213-4524D Napa part number for a lifetime warranty unit. IIRC, its the 105 amp model.

Cost $120, three years ago.

The 160 amp unit should work electrically, AFIK a higher amp rating just allows you to pull more - compressor, winch, a/c etc. You only pull what the regulator allows, anything else is extra potential.

At the same price I'd go with the higher amp.

If you're concerned about mechanical fit have the guy put them both up on the counter. If the computer says it fits I usually trust 'em, but I only have a 10 min drive so you might want to be more careful.

It's pretty random what they got. But, AFIK, 160amp alternators were NOT avaliable stock.

However, you can use one. If I could get my hands on one cheap, I sure as hell would.

Pretty much all MJ/XJ's all came with the 105amp. I have never heard of a 160 amp one being available. If it does fit give me the part number, I wil add one to my rig

IIRC, the 160 amp was 'available' but on police/fleet models. My ex-State of Montana XJ had one originally.

we put a 160 in my brothers 90 XJ 4.0 works fine.

i say go for it... with his red top and 160 alternator he can run basically whatever he wants
