MJRemi Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Hi all, I'm looking at a local 87 MJ 4x4 4.0 5spd. I have a 89 2x4 2.5 4spd. Is there anything in particular I should focus on concerning the 87 model that is unique to that year? I really would love to get the 4.0 4x4 even if I have to sell the 89 to do it, let alone the fact that my wife will probably kill me when she finds out I'm even considering getting a "new" Comanche. Also, has anyone been able to use flickr for photos? I can't seem to make it work..or should I just switch to a different photo site? Thanks.
Pete M Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 specific to 87? not really. but to MJs in general... check for rust: under carpet, behind bedside panel (look up from below), rockers, bottom edge of doors. Even if you're in a "rust-free" zone and the seller advertises a "rust-free" truck, check under the carpet. No MJ is immune to water leaks in the cab.
MJRemi Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 I'm starting to think you have this thing about rust:). I figured I'd check the usual stuff but wanted to know if there were certain engine or tranny concerns for the 87.
freakjeep93 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 weve alll got a thing about rust lol. don't forget between the cab and box,and front leaf spring mounts. if its a ba/10 5 make sure its in good shape
Pete M Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I live in Michigan. Rust has this thing about me. It will slowly and methodically destroy all that I hold dear (that's made of steel anyhow). :(
freakjeep93 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 i live on the coast in canada rust quickly and brutally destroyse everything made of steel
MJ is dead Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Pete, methinks you need to buy a Saturn :rotf: Also, screw flickr, use photobucket
Jerry Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Rust has this thing about me. It will slowly and methodically destroy all that I hold dear (that's made of steel anyhow). :( Like wise. This "Honey Goo" stuff is my favourite product ever, kills rust and creeps into nooks, crannies and water traps to stop any further rusting http://www.kleenflo.com/en/productpages/800.htm
akamcbird Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 ba10-5... if you plan to be even a little ruf on it, the tranny will hate you. photobucket rocks
MJRemi Posted June 26, 2010 Author Posted June 26, 2010 Thanks to All for the input. I'm going to look at the 87 today after work. If flickr will work (w/ Shawn's suggestion) I should have some pics soon. If it doesn't, then I will switch to Photobucket.
