Pete M Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 what do you guys think about rough country lift kits i and thinking about buying the 6.5 kit for my MJ and need some feed back Got a link to it?
comanche13 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 http://www.roughcountry.com/Jeep_MJ_6in.htm when you go to there site at first they don't even spell comanche right they spell it commanche
S.S.O. Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 i need the kit for mud to get it higher not going to rock crawl or trail ride to much or at all with it
comanche13 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 i guess if your not going to do anything buy mud it and don't care about ride quality it be the best
Pete M Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 The kit in the link is at least reasonably complete. I give it 3 out of 4 thumbs up.   I'd also get some new YJ front brake lines and a 95 Dakota rear brake line and use this opportunity to eliminate the rear prop valve. Don't bother with the t-case drop, but you will need a slightly longer rear driveshaft. If your truck is an 4.0/auto, you can get an extra inch of driveshaft length with a 4.0/5-spd rear driveshaft (if you can find one). Or get your driveshaft re-tubed to the proper length or find a longer one and get it cut down. Building for mud is not too dissimilar from trail or rock building. You still need most all the same components.
MrSimon Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 That looks like a pretty nice kit ... and the price is decent. You should also consider control arm drop brackets. 6.5" of lift with short arms (even if they are adjustable) is gonna make for some really crappy angles.
mvusse Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I usually object to control arm drop brackets, because they are great at catching rocks and getting hit on steep break overs. If this is going to be purely a mud truck, that won't be an issue, though. But not absolutely necessary if you don't want to spend the extra money.
S.S.O. Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 yes i was going to get the control arm drop brackets and the kit does come with adjustable upper and lower control arms
BLHTAZ Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I would recommend the Nitro Shock upgrade on it, and you do not need the pitman arm that they include. Other than that, I agree with Pete...for a mud truck, it seems to be a good choice  .

Thats a misconception by alot of people...i have used drop brackets on my MJ for a while now and have never once caught them on a rock...they were also on my first cherokee for 3 years and never hung them up...
mvusse Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Out of 11 people I watched take the same track through the rock garden at JeepSkool I did, 2 were Cherokees with drop brackets. They both hit one of the drop brackets, and one got pretty badly mangled by a rock. Mind you, I messed up the back edge of my front fender on the same rock. Misconception my butt.
reson46 Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 The benefits far outweigh the drawbacks of drop brackets. Yes, they hang lower. So what? I've drug my RE brackets across multiple rocks. It will take a pretty hard hit to do much more than scratch the paint on them. Willy
