Pete M Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Are the 2.5L starters like 4.0L starters or like 2.8L starters?
Cabz Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I don't know about 2.8 starters, but the 4.0 starters bolt in from front to rear through the BH and the 2.5's have 2 bolts straight up like a SBC.
Pete M Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 Which ones aren't interchangeable? All of them?
DirtyComanche Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I'd guess all. I mean, the 2.8 is a chevy V6. The 2.5 is a I4 thingo that's been around a while. And the 4.0 is an I6 designed (basically) by AMC back in what, '62?
Pete M Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 The 2.5L shares transmissions with the 2.8L, which is why I would guess they would share starters, but I don't own a 2.5L, so I can't check (the question was posed to me by another owner).
jage Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 No the 2.8L starter is different than the 2.5 L - they're not even similar. I have a nice 2.8L starter if anyone wants it! I also have a starter off a 4.0L if anyone wants that.
mjeff87 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 X3 each is a different one  I'm still trying to figure out why they put the 2.5 oil filter DIRECTLY ABOVE the starter/solenoid. There's no way to avoid dumping oil on it every time you do an oil change. :headpop: :headpop: :headpop: Jeff
XJs4Ever Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 I'm the enquiring mind who wants to know. I will drop the one from my 2.5 and see if I can swap the actual motor/solenoid from the 4.0 to the 2.5 and if not then its back to the boneyard with a core. they just didn't have any 2.5s out there so I grabbed a 4.0 for $15. it was worth the try. rj
mjeff87 Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 RIIIIIICCCCKKKKK!!!!! Where ya been, buddy??? Jeff
