engine, transmission, and transfer case from a '95 cherokee. The '86 has the vacuum disconnect front axle and the '95 did away with this "feature" so there is no vacuum control on the new transfer case. Right now I have slid the fork over to the other side of the C-clip so I have 4wd(thanks girsmj86). Eventually I want to either put in a locker or maybe just weld the front differential; but if I do this I would want to have that central axle disconnect back. If my understanding of this whole system is correct, I just need to find a control valve of some kind that will change the direction off vacuum just like the valve inside the transfer case. What do you guys think? Have any of you done this? Any ideas? I know I can go out and spend $200 to get the posiloc cable activated thing but I was just trying to do it a little cheaper.
  8. That is a really good looking FC150, I've got a 170 but it's not looking as good as that guys 150. They are fun little vehicles though.
  9. In regards to your CAD fix, does that cause the front drive shaft to spin regardless of whether or not you are in 4wd?
  10. Well when i'm driving it the speedo is fast, when i'm going about 50 it says i'm going 55 or faster.... So if I understand it right it would mean that the XJ the engine and transmission and speedo came out of was geared higher than the gears in my xj axles.... So I am assuming the XJ had 3.55 gears. Does my logic make sense?
  11. I don't have the AMC20 unfortunately. Well i still have the whole jeep with axles. You think going to 3.55 would be better than 3.73? I thought everyone is always trying to get lower gearing like 4.10 or 4.56. Forgive me for my lack of knowledge I'm new to the gearing thing.
  12. I guess I failed to mention my swap was from a totaled 95 cherokee with a 4.0 aw4 and NV231, and I agree the 2.8 was and is junk and the 4.0 with the aw4 is a huge improvement.
  13. Thank JeepcoMJ, I just finished installing Engine, Transmission, Transfercase, Dash, Steering Column, fuel pump/gauge sending unit, and all the electrical over. It was actually a pretty easy swap, and I have never pulled an engine before. The only things I am still working on is the hood latch (bungy cords in the mean time) and the CAD system. (I want my 4wd back) Any ideas on the CAD system? I would like to keep the feature but I need to find a vacuum switch or something to make it work. I could tell my speedo was off but was trying to figure out how much it was off. Thanks again
  14. What gearing would a 86 2.8l automatics have? 3.55? 4.10 Anybody know?
  15. Well, I am about 90% done with my swap, I have a few odds and ends to take care of and I'll be done. I still need to -Rewire the plugs that go to the rear of the truck (Fuel Pump/Sender, Brake/Tail/Blinkers/etc) -Move the tranny support back -Shorten the Drive shaft -Connect the brakes (I need new lines to go to the distributor block) -Install a 97+ Front end (the cherokee i bought had front end damage) It seems as if its been going really well but I'll have to wait at least until i get the fuel pump connected so I can see if I did everything right. I pulled the fuel pump/sending unit out of the xj tank and it fit right into the mj tank so hopefully that will work out, hopefully i'll find out tonight. Scott86MJ what did you do for your tranny support bracket, I have some ideas, I was just wondering what you did? Landon
  16. Has anybody heard anything about rear bumpers for the lwb?
  17. Alright most of you are probably sick of the 86'er guys (who could also be refered to as the guys not smart enough just to buy an 87+ to begin with) talking about this swap and that swap trying to get rid of the dog that it is 2.8l v6. But I have a few questions and requests to those select few who have done the 2.8 to 4.0 swap. (Minydigger, derjeager, Scott86mj... anybody else?) Could you give a brief write up on your swap. The parts i'm most interested in are: the radiator cross arm hood catch and release, did you use the xj hood? any pictures of areas in the engine bay any things you had difficulties with that your experience would help ease the next guys difficulties. What year the donor XJ was Pictures would be awesome. I've been reading up for some time on the swap an just started it myself, the 904 tranny had just gone out on my MJ so I just picked up a rolled 95 XJ with a 4.0 and AW4 for $300. Here is my MJ Here are some links to projects that i found while researching Scott86mj's Project http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1965&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=engine+swap&start=0 MinyDigger's Project http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1272&highlight=
  18. qustion for sinnaevd or any one else what did you do for motor mounts?
  19. Alright guys some more tranny questions... My 904 has died and I really want to upgrade to an aw4. I would love to also put in a 4.0 but funds don't allow at this point. I have a 86 2.8l 4x4 LWB with an np207 From my research it seems I could mate a aw4 to my 2.8 Is that true? I found an AW4 for an 87 4cyl 4x4 with bellhousing in a junkyard What else will I need? TCU, what else? Also will my transfercase mate up alright? What about drive shafts? Thanks
  20. Alright guys well a couple weeks ago during a snow storm something happened to my 86' 2.8l TF904 4x4 don't know when it happened but I was on my way home and noticed I was leaving a blood trail. By the time i got home (a mile after I noticed it) I limped in but was loosing power to the wheels. I hoped it might just be because it was low on fluid and I had just busted a tranny coolant line or something but no luck. It seems to be something else. I am not real experienced with this type of problem. Anybody have any thoughts? Is my tranny shot? Next Question.... If my tranny is shot what are my options on replacing it. Is there any possibility of finding a transmission with a 4 or 5 speed. This thing as it is feels like its going to explode when I'm at 50 or 55 mph. I only have about 90,000 miles on the truck and really love it regardless of the water leaks i can't seem to find and the lack of power but it's rust free and drives pretty nice still. Anybody have any thoughts or answers to my questions?
  21. When you say later model XJ are you talking about a 97+ or just later then 92 when they stopped making MJ's? I have often wondered about the 97+ dash/interior that would be an interesting mod
  22. Found this at http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=296495 I though this was pretty sweet. I like the gladiator concept but man one of these with the Diesel they are putting in it next year. Maybe an extended cab too. Sign me up
  23. Thanks for the offer although I should have mentioned that I only need the floor end. My shoulder straps are fine, just the floor ends are screwed up. Thanks for the offer though.
  24. Hey I was just wondering if anybody had a parts vehicle with seatbelts still in it that they would want to sell. My 86 has busted ones both sides if you can believe it. I would prefer tan/spice or red but don't really care if the price is right. Thanks
  25. Sure does it blow ice cold. Is your suprise an indication that they don't normally work well?
