I've never seen the official crash test results but I did see a reference to the Comanche in a book I recently read. "The Yugo: The rise and fall of the worst car in history" referenced the Comanche but it wasn't flattering. It noted that only 2 or 3 vehicles scored worse than the Yugo in crash tests...one of which was the Comanche.

Its not too high for sure, but crashing is a good way to up grade

that's my excuse for doing a 97+ front end swap

Is it a bad thing that I think this is kinda cool? I feel like a BA driving around a deathtrap... Of course to all those teenagers needing an excuse to their parents why they need to lift their jeep 15 feet (including myself) tell them its because right now when that honda Tbones you it will probably kill you instead of going under your chassis comanche.gif

That crash was a neck breaker literally! I got in a fender bender in my MJ and nothing happened to my truck but a Honda civic was totaled.

All that happened in my crash (not more than 10 mph) was the header panel cracked pretty bad and my left fender got a little beat up. The rear passenger door on the VW had a pretty big dent in the rear passenger door tho.

Betcha mine was cheaper to fix, gotta' love Jeeps! There's a lot more of 'em at the pick-n-pulls than newer VW's

The goal tho is NOT to get in an accident tho...

That's the new Cherokee (97-01), aren't they supposed to be safer?...

I got into a head on accident with an F350 in my old Cherokee (was lifted 8" on 36's), him about 40-50 and me about 20-30. My driver side rail was smashed in a few inches, the pass rail was kinked, the apron and upper rail collapsed, the door got pushed back, the drivers a-pillar became more vertical, the tunnel (where the shifter is, was an auto) became vertical on he pass side, the tunnel (below the rear seat) kinked on the pass side, the b-pillar ripped a little and there was a dent in the roof (where it caved in in the video). The Ford ended up going as far as pushing the tire back to bend the crossmember on my long arm setup and smashing the brake rotor.

After all that, I ended up kicking the door open and walked away with only a small gash on my left cheek, a minor concussion and a bruise on my left shoulder from the seatbelt, and I had no airbags!

So was one of those other "2-3" vehicles the Cherokee? Just wondering since it would stand to reason that a MJ would be safer than an XJ in a rear end collision, since youve got a whole lot more space between you and the car. Since the front is nearly identical I would think a front/side collision would be the same.

The Yugo book didn't mention the XJ, just the MJ. They might have been referring to side impact tests, which would make sense. The MJ has less structure to absorb a side impact and the MJ doors have no Nader bars.

i totalled a honda (rear-end collision, my fault) put the trunk lid in the back seat, other guy was fine, i was fine, i drove home.

killed a header panel, jarred the radiator into the clutch fan and shredded some tubes out of it, busted a headlight and park light.

also killed the aftmkt rustys tow-hooks/frame plates (which i believe took most of the force)

~250$ later, trucks perfect.

i would say its a fairly safe truck, this was at ~25-30mph

and you'll note the front bumper on my truck didnt get a single dent.
