  1. Not mine, but a good find for someone. http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/2137586637.html
  2. The song is "In the Garden."
  3. Sorry about that - thanks for pointing it out. I only want to swap the engine. I will definitely keep my 5-speed manual. I wasn't sure if swapping the 4.0 from an automatic to a 5-speed was an issue. Also, I was wondering if the years made an issue. Obviously, 91 and up may be an issue due to the HO version of the motor, but I am hoping the 87 and 90 are interchangeable. Once again, this question is about swapping the engine only.
  4. Our 1987 4.0 with 5-speed manual recently dropped to zero oil pressure and is making lots of noise. I've actually posted the MJ for sale here and on Craigslist. Someone local called when he saw my Craigslist ad. He has a 1990 4.0 with automatic on the column. His body is rusted out, but the engine runs good. He says he will part with the entire truck, engine included, for $200. Question: Will the 1990 4.0 with automatic on the column swap into my 1987 4.0 with 5-speed manual? Mine is 4x4, I forgot to ask about his. One final note: My 1987 has brand new fuel injectors, new fuel pump, and new water pump. Thanks in advance for any info.
  5. We (son and I) are in the process of slowly rebuilding our MJ. We are trying to decide on an exterior color. Wife is trying to convince us to go with black. Our son's XJ is black with a gray interior. The MJ has a tan interior (it is actually the butterscotch interior, but I am replacing certain parts with tan from newer XJs). Anyone have any pictures of a black MJ with a tan interior? I do not think they came from the factory with this combination. The picture shows our MJ, although it is not the best shot for the interior. Thanks.
  6. We have a burgandy colored MJ, and we are going to paint it bright red. We are getting ready to start some prep work. What color primer is best to use with the bright red paint? Gray or red? Thanks.
  7. DansGreyMj - Could you give more info on the universal mat you purchased? May be of interest to many of us, including boardmanMJ. Thanks!
  8. To me, the history of the MJ should include it's relationship to the XJ, and the fact that the XJ started the SUV craze that we still see today. Also, you can go the "Heritage" section of the Jeep website: http://www.jeep.com/jeep_life/legends/heritage/ Here, they trace the lineage of the MJ all the way back to the original WWII Jeeps. Good luck with your project.
  9. CWLONGSHOT, I like how you extended the width of your bar to match the width of the cab. I don't have that option on this one, since it does not curve out as it goes up (as yours does). Nor do I have the welding skills or tools you possess! But for us, this is going to work just great. Thanks for the comments.
  10. Seeing as how I started this, I figured I'd report in on the roll bar we lucked up on. We picked it up last night. Found it on Craigslist. Not a factory roll bar - came off a Nissan Hard Body pickup. However, it is not a Nissan factory roll bar. It is some sort of aftermarket roll bar, but it fits with no modifications whatsoever. Here are the pictures: Before roll bar: After roll bar: The fit inside the bed (not yet bolted in): I was not real crazy about the "double" bar next to the cab, but I like the overall look of this bar. And I could not be more satisfied with the fit. Thanks to all who have posted pictures and shared information.
  11. This is a shot in the dark, but does anyone have experience using a Chevy Colorado roll bar like this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-Colorado-GMC-Canyon-Black-Off-Road-Roll-Bar_W0QQitemZ250571237198QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3a5735a74e The measurements that are provided work for my SWB. Have no idea about the proper height or angles of the fender well mounting plates, though.

  13. Thanks to all for the information. This is just what my son and I needed. I hope it helps others. Hopefully, we'll get even more pictures and descriptions. 89eliminator, how did you resolve the bar being too wide and the wheel mounts being the wrong angle?
  14. Let me start by saying I have searched this topic quite a bit. While the factory bars are almost extinct, bars from Dakotas (1st generation), Rangers, S10s, etc., seem to work. Would those who have any type of roll bar (stock or otherwise) be willing to share pictures and descriptions? It would help those of us trying to decide how to get bars if we want them. One note - it would probably help in the description to confirm SWB or LWB. Sometimes, pictures are chopped off, and it is hard to distinguish between the two. Thanks.
  15. On a tip from mfpdm in a recent thread, we purchased a new mini console for our MJ. Received the new mini console, and noticed there is a difference. Our old console looks like this picture: Image Not Found And the new console extends out longer towards the heater vent, like this picture: Image Not Found It amazes me that I look at these things all the time and never noticed the slight difference. It looks like it will bolt in with no problem. Anyone know for sure?
  16. dasbrick, which console are you talking about? On the mini-console we bought, we are just swapping out the new mini-console for the old damaged mini-console (this is on our MJ). On our son's XJ, we bolted in a full console in place of the mini-console. No trimming or anything. The front brackets are the same for both consoles, and you just need the rear bracket when you bolt in the full console. On an MJ, I do not know for sure if there is any trimming going from mini to full console. I think it just bolts in as described on the XJ above.
  17. Puritan21, thanks for the response. Here is a full-size tan console that popped up on eBay. It is ending soon, though. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-Cherokee-Tan-Center-Console-84-96_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4a9dcbf1c0QQitemZ320474968512QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_947wt_734 These tan ones are hard to find compared to the other colors. Good luck, and thanks again.
  18. On our son's XJ, we used 1.75 inch Daystar spacers on the front and Quadratec HD leaf springs on the rear to get about 2 inches of lift. On our MJ, we are just going to go with the 1.75 Daystar spacers on the front, since it already has the forward rake. We do not do a lot of off-roading, simply the occasional fishing and hunting trip.
  19. Thanks for the heads up on this. Just what we needed for our Comanche. In fact, I came home from work early to win the auction. (That may be a sign...) In my rush, I noticed the console was being advertised as 2WD. But aren't they all the same, just the 2WD consoles had an insert rather than the 4WD bezel? I went out and looked at our son's XJ, but he has a full-size console. Our MJ is in the shop about 30 miles away. Anyway, it is mine now. Thanks again!
  20. Thanks to both of you for the information. I'm leaning towards doing this.
  21. We restored a family-owned 1991 XJ for our son a couple of years ago as his first car. A few months ago, he ran across a 1987 MJ, and we bought it to restore as a joint project for the two of us. We are taking it very slow, as he has been accepted at college and starts in the fall. After tuition and room and board, there won't be a lot of money for the MJ! We've been talking recently about putting the camo wrap product on this over spring break. Camoclad is one of the major manufacturers of this product. Any experience or advice with camo products? Better yet, any pictures? I know there are many that may not like the idea of this. Be assured it will only be a temporary thing, perhaps until he is out of college in a few years. I searched on this, but did not find a lot. I've attached a picture of the MJ. Thanks in advance.
  22. Ditto on the steering wheel. Mine is an 87, and has the same factory wheel.
  23. 1987 4.0L SWB 4x4 5-speed manual I've read through threads on front turn signal problems. My rear turn signals work, both for regular turn and flasher. However, the front parking lamps (not corner lamps) will not burn, and the corner lamps burn when headlights are on, but will not blink for turn signal or flasher. I've checked the bulbs and fuses. I know I need to check the ground, but how is this done? Thanks in advance.
