Saw a Mahindra.

Yep I saw one of those weird little Mahindra trucks on the way to work this afternoon. Looks way better in person than the pics on the net. They look like they could have potential.

Interesting...wish the body crease would go straight from front to back, the dip at the door seems odd. The 2 door looks better than the crew cab verison.

Edit: We must have discussed this truck before, I found an image I made at that point showing the crease as straight:

I'm more than willing to put up with the ugly if they're as functional, economical, and the build quality is good. Big bummer with what I've heard about them is the price - thought I read somewhere in the $25-$27K range. IMO, if they're going to work over here, you need to be able to drive off the lot in a base version for under $20K.

I signed up for the test drive thing they offered, we will see if anything ever comes of it.

There's been lots of talk about this on the Liberty Diesel forum, many of these guys are interested in a small turbo diesel that the rest of the world has had for years, and want the utility of a truck.

Hopefully Mahindra can make in-roads and force some smaller diesel trucks.

Also, it has a 2200# payload capacity, haven't seen that in a compact truck since the MJ. :chillin:

I think part of the reason Jeep hasnt sued is because of the case they lost against the hummer grille. I'm sure a pretty good case in Mahindras favor could be made from that suit

Jeep sued Hummer? :hmm:

hummer put a 7 slot grill in either the h2 or h3 can't remember. so jeep sued hummer for copyright infringement i believe

I was slightly interested until I saw this. There's no way they'll sell at that price. It's an unknown vehicle from an unknown, third-world maker. There's no way I'd spend that kind on money on an experiment. I think even $20,000 is too much for a base version. To make any inroads and grab any market share at all, they need to sell a base truck for $15k to $17k and for $20k you should be able to get one with a/c, a decent radio, and at least power windows.

$27k is SOOOO not going to happen.

The grille has seven slots. Why hasn't Jeep sued Mahindra for trade dress infringement?

Mahindra still makes old CJs........maybe that has something to do with it.

Mihandra is licensed by Willys to make CJ's in India.

Well I saw it again. And I have seen the crew cab version driving around this weekend. They both say "test vehicle" on them. I talked with one of the guys driving them and he says they fit tall people very well. He was about two inches taller than me and I am 6'2". I guess they average about 28mpg in town.
