I usually hang out at virtualjeepclub.com

  • 4 weeks later...

I have an 1988 MJ now. The truck is very clean and only has 600 miles on a rebuilt engine. Now I have a problem. I was looking for a truck to put 33 inch tires on, small lift and cut out the fenders like I did on my Waggy and beat it offroad. This truck is in great shape, no rust or dents and to clean to chop up in my opinion. I think I am changing directions and only go with 31 inch tires and a small lift without cutting up the body and make more a daily driver. What is a good size lift for 31's without rubbing issues and who makes a good one for the MJ's. Thanks

don't bust it up....just put a little 2-3" lift on it and some 31s itll look hot

Whatever I do to it, I want to be able to go back to stock one day. It might be more of a mall crawler, take it to some of the local car shows. Don't really see any MJ's around here for some reason. I like the look of both of yours.

31"s will fit with no lift, and rub on the lower control arms, but if you replace them with WJ Grand Cherokee lower control arms you will do away with that problem, they are also stronger peices. But a 2" front spring spacer, and maybe some Chevy drop shackles for the rear springs and youll be right where you want to be. Nice truck, and nice waggy. Keep us updated!

One day I aspire to make my NJ rust-bucket SporTruck look like this. I am very jealous. Do you mind me asking what you paid for such a gem?

I paid $3400 for it. The guy had fat folder of reciepts of the work he has done to it. He owned it since 2003.

Rebuilt engine with 600 miles on it, replaced every sensor/sender on it. Recent brake work, new discs/drums, master cyl/powerbooster, used rear prop valve. Was painted a couple of years ago. New carpet. Radiator and water pump 3 years old. Replaced weather stripping for doors and other little stuff. The guy was planning to move back east to his farmland and was fixing it up to take with him to haul stuff around his property. He decided that he didn't want to tear it up and was just going to get a beater truck instead when he moved there. This is not really what I was looking for, but was very clean and could not pass this up. So looks like I am just going with about a 3 inch lift and some 31 inch tires. Mainly daily driver and camping. I will just use my Waggy for the harder stuff, since I don't mind getting dents in that if they happen.

Or you can Waggy your MJ to make a matched set....like mine!

Thats what I wanted to do, have matching XJ/MJ. Planned on changing the grill like you did and cutting it up to put 33's on it with fender flares. Also was thinking about painting it the same color and put woodgrain sides. Than I found this truck and my plans have changed. Might still look for a beater to do my original plans. They are hard to come by around here for some reason. I have been looking and have yet to see one on the road. I also have not seen one at a junkyard. Strange. Are these trucks that rare?
