me and dad have been looking at this truck

i own it so we don't have to pay for it but the frame is completly shot from the cab back so i was wondering how hard it would be to cut it off behind the cab and start over with heavy square tube?

anyone ever tried this.

you could do it but for the time and money required you would be better off finding a more solid base to start from. truck looks like its got more issues then just the frame

i don't know about up there but here MJs are cheap enough you shouldnt have to go that route

:agree:

While I don't know your cash situation, I would say part out the three, and save to buy one good one.

Might be time to cut your losses.

ive got a good one but i need a vehicle soon and the other one is in a million pieces in my yard and I'm hoping to convert it to 4wd and 4.0. but i want a truck for febuary so i want to fix this one. this truck here has good shocks springs, half decent breaks and just needs rust repair and break lines.

oh and my cash situation what cash?

See how solid the floors are in the cab... Things might be shot there too. Lots more work that way.

I don't know what the dimensions of the factory frame behind the cab are, but I'd try to get some HSS that matched that reasonably. I think it'd be 3x6~. Also, I'd recommend .125" for a wall thickness. And be prepared to scab/fishplate all of the joints.

Oh yeah, check local regulations. What you're doing probably isn't legal. I don't care, but one should decide how much work they want to put into something that can be issued a VI and possibly never be driven on the road again.

i think the floors are bad in this one so ill get practice replacing them so i can do it better on the resto prokects.

we are allowed to modify and repair and build frames in nb a guy just got his half ton chevy inspected wirth a completly home built frame on itt a month or 2 ago.

Have built over a couple dozen frames, Mostly trailer and dune buggy with a couple 'special application' thrown in. You would be better off financialy and work wise to find a good frame. However if you want the experience then fix the one you got. Just make a good plan B4 you start.

I would carefully look over the rest of the truck before starting. it looks pretty rotten and if you rebuild the rear frame you gonna move the weakest link somewhere else. it would be a shame to do all the work just to have it break somewhere else.

ill fix it anywhere it breaks i think itll be fun . this truck isnt gonna see anything harder than dirt roads and light work duties (haluing atv) anyway so it doesnt need to ne titanic strong I'm just gunna play with it the back frame is alot worse than the front the front is half decent

id agree if this truck didnt have good suspension breaks and a perfect engine . but the whoe reason I'm doing it is so i can have a truck fixed for febuary whn i get my license and i know that i can make alot of progress with this one by then but my other one will take me much longer

those are parts. that truck is parts. parts parts parts....

it's too rusty to be safe and fixed. it would be easier to get a decent body to start from and swap the stuff from yours to it.
