Spring over axle lift kit

I have been looking for a good lift kit for a good price. I will either have to- buy an add-a-leaf(i do not want this type),buy a used kit somewhere, get a chepo set, or do a SOA. How ard are these to do and where is a good place to get the perches welded on?

soa is pritty easy did mine in the drivway in about 3 hours idid't buy i kit i went to 4x4 shop and got spring perches u bolts centering bolts and shock mountd any body that knows how to weld can weld it or u can get ones that don't need welded check motion offroad i think thay have them he is a member here

As I recall from the other thread, you were looking at doing only about a 4" kit. If you go SOA you are going to get 5"-6" lift in the rear so you will need a 6"-6.5" lift in the front to keep it level and that is going to require A LOT more money in a complex kit unless you want your front end to be 3" lower than the rear... :ack: ;)

well actually I figured I would put a 3-4 inch lift and then would decide i want hire and then deal with swapping the lift and paying more then just putting a 6 inch lift from the get go. I am thinking about the motion offroad or rocky road. anyone have either of these on their MJ?

Don't pull a leaf. It'll induce a lot of spring-wrap. If you want a 4" of lift out of SOA, the closet you can get is to buy yourself leaf packs from an Explorer, cut the eyes off the main leaf, and install the whole new pack under your current main leaf (discarding the rest of yours). The MJ main leaf must be retained because the Explorer main doesn't center the axle properly (close but not quite). If it's still too high, pull out the Explorers main leaf.

don't mean to hijack but i got a question. So you get 5-6" of lift with an SOA lift? Ive heard about 4.5. And knowing that, thats how ive been planning my lift. But if its 5-6" then i gotta re think it. I want 7.5 front and back. Since your saying 5-6", if i got 7.5" springs up front and just use the original springs out back and throw like a 1.5" shackle on it would that work?

Most people supposedly get 6-6.5". Some as much as 8. With sagging springs you might get 4.5" over stock height, but that would still be 6-6.5" over what you had before the lift. If you will be using the same springs you have now, place one of the perches you will be using on top of the axle, beside the U bolts, then measure from the top of that perch to the bottom of the spring pack (bottom side of overload spring). The actual amount of lift above where the truck is sitting now is affected by the thickness of your spring pack, the diameter of the axle tubes and the spring perches you will be using.
