I have raced those things for years , IMHO I wouldn't touch the damd things , pure POS . Mostly Mitsubishi parts and the

ever hated timing belt . Sh@ty tensioner and pully's . After I rebuilt my fourth motor , I gave up .

Those tension pully and belt do not like cold weather , all it takes is for a couple of teeth to slip and you have yourself bent rods and

valves . Not to mention what the turbo does to the valves after 40-50k miles .

The first gen. DSM has a good cast iron block though . Good for over boosting .

When it ran , I could get easy 12 second time slips with a stock DSM .

Hey!! I remember you. You're the fella that was in front of me and I had to push ya down the strip to get ya outta the way.
:rotf:

Yeah , I gave up on drag racing cars , I moved to 8-9 second quarter mile bikes . Still DD bikes , and they still get 50 mpg . :ack:

IMHO , if you want something fast , buy a bike .

Nothing slams your cheeks to the back of your head like a bike .

I think youre thinking of the AMC eagle cars, very different from the later Eagles. The AMC eagles Might have a few parts swap over, but not enough to warrant getting one for that purpose

This site seems to have any info you could ever want for an AMC eagle. Ive always wanted one, but never had the opportunity. Their site seems to be a lot like our with a high maturity level. It says they only have 1300 members, but they delete members who don't post for 12 mos, so theyre probably still bigger than we are.

That was it. I just saw the word 'Eagle" and DING, thot I had something. For some reason I was thinking the rear axle and trans would swap.

x2, I spent about 2 years on those forums before I found my way to comanches. I still woundnt turn down an eagle wagon, or def an SX/4 or Kammback.

theres more parts what would be swapped into an Eagle than from one. theres a few builds on those forums that have nice 4.0L engines and jeep driveline in them.

they even like the 3:07s D30/D35... its and upgrade

theres even a few folks on there who have comanches also.

I am "landlubber" on those forums also.

An '85 Eagle wagon was my first car. Got it for a dollar because it would constantly stall. That BBD carb and vacuum system was butchered beyond belief, but one Nutter bypass later and it ran like a dream. Eventually upgraded to the GM HEI ignition and put on a Weber 38 DGAS (did that out in my college parking lot during a blizzard) and it was nice. That was a great car and it was a sad day when it met the bumper of another vehicle :(

To be honest when I was looking for the Comanche as another winter vehicle I had my eyes out for an SX/4 as well... just happened to find the Comanche first.

Everyone criticizes AMC engineers/designers, whatever, but there are some nice lines on that car,

especially when you consider it's a Gremlin with a face lift.

Same wheelbase, same unitbody, windshield, doors (door glass/glass frame may be different, I forget now), all mechanicals, etc etc

I like the Gremlin,

but they redesigned the quarter panels & nose of a 'niche' vehicle, whose time had come, and gone,

and turned it into a mainstream car for the masses.

Most people probably wouldn't know they were the same car, even when parked side by side.

They also made a longer wheelbase version of this same vehicle, and that became:

The 2dr, 4dr & 2dr hatchback Hornet

The 2dr, 4dr & 2dr hatchback Concord

The 4dr Sportabout (Hornet/Concord Wagon)

3 models of all wheel drive eagles (2dr/4dr/wagon),

and 2 AMX's (77 Hornet AMX, and the 78 Concodr AMX)

in addition to 2 AWD short wheelbase Spirit/SX/4 variants

(SX4 & Kammback), and a Spirit AMX (probably the nicest looking of all)

All on a chassis designed in the 1960's (for 1970 introduction).

IMO the Eagle Kammback was the best of all, since they dug the Gremmie skins back out again,

and were able to sell them to the American public one more time.

Spirit AMX (Black was even better  jamminz.gif ):
