SuperWade2 Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 Front Wheels Off, Up on Stands.. How do keep the Front Axle from Spinning? Lame I know... SW2
mjeff87 Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 4LO, put the e-brake on.....or not, if the rear isn't off the ground.
SuperWade2 Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 4LO, put the e-brake on.....or not, if the rear isn't off the ground. Ummm... Either I can't get into 4 Lo (which is one issue I'm working on) or my TJ (which I'm acutally working on) is different...
SuperWade2 Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 Have someone sit inside and apply the brakes? Home Alone...
SuperWade2 Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 what are trying to do? Removing Wheel Spacers, Removing Calipers, Taking Axle shafts out, Removing Knuckes, Replacing Ball Joints, Preparing for new Calipers, removing and reinstalling entire front Currie Steering since I don't think it was installed right the first time. Will probably take Springs Out, fix Bumpstops which I have it apart... Replacing 231 T-case shifter with Novak Kit
Pete M Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 I've been known to shove a 2x4 of the proper length between the brake pedal and the seat. :shake: Not sure if you want to do that. Another plan would be to take a long screwdriver and stick in down through the axle shaft yoke by the U-joint.
BLHTAZ Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 Air tools would be a BIG help in this situation, but the screw driver or pry bar through the u-joint is a good one.

mvusse Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 If you're working on your TJ (automatic?), 4lo and transmission in P. But I guess the 2x4 is working for you now.
Pete M Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 You guys are forgetting that not everyone has a front minispool like me. :D Even in 4lo, as he wrenches on one side, the other side will simply spin the other way. Both front tires are up off the ground.

SuperWade2 Posted December 7, 2008 Author Posted December 7, 2008 ...and a few minutes later... 1/2 done...New ball joints will be done once FLA finishes off the Tide...sorry guys...
aemsee Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Hey SW, what is that outer shaft seal you have there?
SuperWade2 Posted December 7, 2008 Author Posted December 7, 2008 Hey SW, what is that outer shaft seal you have there? AlloyUSA Tube Seals http://www.4x4xplor.com/alloyusa-axleseals.html I don't do that much mud and stuff, but while I had everything apart last year to do the new Axle's and stuff I had em tossed on... Should have gone in to work this morning for a few hours, but decided to, well, screw it. I would have been the only one there as everyone else is hunting.
