  1. Replacing my tank (23.5). Looking on the internet I see prices from $89 up to $280. Anyone have any brands that have worked for you or brands to avoid? Mainly worried about rust. Also, already pulled the old tank, had to cut the Fuel Tank Filler Vent hose. Crown says that their Cherokee Vent hose (52000623) fits the Comanche - pics don't appear the same - anyone have experience with this or can recommend a substitute? Bent up one of the hanger bolts (connects strap to the frame) - is this a standard part or unique to our trucks? Any tips for reinstalling? The only complicated part I foresee is the fuel filler and vent hoses - assume they should be assembled to the tank first and then connected to the fill neck during install?
  2. The hardest part for me was finding the hog rings and hog ring pliers. Probably went to every hardware, hobby, fabric and auto parts store in the area. Harbor Freight has them The bench seat reassembly effort is nothing like the bucket seat, cover goes on much easier. My drivers side seat cushion was not supportive, the foam was surprisingly ok, one of the springs was busted, slid some cardboard between the springs and the foam and it was like new, still is 2 years later.
  3. Had the same thing on mine. Took it to a body shop, they fixed it and repainted the pillar. Might be normal wear and tear. Mine was the result of door sag due to worn hinge pins - thought it was the new door seals that I installed so I just slammed the crap out of it for a while but eventually figured out the door was sagging and that the latch wasn't lined up with the striker. Cracked the B pillar and ended up having to replace the latch too.
  4. The body molding on the MJ above - is that stock or can you buy that in a roll somewhere...anyone know?
  5. Chronological order: 98 XJ 4 door 4.0 4x4 12 WK Laredo 4x4 V6 91 MJ LWB 4x4 4.0 AW4
  6. I had the ones in the lower left of Fiatslugs pic. If those are what you have, then you already have the hardware in your door for the mirrors in the upper left. And you can re-use the interior triangle trim pieces if you use a manual mirror. I bought the manual folding mirrors off the internet (AM-Autoparts), cheap Chinese crap, they work fine but car washes will b*@$£ slap them off your doors (my drivers mirror is glued on, the spring mechanism that allows the mirror body to rotate is weak and should not be tested.) I'd recommend fixed (non-folding/rotating) manual mirrors if they are offered.
  7. Talked to a guy at work who has a lot of cars from the 50's, said he's never seen one go bad and the only thing that could go wrong is if you get corrosion inside. Talking with another guy we both agreed that I'd rather have a used OEM booster than a new Chinese one. So, junkyard it is, Friday afternoon - thanks for the feedback. Will let you know how it goes
  8. I'm not opposed to junkyard parts, I guess the better question may have been: Whats the average life span of a brake booster? Thats a good point johnj. The booster in my MJ seems to be in good condition, just underpowered. Cruiser, those are great points, will have to look into the WJ swap
  9. Planning on doing the 96XJ brake booster upgrade. 1996 model year is getting old (19-20 yrs), anybody have feedback on whether used parts from the junkyard could still be reliable or should I just buy new/reman? 1991 MJ Base 4.0 AW4 30/35 on 31's. Daily driver, plan to keep it as long as the Michigan winters let me, no off-roading yet
  10. Hornbrod. Yep you're right, the site I was using only showed the large box and 5 envelopes, wasn't obvious but have to scroll to see more options. Crassis, Go ahead and deal with Jenssen. Will save me the hassle of getting to the post office.
  11. The USPS shipping calculator said a 10oz package would ship between $40 and 70. Flat rate box was $65.
  12. Not sure where in Alberta you are but shipping is a bit much. From Detroit to Calgary is between $40 and $70 USPS. Lets say I want $30 for the part and you're looking at $70-100 shipped. PM if you're interested.
  13. Crassis - I've got one of these. The switches are a little faded. I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them up and figure out a price to throw at you.
  14. Yellaheep - is that an old picture or do you really have snow on the ground?!?
  15. What kind of rear suspension are you running? Overload springs? Timbrens? Air Bags? If that was my MJ the bumper would be dragging
  16. Stroker & Hornbrod - thanks again for the info. BootsNTrucks - sorry for the HiJack
  17. Makes sense, thanks for the reply!
  18. Hornbrod - did you relocate your antenna? and are you running just one wiper? Also - anyone know where you can get those side window visors? Everyone else, be careful if you buy those Chinese mirrors and antenna's - the car washes aren't shy about ripping em off
  19. Downey Products makes them for the MJ. American made out of New York.
  20. http://toledo.craigslist.org/cto/4888744247.html They list one and only one feature and.... :hmm:
  21. I thought Bama's punter was their MVP. He'll get drafted based on that game alone

  23. Thats a great reply Randy, thanks. I did swap out the speedo gear per the PATC calculator, that should have compensated for the taller tires. Noticed on the trip that my GPS and speedometer aren't in agreement. Maybe I'll pop the old gear back in and see if its more coordinated with the gps. I'm thinking now that the higher mileage was a result of lower average speeds for those tanks (65 instead of 75). Hope you guys had a great Christmas
  24. Same tires throughout the trip. You get 21 with a 4.0? Stick or auto?
  25. Took the MJ on a road trip from the Detroit area to South Dakota's Black Hills and back. 2970 miles total. Left last Wednesday and got back late Monday night. Truck was great, had no problems and was surprisingly comfortable. Typical speeds of 75mph using 87 octane, averaged 16.2mpg for the whole trip. Counterintuitively, the few times I had to buy gas with ethanol (87 with 10% and 88 with 10%) my mileage actually rose to 17.7 and 17.2!?! I'll have to go back and try to figure out if there were other differences (terrain, speed, ...) but until then what are your experiences with ethanol gas? Truck is 4.0L, AW4, 3.55, D35, D30, 3" lift, 31" All-Terrains.
