AMAZING DISCOVERY at the JY today(Part II)

Went to the JY today and stumbled across an AMAZING DISCOVERY  that all MJ owners will Love.

A Direct snap in replacement for the B-pillar lights

You will have to splice the wires but it snaps right into the excisting hole like it was made for it.

Now here's the funny part. It's an interior light from a Land Rover Discovery. :D

Enough talk, here's the pic's.

In the LH B-pillar

In the RH B-pillar

Looking from the bottom up.

Looking from the top down. You will notice that it has a small gap because of the curve of the panel, but this will not be seen when installed in the truck.

Powered Up.

Only downside to this is there is only one light per Discovery, so you'll have to find two of them to make a set. These are pretty frequent in my yard so it won't be a problem for me. I looked a little while online to find a part number but all I can find is the bulb #STC1203 ($.95). This lamp is called the Loadspace lamp and is located on the RH side rear cargo area. Not sure what all years will carry this or if maybe other models have them too. Maybe one of you dealership parts guys can find a part number and price for these. Only thing written on it is KIGASS.

SOMEONE ON HERE... Found a direct, brand new replacement for ours... That even tilt like factory, though they were black, at some parts ware house cheap... It was in a build thread... EXACTLY like stock, except newer looking, with a black housing instead of chrome...

Anyone else remember who's build thread it was?

That does KIGASS!!!

HAHAHA, Thats what I was thinking when I read that on the light. :D

ive got 2 of those sitting in a box in my seller

For real? Did you find them or maybe, hopefully, ordered them and have a part #. :brows:

I can't find any freaking MJ's (or TJ or WJ's) in my local JY's much less a dang Land Rover...

That does suck. You can pretty much gaurantee that I'll pull all that come through mine and share them with the group.

That would be 91MJdude's build. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=18422&hilit=replacement+light&start=15

His look great and I thought about those but he still had to trim 1/8 in to get them in.

The Discovery ones pop right in and can be taken out without breaken anything or removing the b-pillar. Have a regular twist in bulb that if I look, probably has a LED replacement. Don't get me wrong and I'm not kicking his at all. Just thought it was great that I found a light that fit's right in and looks good. I'm going to test it on the 86 MJ drivers side for awhile. You have to slam the heck out of that door to get it to close so it should give me a good idea on durability. The stock one falls out even when I shim the crap out of it.

This might be sacrilege, but I think the flip up/flip down mechanism on the OEM Lights is pretty lame...I want a light this is ON or OFF and bright... If I want it on, I'll open my door, or turn the little knob on the dash....THE END.

Thanks Paul! I was going nuts trying to find that thread...

I can do a little trimming to make those work... I just like the look.

I'm with you.

I figure if I really have the need to disable them so they don't come on(Stalking someone or coming in too late), I'll wire a micro toggle switch under the dash.

You were the last one to post in his thread. :rotfl2:

j/k

I had it bookmarked because I was going to get them.

I wanted to retain the 3-pole toggle lights so I used the Porsche lights that function the same way and go in easily: http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5929&p=57630&hilit=porsche#p57630.

Reason is because it's convenient when you have an interior job that requires the doors to be open for a long period of time, you can just turn them off to save the battery instead disconnecting it. On the HO's if you disco the battery you lose the stored codes and you have to drive 100 miles or so for the ECU to "relearn", and it runs like crap until that happens. Yes, I can place a 9VDC battery across the to keep the ECU codes, but it's a lot easier just to turn off the lights. I like easy................

Yeah that's all well and good if you don't have the underdash coutesy lights. What do you do for those?

There is however, a neat little thing called a fuse puller that takes a few seconds more than turning off the switch. I'm thinking the interior fuse doesn't tie into the ECU so the codes should be safe but, I've been wrong before. :dunno:

Yep, it ties into the ECU. Pulled the interior illumination fuse and I do lose the codes because it's tied into the cluster indicator circuits.

My underdash lights are LED's; they can run for days w. no problems.

And I like the 3-pole Bosch lights better.

That's nuts  I could see it tied to the illumination for the cluster but not any kind of logic circuit. Engineers, got to love them. :shake:

You just like that fact that you can say you have parts out of a porsche in your truck. :D

Or is it a Chrome thing.

To each his own. Unless you find the ones I posted in the JY, I doubt you'll pay what I found them online for. They are special order of something but are more than any other interior light in those things.

#1. INTERIOR LAMP PN: RV-AFU4091L Desc: DISCO REAR LOAD SPACE Price: $ 39.72 / Each

I may call the dealer tomorrow to see if he has a different price but I doubt it.

Yes it is nuts. That 12V fused feed also feeds one of the 12V ECU pins. Where it goes inside the ECU IDK but it drops the codes.

LOL. Actuall the Porsche lights are found in the old VW hatchbacks and squarebacks too, and it's the same Bosch lamp only with a black shell.

  • 4 months later...

Figured I pull this thread back up instead of starting a new one plus it keeps the options localized.

Found another direct fit light to replace the B-pillar lights. This one should be easier to find.

It's the trunk light out of a 2000 and up Ford Taurus and is also found in the Sable.

It separates from the black surround

Then you can put the black surround into the B-pillar by bending the tabs on the back of it.

You could paint the surround to match your trim or leave it as is. Like the Discovery one, this one also will eliminate the ability to turn the lights off at the lights themselves and there is only one per vehicle. These are a couple of bucks at the JY.

Here's one also that I found today but it will need a little help to work.

It's out of a 96 Ford Escort hatchback. It fits right in and gives you the option of turning the lights off at the light.

It has a little bigger gap at the top

Here's where it needs some help. It will not stay in the hole without something that you can clip on the back to hold it in. Shouldn't take to much as one side has a tab.

These have a smaller bulb and are not as bright but it's an option. I'm sure their is an LED that would brighten it up.

So the Taurus lamp is only a 2-pole light; ON/OFF via the door switches. Fits well though...........

Yep, door switches and of course turning the headlight knob for interior lights.

It fits well and looks really good even though the pictures kind of suck. I must of been shaking a little when I took the pic's. :shake:
