thats the plan.. I'm hoping he takes around 400. I'm thinking hes gonna want like a grand.

its a 2wd 4.0 auto and completely rust free plus it runs so they say . alot of people are saying he won't sell it because he can part it for more

Assuming you get a title with it, and that you can make all the stuff work. Sometimes youll get a salvage title, but you can still drive on that in most states I think. If it is as good as you say it is the JY owner may have kept the title aside and not sent it to the state as a salvage vehicle. Let us know what happens...I'm interested. Good luck!

Out of all the junkyard cars I have tried to buy in Florida I have only been able to buy one. :fs1: Only because I worked for a car dealer,in Florida salvage yards are licensed as auto dealers. That means they have to abide by all state regulations pertaining to the sale of a used car. THEY have to collect sales tax, transfer title, abide by federal buyers guide laws, emission equipment laws and etc. :headpop: When I bought this car the title was transferred to the dealer I worked for and we processed the paperwork as if we bought it at an auto auction. He can't legally hand you a title and take your money, its been that way in Florida for at least 35 years I know of. Good Luck BTW Florida no longer issues Salvage titles just Certificates Of Destruction if the truck has one of those its all over.

I see from the orignal post you are in Florida. Florida recently enacted a law saying that motor vehicles can't exchange hands without a proper title, bill of sale won't work. Hell you can't even junk a car without a title or certificate of destruction. Unless you cut it into very small pieces.

So in other words, you're saying that the guy at the junkyard should have a title for it? :brows:

It depends on WHEN he got it and HOW he got it.If he got it and can prove he got it before the law changed no problem. If he got it after this his only legal option may be to turn it into scrap (Crush it). DMV makes the rules down here and they change every time you turn around. His best hope is the junkyard has an open title and is willing to jump thru all the hoops it takes to transfer it, unless you have a good relationship with the guy it probably won't happen. Remember you are dealing with a CAR DEALER.

In Wisconsin a junkyard without a dealer resale license has to send in the title as salvage within 30 days of recieving it and can sell it but it can never be titled again.

If they have a dealer resale license they still have to send the title in but can repair the car and sell it with a salvage title after it passes a tough State Patrol inspection. The must provide vin numbers and reciepts for all the parts that were used on the car. The car must be hauled to a vehicle inspection location(not driven). After that they will issue a salvage title so it can be resold.

Maybe I didnt make myself clear all states have different regs, in Florida to be a LEGAL salvage yard you HAVE to have a MVI number(dealers license). One of my functions where I work is buying cars and paperwork involving out of states is totally different. I really hope he can save another MJ, however finding one in a salvage yard in Florida is a tough row to hoe.

My understanding that florida in that to run a salvage yard and to legally dispose of automobiles you have to have a dealers license. Unlesss you run a chop shop. :D Metal recyclers have to process all cars and turn in the titles to DMV.These laws were inacted to curb the rampant amount of car thefts, chop shops and illegal exportation of stolen cars.Floridas laws are some of the most strict in the U.S.Its so bad here I won't buy a parts car for any amount of money without a title, the remains are too hard to dispose of.

  • 4 weeks later...
Report him to Florida DMV, he can't even think about selling you the car without a title. If he does his license is s#!++.

The yard owner stated his price and conditions (no title or tranny), the customer walked! What's to report?

People complaining to the state over stuff like this is why we end up with laws that make no sense!

In this case, capitalism worked, let it be.
