Distributor timing. PLZ GAWD HELP!!
XJs4Ever replied to XJs4Ever's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Guys, please listen for a sec. Yes some good points have been raised but listen to this... It ran just fine before I moved it one tooth on the dist shaft. My fuel pressure is fine, the timing chain is fine, the crank sensor, cam sensor, distributer, rail, pump etc etc etc etc is all FINE. And anyone who can't hook up plug wires correctly shouldn't even be under a hood - period. I guess most of you don't know me but trust me I'm a lot more savvy with Jeeps than I'm being given credit for. Next step is try to find the mark on the crank pulley, bump the starter to rotate it up to TDC and then re-stab the distributer with the rotor at cyl 1. I just had eye surgery last week and can barely see but I need to get this damn thing running so I can drive to TX and back -
What the HELL am I doing wrong?? I have spent four DAYS, I repeat DAYS disconnecting, unbolting, removing my distributer, rotating the cam gear ONE tooth, tweeking the tang on the oil pump accordingly so the shaft aligns, reinserting the distributer, and still no fire no start. I bet I've been all the way around that gear four times by now. Now before anyone starts with the crank sensor etc jazz - the cam sensor, distributer, crank sensor AND coil are all brand new. Also rotor and cap. It ran fine, but was cutting out or backfiring out the front under a load so I thought I'd pull the distributer and rotate the gear one tooth, which I did and I marked its position. It ran but barely. I pulled it again and rotated the gear backwards two teeth, which SHOULD have put the timing one tooth in the opposite direction. It wouldn't even fire and has not ran since. A week now!!!! I have used a compression tester to find TDC on cyl 1, aligned the distributor with the rotor at cyl 1, but no joy. Dammit I can't even have a shop look at it without paying a fortune in a tow charge. Theres something I'm missing. WTF IZZIT?!! Anyone want to make a c-note the easy way? Come out to Parker and I'll supply that plus steak n ale. I'm done with the frustration of this clusterf#@& xjs4ever@gmail.com

O'Reillys did exchange the crank sensor due to it had a one year warranty, and I grabbed a re-man distributor just for the cam sensor. I'll return the coil and comp back forty bucks for it to soften the blow on this clusterfluck. My only concern now is getting the distributor stabbed correctly and without timing issues. My health has taken some serious hits lately and without going into detail, I need to chill till tomorrow before crawling under that dang thing again. I will post an update when it's resolved

Yea, Cins 95 ZJ is a dream to replace the cam sensor. Pop off the cap n rotor and there it is. Mines a pain in the arse

Huuuuhhh???!!! Cruiser whaaaaat?? Who's dizzy? '91 4.0L HO, auto trans I don't have the experience to test all the sensors, and am ok with replacing 15 yr old parts even if they're good. Just wish I didn't have to spend hundreds of $$ and several days in the process

Ok, Jeep was stalling and hard to start. Replaced the fuel filter which it needed, and it was ok for a few days. Then started the same crap again. Found no spark from the coil so I replaced the crank sensor, started it and it ran for a minute and died. Has not fired since. Thought to myself "well its got the original coil" so I put a new coil in. No joy. Cannot just buy a camshaft sensor for it - gotta replace the entire distributer so I ordered one. If that's not the fix, a couple guys think I got a defective crank sensor from the parts store. I guess I can see if O'Reilly's will take it back and I'll get the next step up from Master craft. BTW - hi guys!! :waving:

XJs4Ever replied to XJs4Ever's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
ok got the decals on, but I f'd up the "ee"'s a little but will just live with it I guess. even found a 4.0 litre badge and a command trac one too. I assume that I have that and not select trac. I don't want to post pics yet as I am still fabricating a rear bumper but when its done I will start a new thread in a different list -

Got em. That Spencer seems like a decent sort. Even included a bonus one that looks like the old school Rover or Scout. I will see if I'm right. -

MJ emblems. decals and stuff for the '89 project
XJs4Ever replied to XJs4Ever's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Its probably just internet BS so I transferred $30 into my paypal account so in a couple days by the time it posts and I find the actual site I will be able to order a set and risk losing $17 or getting the decals. I'm wary cuz when I tried to e-file my tax returns - guess what? In typical RICK fashion - I find I am a victim of identity theft. SOMEONE has already filed returns under my social security number. Story of my life. :fs2: I used to laugh about it. Like 'hey, anyone wants MY life well $#!t they are WELCOME to it!' well jokes on me - someone DID take it. I also [we] did a chapter 7 bankruptcy to dismiss $84,000 of my wifes medical dept. Well none of them filed a claim so I was to get all my stuff back [money, motorcycle, guns] but my student loan - which is exempt from chapter seven - IS entitled to any monies I have. They took $30,000 from me. That was my inheritance from my moms death a few months ago. POOF! it goes to the goddam gov't. Oh did I mention I have been unemployed since last year? Nobody will hire a man close to 60 these days regardless of what he can do. When my garage burned down a few Halloweens ago, after my wife almost died from a fall, someone here said 'dang Rick & his wife can't get a break' well no $#!t here's more proof. Having a bad day?? Walk a mile in MY shoes. -

Right on guys I will order a set today. The trucks looking graet and I can't wait to post of some before-during-after shots but not til its done. Still need front flares and a rear bumper of some kind, and window tinting -
Hi fellers Got the MJ painted this month, and can only find one of the 'Comanche' emblems that go on the front fenders. Got tons of the '4x4' ones but have decided NOT to put them on. The trucks lifted like crazy with 35" tires so if anyone can't tell its a 4x4 they need therapy. I may put them on where they go near the tail lights just to be MJ correct later but not yet. I quit calling dealers for MJ parts cuz they never have anything. I recall someone could make and send the 'Jeep' decals that go on the raised letters on the tailgate, and I think at the time they were $16 a set [course that was back in the old Yahoo! Comanche group days]. I am still trying to fab up a rear bumper out of 2" pipe, and some rock sliders but can't seem to drill thru the angle iron. Its just an old bed frame and maybe 1/16" thick but its dulled 7 bits and broken one!!? :fs1: I will try to post a pic or two on a sunny day. Its gloss black now like Scotty's '91  latr doods Rick in CO

well that sux. they sure look the same to me. so I guess its jc whitney for new flares then?

A Copy Of The Parking Brake Recall?
XJs4Ever replied to XJs4Ever's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
BTW - the story to the pic is a sad one. I and two others were on a 4x4 trail here in CO and as a courteous Jeeper I had backed up off trail to let some other group pass. They screwed around in a drunken stupor for several minutes so I set the brake and went down to get them to hustle it along. Once them head-banger a-holes figured out how to put their Jap trash in gear and MOVE IT I went to get in and POP the parking brake let go. I ran along side for a good twenty feet trying to hop in to hit the brakes but CRASH it hit a tree and I collided with the drivers door and bent it forwards to the fender. No help from them just a lotta gawking and me and my group proceeded to the camp spot. I yanked what was left of the fan shroud out and bless that Jeeps little heart the radiator was intact even tho the AC was shoved up against it and the fan was hitting the fins. I repaired it myself and its on its way to becoming a show truck now but dang it all my Jeeps have taken damage like a B-17 Bomber on them trails and like those old Forts they brought me home everytime. -
A Copy Of The Parking Brake Recall?
XJs4Ever replied to XJs4Ever's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks bro. Unless I'm a daily participant like I was in the original MJ group which made me a mod there eventually, I'm nuthin more than a guest, sadly. I was a big part of that Y! list but this just aint my style. Me n Pete ran Moab and a trail here in CO back in '05 but I just don't have my nose buried into a computer these days. I know Jeeps bumper to bumper but still need some help from time to time. Glad to still see some of the original founders of the group here on Comanche Club. Rick in CO
