Hi,

I'm not exactly sure if this relates to MJ's but on my XJ (stroker equipped) I ran an Airflow snorkel in conjunction with a K&N Apollo cold air induction intake.

The snorkel is available on Australian E-Bay and retails for about $300.00 AUD, its one of the only snorkels i know of that works in conjunction with all aftermarket flares,

very easy to install and looks the goods, it also has a fair diameter. In conjunction with the K&N Apollo (cone filter in a baker-lite housing) i had a neat setup.

Here are my thoughts.

What's the point? The 4.0L engine isn't a powerhouse struggling to breath because of a restrictive stock intake design. Adding a fancy K&N filter isn't going to net you enough horsepower to justify the cost. The only thing you'll be able to do is brag to your buddies that you have a K&N.

Snorkel? Do you actually NEED one? Are you fording rivers? Given this year's summer drought, I doubt it. 9 out of 10 snorkels I see on 4x4's are only there because the owner thinks it looks cool.

I went with the Cowl method and I have no regrets on it, at first it feels sketchy as hell, and the noise bothers the crap out of you but I have no problems with it what so ever, and never have had a issue with water seeping in.

I would like to know more about this. this is the one I'm most likely gonna go with. how did you keep the water out? and can u hear it when your inside of the cab?

I just moved my intake/filter further up towards the firewall:

using some prebent exhaust tubing:

If the water gets that high against my firewall, I'm gonna have more problems than my engine sucking air (water level would be about chest high inside the cab by then).

For the distributor I used one of those 5.0L Mustang rubber distributor wrap around boots.

There's a vent at the top of the stock 4.0L dist cap, so if you needed more than that, you could always seal the cap, and run a line to the breather.
