  1. Well mine is a direct swap as I swapped the complete dash and the motor will soon follow. :brows: However here is a thread Click here and a link Click here too that has a lot of good info on the swap.

    New front

Looks good. Just keep getting white replacement parts and you can have a new paint job. :D J/K Need to get you a bumper on there to protect that new front.
  3. The 242 I just got a few weeks back is 21 spline. Came out of an 87 XJ. It also has the short input. I'm putting it behind a AW4 though and that is what it came behind in the 87. However, now you have me thinking I'm going to have the same issue with the short shaft. I had to deal with this once already with the TJ when I swapped in a 241OR(short shaft) for the 231(long shaft). What a pain that was. Used a Teraflex seal extender to fix that but it won't work on the AW4 tranny.
  4. Pat that valve cover looks great. Did you blast the inside as well and what type of bead are you using? I spent most the afternoon making a blasting cabinet to do the same as well as two dozen more parts. Got to finish it up tomorrow. I hope it produces work like that.
  5. Hi Joe, No, this is the red '89, that was the blue '90. I was thinking along the same lines, replace the O2 sensor and retest or should I replace both O2 sensor and cat? I had this happen before to the '90, I checked all sensors and replaced the 02 and cat which was rattling and it passed. However the cat in this truck isn't making any noise. Is the cat's main function to reduce NO? Since I had to take it to a Smog Only test center, I can now take it to a qualified "Gold Star Center" (after approval) pay the first $100 and the State will pay up to $500 for the fix. It sounds good but I really don't like anyone working on my MJs. That's why I'm thinking of 02 sensor $50 + $50 for retesting, that's what I'd pay through the program anyway. If that didn't work cat $100, if that wasn't it go through the program. Any comments? Had the same thing happen when I lived out in San Diego. Guy told me it was either the cat or O2 sensor. My advice would be to start with the cheapest to replace. That's what I did. Change the O2 sensor and had it retested and pasted by a little margin. I was able to take mine to the base being military and the retest didn't cost me anything. Is it 20 or 25 year old cars that no longer require smog checks?
  6. Was looking at those the other day. Can't remember where but they had them for $189 + shipping. Was wondering if they would discount them a little if they left off the braces. Let us know how they do and any install problems.

    Big Problems

Don't be fooled. It's those darn metal eating termites the auto industry let loose to keep people buying new cars. On a serious note, I'm glad you found it before something bad happen.
  8. Nice work. What color is that?
  9. I think the turbines are the best wheels jeep ever put out. Have always loved the look.
  10. Do you have any of the sentry wired up or is it just in there? If Super_MJ pulls them out you ought to see if he'll send them to you. Even if you don't install them, having them, plus the dash unit, could be worth something someday. If anything an interesting conversation piece. :D
  11. I agree with you about respecting other forums, they all have there place on the web. But then you follow that statement with.... Not trying to be a "holier than thou", but isn't that statement disrespecting other forums? :dunno:
  12. That is a rare bird you have there. The first one I've ever seen. So does the front have one as well?
  13. Hhmmm. I was going to say locker until you brought that up. It does appear to be a factory looking setup. But if both axles came from the same xj, it should have one on the front as well. The sentry system monitored all fluid levels or temps. Forget which but it was only availible on waggys, I think. Besides being next to impossible to find the sentry dash piece, the actual sensors are even harder to find. Will be courious to see how this comes out. Edit: If that cover will come off, you would be able to tell real quick. If it is the sentry system, it should just be screwed into the housing.(kinda like yor temp sensors on the engine block)
  14. Other than the special decals, gold stripe down the side and olympic rings above the badge, I don't thing it really had options specific to it. I think I remember that it was just the pioneer package that was label as olympic editions though. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
  15. Nice truck. That's the first blue olympic edition I've seen.
  16. Thanks, I used dupicolor bedliner. Not the best product out there but works for what I needed. Just a little protection on top of the POR-15 to help fill in some pin holes in the pan. I'll follow up with a heavy undercoating on the underside to help insure the holes are filled and provide a sound barrier.
  17. Well, finally got off our @sses to get this thing back together. Have been collecting parts and what not for to long. POR-15'd the floorpan. Then put two coats of roll in bedliner. Use a low pile roller to keep the texture smooth and re-installed the dash foam. Rewrapped the engine wiring harness so we could pass the ones through the firewall that we needed to get the heater/ac box in and put the computer back were it belongs. Installed the 96 xj brake booster and brake pedal to avoid fighting it after the dash was in. Set the dash in place, however I managed to put a crack in the dash pad when I took it out of the donor. :headpop: It's not to bad and you can barely see it, but I know it's there. May end up finding another. Swapped the power options into the doors. Still a lot of things to swap out on the dash and hook up. Our plan now is to at least get all the interior stuff put back in, minus the carpet, seats, and console. Then work on the motor and finish up with the axles. Oh and glass will be last. That plan is subject to change as we work our way through all the parts and boxes in the garage. :brows:
  18. That particular rat's chewing days are over. :D I set a big rat trap in the battery tray. Worked really good however that side of the engine compartment looks like a scene from a horror flick. :ack:
  19. LOL, no he is a mix. A little shepard, husky, akita, with a dash of chow. All in all a 90lb eating and pooping machine. He really doesn't just chew on things. There happen to be a rat inside the engine compartment. He was just moving things out of the way to get to him. Included vacuum lines, wiring harness, etc.. :D Far as the factory fuse holder and other thing, I'll wrap them back up into the harness and be sure to go ahead and change that fuse.
  20. Thanks for the help. I had a good idea it was factory and had maybe something to do with the tranny. I also found a handfull of splices that looked like this. Yep, that's duct tape covering a form of tube with a electrically fused splice. At first I thought it was from the PO but after finding them in the harness I just got from the JY, it is factory. My dog tried to eat the original harness.
  21. Was re-wrapping the wiring harness for the MJ and found this. In line fuse holder and what appears to be maybe a diode pluged into a connector. This harness came out of a XJ, 4.0 auto 4x4. The plug with diode(if that is what it is) was wrapped into the harness. This is the harness on the passenger side and the plug in the pic is for the TCU. Any idea what these are for?
  22. MMmmmff mmmm MMmm mmmmfffffffff "POP" Sorry, I had to pull my head out first. I just lurk most of the other forums. Have only posted about 10 times total on all the forums that I'm am registered to. And yes, I had the TJ long before I found this little corner of the world. Heck if it comes down to it I realy don't even own a MJ. It's my sons. :D You know what they say, parents living through there children.
  23. Purple Power is some great stuff. Cuts the grease film most leave behind. Used it to degrease the engine bay before paint. Paint shop was amazed and said it was the cleanest they had ever recieved being that old. However it doesn't react well with somethings so test before you commit. It will remove paint.
  24. WHOLEY RUSTED METAL BATMAN!
  25. Teraflex makes a seal extender. It claims it's for yj and tj but it might work. I used one on my TJ for the 241OR. They're a little tricky but work good. I have a spare that I can get measurements off of if anyone needs them. Here's a link
