  1. I just picked up a set of tube bumpers for my Manche. They were very inexpensive, and appear very solid, with good mounting plates, but well used on the surface. The front came with a winch (of unknown condition) and the rear has a hitch receiver. Did I mention that they were cheap-o? I want to re-coat them, but due to the anticipated cost am not intending to sand blast/powder coat (cheap-o, remember?). What I'm thinking is to rough sand them, and then rattle can with something. Any recommendations? POR15, or some other sort of matte black paint/coating? Cosmetics are not real high on the list, but I feel that I should do something (cheap-o).
  2. Doesn't the polarity reverse when you're in the Southern Hemisphere? It's a cultural thing! :brows:
  3. Cool! We have some pretty good brew-pubs down here.
  4. Thanks. Two degrees or so is just about what I'm looking for, so that gives me something to shoot for.
  5. Well, we've got Anza Borrego east of here: But I use my MJ as a BajaBeater to support my pit crew work for SCORE. That's why I have a camper on it, and don't do anything too wild.
  6. The LCAs were changed, but not adjustable. I'm planning on making the shims (unless the right ones fall into my lap), but I'm not sure about the thickness. Seems like 1/4" might be right, but I hope to get it right the first time. BTW the caster on both wheels is identical, so that part should be simple.
  7. I had a bit of wobble/vagueness that I cured with a simple toe-in adjustment. When the DPO installed the 4" lift, he didn't bother to readjust steering center, toe, caster, or anything as near as I can tell (though he did install an adjustable JKS track bar so he did do the axle). So I've done steering center adjust as well. I'm putting some new 31x10.5x15 ProComps on, then I need to find some shims for the LCAs (3.5 degrees caster, and I want to get closer to spec.), and go back through all the adjustments. Anyone know how thick of a shim I need to bring the caster back to adjustment? BTW shouldn't this be in Tech forum?
  8. 296K on my (presumably original) BA10. A bit notchy, but not noisy. Can I borrow the wood when you're done? :brows:
  9. Yeah, but not very user friendly. Why should I allow them to spam me, just to find out if they are competitive?
  10. Tried the LTL companies, and all quotes were higher than FedEx. Thanks
  11. Tried, but DHL.com won't give me a quote unless I register/create an account. FedEx Ground is the cheapest for far, for a package ~20x20x60 and weighing 130#. They quote ~$125.
  12. Thanks. I'm looking into a couple of companies that would ship to a warehouse, to avoid the home delivery fee.
  13. I just won a couple of MJ bumpers (weighing 80-100#, front including a winch) on fleaBay, and the original shipping estimate (~ $80) was reasonable (as we assumed that combined shipping wouldn't double the price). Now the seller has gotten a UPS quote, and it's almost $200 from MI to CA. Is that reasonable? Anyone have any ideas for a lower cost option? Thanks.
  14. What do you want it to do? I have about five different GPS systems, each intended to address different needs. Unless you know what you need, no one can help you. Unless you just want to throw a lot of money at it.
  15. Thanks Cole! Now, the question is, is there a reason I need to know? Other than adding the proper additive when I changed fluids, would I do anything different? Data point: My rig has 300k miles on it, so wouldn't things be pretty worn out anyway?
  16. My 87 Pioneer also has a Dana 44. How would I tell if it has the Trak-Lok?

    Chutzpah!

That reminds me of when I was in college, and helped a friend move his 35' trailer using my Dodge D100. A lot of clutch slipping, and a bit squirrelly on the freeway, but we gott'er done!
  18. This is probably cheating, but when I first got my MJ I had the coolant replaced, and they used a pressure flush/replacement machine. No worries.
  19. That's what I was thinking. A lot of truckstops have scales, & if you're not in the big city, check with a grain company. Anyone that buys grain from farmers will have a scale. I took my truck & gooseneck with my TJ loaded up to our local grain company to weigh it. Needed to find out if I needed heavier licence plates on the truck. Squeeked by with 400 pounds to spare Guys, guys, guys! His location says he's on Exuma Bahamas. How many commercial truck scales do you think he has access to? :brows:
  20. If you're talking about barging it across open water, I don't think that you'd want to be anywhere near the capacity of the barge! is right!
  21. Same here. Mine "works" erratically, and is difficult to see when it does light up, so I just ignore it.
  22. Yeah, but I guess I'm saying why make more work for them. Just a moment's thought would take care of things.
  23. Cynic! :brows:
  24. Or do a lot of the threads started here in The Pub belong in other places? Out of the last 10-15 threads, most seem related to Manche tech or projects or something. The mods do a great job of bird dogging, but why make their lives more difficult?
  25. Thanks for the link. The poster was using the XJ factory sliders (as it appears that the Baja SS seats do not have them). So I'm thinking that I can simplify things a bit by eliminating the factory MJ sliders, and simply fabbing a way to attach the Corbeau sliders to the MJ floor brackets. But it wouldn't appear to matter whether I used angle or a flat plate, would it?
