Gauge Cluster Swap?

Recommended Posts

My 88 MJ I just bought has that big fuel gauge on the left and the dumby lights. Years ago I had a 88 XJ it had a gauge cluster with the Tach and gauges instead of dumby lights. If I get my hands on a pre-HO gauge cluster with the tach will it plug right up? Would I have to change sending units for the gauges to all work?

I had to change my temp sending unit and oil pressure sending unit

not expensive at all

but keep in mind i think some pre HO year gauges were not all compatible so be sure to check some of the topics that have covered it

my gauges are part digital with the speedo cable attached manual

I did this swap a few weeks ago. It bolts right in if you have a floor shifted truck. Mine is a column shift auto so I needed to cut an opening in the tach face to mount the PRNDL. Careful measurement and it looks factory. As far as I know there were no column shift gauge clusters. Make sure you get the water temp.and oil pressure senders out of the donor vehicle and you get the cluster from an earlier model vehicle as later models had electronic speedos.
