Thanks! I suspected it was something like that. I doubt my truck has the special tool, but if a long screwdriver won't work, I'll fab something.

Appreciate the response. As a n00b, I'm always a bit reluctant to pester with questions that have been done to death, but aren't readily answered with a search. It's nice to know that the personal touch is still preferred. BTW what magic trick is there in releasing the spare tire?

My 87 Pioneer has no decals (repaint), but it has a "Comanche Pioneer" badge on the front fender, and the "4X4" badge is back near the tailgate. Yearly variations?

Another site I frequent (for motorcycles) has a chronological list of similarities and differences in the major systems (e.g. available engines, trans, body changes, etc.) for the entire run of the model that is posted as a FAQ. Is there such a post or thread here on CCC? If not, it would probably be a good resource, as a number of my n00b questions (as I search for spares and the like) relate to how the MJ (and XJ) differs from year to year, and whether a particular piece would fit (e.g. will a radiator from a 1992 XJ fit a 1987 MJ?). If the info is available somewhere, but isn't organized, lead me to it and I'll volunteer to assemble it for the site. BTW that other site has a dedicated FAQ mod, who combs through the post periodically and assembles recurrent thread topics and replies into a FAQ thread. It's a bit of work, but saves having the same topic arise ad infinitum/ad nauseum. Thanks.

Bucket Seats Redux
summerinmaine replied to summerinmaine's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated. I'm going to try to hit the Yonkes this weekend, and wanted to be informed. -
Searched, but did not find an answer. Does anyone know the year range for simple bolt-in swapping for bucket seats? I'm assuming that Comanche and Cherokee are directly interchangeable within a given year (or year range), but are the 1986-1991 models directly interchangeable with seats from any later year models? If so, how late in the post-1991 model run should I be looking at? If not direct bolt in, how much of a job to fit seats from, say, a 1992 or later Cherokee into my 1987 Comanche (one of the options I'm currently considering)? Thanks in advance.

Please don't feed the trolls!
summerinmaine replied to Eagle's topic in Forum Issues, Ideas, Testing
I had a long talk with someone knowledgeable about the financial aspects of spamming, and he cited a statistic that a spam campaign need get only one positive response out of a million contacts in order to be viable. My suggestion is we find that one person . . . and kill them. :brows: -
Bucket Seat Needed
summerinmaine replied to summerinmaine's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks to you both. I will stay in touch as I search, but I think we'll find that shipping will be a killer. Now if anyone is coming down for the Baja500 . . . :brows: -
Bucket Seat Needed
summerinmaine replied to summerinmaine's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I intend to try. Problem is, down here property is so expensive that Yonkes are a dying breed. -
The driver's side tan colored seat in my 87 MJ is pretty fubared. Anyone have any great ideas on how to find a cost-effective replacement down here in the LLC? Or should I have posted this in the want ads? TIA

It's probably not "sediment" in the normal sense of that term, but rather the remains of the yeast and various protein components. Many health food folks believe that it is quite good for you.

Unfortunately, you've just sampled a vision of the future. Gov't regs and private enterprise will make it increasingly difficult for us enthusiasts to keep our vehicles running via re-used and recycled parts. Sad but true.

I would love to meet up, especially in Oregon. I spent every summer there until I was ~15, first at my grandparents 200 acre spread 13 miles north of Deadwood on an old logging road, then on 10 acres on the Siuslaw River. Much to my regret, I haven't been back in decades. But a meet up in Oregon might not be practical for me, considering where I live now.

He "corrected" his listing to ID it as an 86.

My old Nissan Patrol had the battery under the driver's seat (though technically not "in" the cab, as there was an access panel as a cover. Whenever the voltage regulator took a crap (frequently), I would be bathed in off-gases. Not very pleasant.

Used to make it all the time years ago. I worked in a lab that had a constant temp room, so we would do our fermentations in there, then lager in an old refer. Some folks were growing shrooms in the lab as well. Not me, you understand, but some folks . . . :brows:

Is this ceramic piece important?
summerinmaine replied to JohnQ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Looks like a ballast resistor. If you want, just check the resistance across the poles, and then glue the thing back together. The ceramic shield is a heat shiled IIRC, so no critical tolerances. -
I've been through there, but usually I was out on the coast (e.g. Gold Beach), and I love to fish. Why, are you offering to host a get-together? :brows:

Accelerator Pedal Assembly
summerinmaine replied to summerinmaine's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks. So I take it that the pedal is welded or otherwise affixed to the lever rod? -
Anyone have a pic or a diagram of the assembly? My MJ came without a pedal, so I'm stepping on the bare lever rod (I've heard it called the "skinny pedal" but this is ridiculous), and there is no obvious way to attach a pedal to mine. Do I need to replace the entire lever rod with a new pedal? TIA for any advice.

My newly acquired MJ is for a very specific purpose. At last count, I own 14 vehicles (most insured at a special fleet/collector rate) so it's just liability and UM for me.

I just use a GPS for my speedo/odo. No gears/no problems. :D
