I've asked in a few build threads, but now it is getting to be the time to install it.

What are you folks doing to install these? The front part of the console will bolt down to the MJ slots, so I have that covered. What about the rear? How are you keeping it from moving around? I have the bracket that was in the XJ that this console came out of, but the tranny hump is higher in the MJ than in the XJ, causing the console to not mount flush to the floor.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey Aaron

I finally did pull my console up,

and I didn't even attach the rear. :dunce:

(guess you guys know the quality of my builds now ;) )

It was just mounted in the front, and left sandwiched between the seats in the back.

I wouldn't really recommend doing that, but since I never got back to you after pulling it out, I figured I'd spill the beans.

I can't remember if I had even tried the factory bracket.

Jim,

Does it move around much? Cause a bunch of noise? I can live with it if it isn't too bad.

The plastic composition of the newer XJ's is much quieter than the hard stuff our MJ's are made of.

I have some new seats going in, so I may try it like that for now and see what I can do later if it is an issue.

i didnt use the rear bracket either, it moves a little bit but not all that much... i have a subwoofer wedged up against it tho, so it might move around a little bit more if i didnt.... :dunno: eventually i think I'm gonna get a couple small L-brackets and use those to secure the back...

I didn't use the rear bracket either. But I did put a screw in the rearmost cupholder. The screw goes into the bracket that was used by the original console. And the screw head doesn't interfere with anything.

I put my console in today, it fit good, I didn't use the rear bracket, but I'll fab something up for it, it kind of moves around more than I want. To fill the gap at the front to the old dash I think I'll make a little panel to hold my ARB switches, should finish it off nicely.

I used the bracket on mine - just bent it a 'little' to get a good fit.

Which bracket did you use? The one that came with my 97+ console is plastic, so I don't know how well it will "bend" :dunno:

Sorry I missed this before,

I didn't really drive it enough like this to say,

seems like the others that posted were able to live with it tho.

My 'new' center console is done now (base for the 'kid seat', made out of 4" channel, with a diamond plate hinged door on front),

hopefully I'll have time to bolt it together this week.

I was trying something different.

I also ditched some of the linkage (now the shifter works in reverse).
