UNL1MTD
I picked up a set of MJ bucket seat sliders from mjeff87 over the Holidays and now I'm looking for some seats to put on them. I know that the ideal candidates for the swap are 2 door xj front seats because they fold forward. Will any year 2 door xj seats bolt up to the Mj sliders? Also if no 2 door xjs are in the yard would 4 door buckets be good enough, with just the added headache of hard to reach behind the seat cargo area? Will a center console from a auto work for my MJ with a manual? Are there any differences to center consoles over the years that I should be looking out for? Thanks, Sean

Thanks, Sean If I am not mistaken, 90 XJ and down use the same floor brackets whether a 4 door or not. Any center console will work up to 96. You just need need to pull the gear pattern out for the auto and clip the shifter boot in. Unless it is a MJ console it will have the hole in it for the parking brake handle. Make sure you get the rear floor mount out of the donor XJ to bolt the console in.

Make sure you get the rear floor mount out of the donor XJ to bolt the console in. 1984 to 1994 used the same bracketry, though xj brackets are different than MJ ones...you have to put the bench seat pedistals on the bucket seat sliders. it requires minimal drilling on some spot welds and rivets, and a bit of welding (or several grade 8 bolts) to hold it together. center consoles are fully interchangeable, just grab the middle and rear bracketry. however, you will have a slot in the black center insert from the xj e-brake handle. IIRC there was someone on here who said you could still order the MJ insert online. 4dr buckets mount the same, the only difference is that the inner framework doesn't have hinges or a latch...you can actually swap cloth between the seats, so long as they're the same styles. you can use 4dr buckets easily...I did on the 3800 for a couple years and had no problems, simply found black 2dr buckets (thanks to mfpdm) and interior. the 4dr buckets weren't hard to deal with, you can slide them forward to get stuff back there too. make sure you grab the female ends of the seatbelts as well...they are different. I have MJ bucket seat sliders. So you are saying that only MJ buckets will bolt onto the MJ Bucket seat sliders? And any year XJ seat will have to stay attached to its XJ slider and remounted as described above? Thats a bummer, I would have hoped the xj seats would be interchangeable to the MJ Bucket Seat sliders. make sure you grab the female ends of the seatbelts as well...they are different. Is the difference just there length making it easier to buckle in? I imagine that my bench ones would work just be a PIA, is that wrong to assume? Is the difference just there length making it easier to buckle in? I imagine that my bench ones would work just be a PIA, is that wrong to assume? no, the difference is actually that the xj female ends are encased in plastic to remain rigid and stay up where you can easily plug into them. you could use the bench ones, but you'll spend half the time fishing for them because they fell down between the seats and center console. btw I had light blue 4dr buckets and center console in the 3800 prior to the interior upgrade, all bolt-in other than having to build brackets (I wanted the seats higher and to have the swivel bucket option)

JeepcoMJ
makes sense with the seatbelts, thanks for the info you're welcome. now go get the seats :brows: (oh, i think you can fit the seat belts inside of the center console btw... )
mjeff87
FWIW Sean, I'm still using the MJ bench seatbelts with the XJ buckets on mine (I forgot to grab the 'belts from the XJ I got the buckets from, and they are black.....next to impossible to find that color). I have the ends secured to the seat bottoms with mini-bungee cords (black as well). Not an ideal setup, but it works  I thought you already had the seats for yours and just needed the brackets??? What color seats are you looking for? If I find a good set down here in the 'yards, I'll pull 'em for ya. I can tell you from personal experience that 4-dr buckets are as much of a PITA as people say they are.....I'd hold out for the folding 2-dr ones if I were you. garmj
Just did this swap from a 4 door 90 xj to a 90 mj.Drilled the pedastals from the bench and installed them on the buckets,no big deal.Console will install easy just get the xj floor brackets, the floor already has dimples where these brackets go. Just transfer your shifter boot orbezel to the console and you are all set. Good Luck

I'm looking for seats that are based off a black interior, so either full black, or black base with the white checker pattern like you have. I'm going to wide water auto parts in Stafford on Saturday if the weather is good and hopefully I will get lucky and find a set. If I find a nice set of 2 door seats in good condition I might just pull them regardless of color and buy some covers for them, but thats not an ideal option. mjeff87
AMC-era black interiors are hard to come by, at least down here anyway....good luck. I looked for over a year in my 'yards down here and finally came across a 4dr XJ (non-folding) with the buckets I have now. Hopefully you'll have better luck than me  Jeff

I was broken when I saw the dash was all cracked, all the seats were ripped, and hardly any plastics in any kind of decent shape. :(
mvusse
My Comanche has all black interior. The black vinyl seats need to be redone, though.
