CEThomas
Anyone got a Libby with the V6?? If so what MPG do you get. I know what the Diesel gets, but would like to know about the v6 as you can find more of them in our area. We are starting to think about a replacement for the ZJ and want something better then 16.8mpg :ack: The wife was in a Honda CR-V over the weekend and liked it, but is willing to look at a Libby. The Honda is doing 25-26mpg so I need to be at that or better :dunno:
JeepcoMJ
libby is worse than that. got a friend with one, he gets between 15 and 21 depending on how much he's on the skinny pedal. that includes highway mpg.
Boilermaker
my 2005 V6, stock sized tires, auto trans and 4x2....70% highway/30% other ~ 21mpg The Honda is doing 25-26mpg so I need to be at that or better I hate to push anyone toward a CR-V, but there's no way you are going to reach that in a KJ. I've done as well as 26mpg on the highway, but i've got the Mopar/Borla cat back exhaust, a flashed PCM and a couple of other mods.
JohnQ
I had a 2004 KJ 4x4 and got around 15 mpg. I now have a 2007 KJ 4x4 and I only get around 16 mpg.
CEThomas
That is BAD  We get 16.8 in the ZJ with the 318 and out on the highway we have got up to 21mpg :D Looks like we will keep the ZJ for a couple more years or I will have to give in on the Honda as I cannot give her any real reasion why we should not buy it :dunno: Anyone know what the Ford Escape makes :hmm:
Pete M
Have you done the math yet to see when the payments on this new vehicle will be surpassed by the mpg savings? It's typically hard to beat "paid for" for bottom line cost savings. And for what it's worth, my 10 year old 209k mile Chrysler minivan with the 3.3 engine gives me a reliable 24+ mpg highway and will do so hauling way more than a CRV ever could.. :D

CEThomas
Yes, we have done the math and MPG is not the only item in the mix. Even though the ZJ looks as good as the day it drove off the show room it's a 95 that is getting close to 190,000 miles. We replaced the POS trans that Chrysler put in the V8's last year and I got this bad feeling that this trans will need replaced with-in the next year along with some other items:doh: Kind of hard to put in a new / rebuilt trans that will cost more then that the KBB is one it :dunno: and cannot keep putting in a used trans at $600 every year not knowing how long it will last. Yes, we had a Dodge minivan  but with where we live you need a 4x4 to get around in the winter as they do not do much to the roads :wall: and this year is even worse :huh???: I should have kept the plow for the MJ and started plowing the roads in my area as the county no longer doing road clearing :grrrr:
Pete M
I used to go play in the snow in my 97 minivan. Maybe you need better tires? :D But seriously, I totally understand the love of 4wd. Just be sure to weigh in the fact that the Libby is a rear wheel drive rig with a 5k towing capability and the CRV/Escape are just tall cars. I've flat-towed my MJ with the Libby (albeit a CRD). My friend's Escape can't get out of it's own way. Wow Pete, I've never seen a chrysler minivan make it past 150k. And in the rust-belt no less. :D It's been in the family since new. And it has the 3.3L, which apparently is a god-send. I've heard some great odo stories from people with the 3.3. Not-so-much from people with the 3.8. :dunno: This engine is doing so well that I would not hesitate to swap it over to a new van and keep on going (should rust or an accident steal my baby from me). Sir Sam
liberty crds can be had for a little more than 10k these days. Near new grand Cherokee crds can be had for mid 20's these days. How doe that compare to the crvs you are looking at?
mvusse
Wow Pete, I've never seen a chrysler minivan make it past 150k. I have known two Chrysler minivans, both of which went over 200k. But they both also went through a transmission every 60 or 70k.
garmj
I have a 2004 Dakota with the same 3.7 V6 that the Liberty has I get 16 in town and 21 Hwy,32 k and zero problems.

Our 89 was good in snow, put 130,000+ on it  . But with the drifts and hills in our area it just needs more if you get stopped on a hill. If we were in flat county and did not have drifting problems we would go with the van :D She drove the van for 10yrs, and after we got her a 4x4 and did not get stuck on a hill anymore, she will not go back :D This is the wifes vehicle, we have not used ZJ to tow with yet, that is what my pickup is for :D So just needs something to get around in

How doe that compare to the crvs you are looking at? CRD's are not big in this area, and when one comes around it brings top $$$ and goes fast. Last crd I seen in the area was 5yrs old and going for $12,300 and had around 120,000 miles on it. New 09 CRV can be had for 22,800. Have looked at some on line, but the last time I flew to FL and got a car we had a lot of problems with it, so that is out ;)

KJ CRDs were only sold in 2005 and 2006. CRDs are not big in any area, simply because of the numbers sold. It's a great little setup, but if you want one you need to be willing to drive a day to get it. Check ebay, they usually go pretty cheap there. I saw several Brand new 07 WK CRDs in michigan(like a days drive for you) that were selling for 22-23k. They were old inventory that was finally being sold off. Those were some sweet deals. Everything is a bit beefier and stronger in the Libby. I just looked up the 06 models and this is what I found for rated mpgs: 4wd 4banger CRV - 20/25 4wd 4banger Escape - 18/22 4wd 6cyl Escape - 17/21 4wd 6cyl Libby - 15/20 Hands-down I'd want the V6 Libby out of that group. Thanks, I know the Libby is more vehicle  That is why we have 3 Jeeps parked in the drive :D , but a benchmark of 25 mpg is what we want. I know gas is back down to $1.95 but at some point it's going to go back up :ack: and with a 60 mile round trip to work 20 vs 25 mpg starts to make a big difference when you start to fill up the tank. And with the talk of pay cuts, I am sure the gas will go back up faster then my pay

Pete M
You'd save more money buying a decent 4.0 ZJ or XJ for a couple grand and putting the rest towards gas. Real world mpg in my CRD libby is 25-32 highway. Oh, and you can't pay me to buy a vehicle that has thus far spent its life in the rust belt. :ack: People up here don't wash their cars enough, especially if it was a lease. :( It's really quite depressing. CEThomas
You have no ideal how many times I have thought about swaping the engine and trans out for a 4.0 and AW4 in the ZJ we have :D Like I said in another post. It looks like the day it drove off the lot, except for all the white salt on the black pant today :shake: And out of all the vehicles we have owned in the past 30 yrs the ZJ is the one vehicle we both love, Maybe we may just look for little newer ZJ with a 4.0  Thanks guys, you have for the most part talked me out of a new vehicle  Well I do want to replace my truck  but only to get an auto in it so my wife and daughter can drive it when they need to  To bad Ford did not make it as easy to switch from a 5 speed to auto as you can in a Jeep

CEThomas
Me thinks I would need a second job to pay for all the new clutch parts I would need :D After 26 yrs I have given up on the one, and the other one cannot walk and chew gum at the same time
