  1. I suppose. the OP does tend to show american rights pretty well...while his brother showed patriotism. I guess that's the difference IMHO. I have more respect for his brother than I do for him. I wouldn't insult someone who made the ultimate sacrafice for our country, nor make fun of someone for serving our country....but the OP just showed everything I disrespect in his first post. if you check, I did post there...and was nice for the pure fact that he switched to respectable posting.
  2. and those moderators are humble enough to handle it all, and among them are those who have much, much more jeep knowledge than the rest of the people here. along with that are those that are not humble at all, and still know just about everything that can be known about them. I gotta say that...just because someone doesn't have patience and comes off as an @$$, doesn't mean that they're not right.
  3. alright. I'm taking the opposite side. that was that posters FIRST POST in that subforum, under 24 all told, and he posts that he's too lazy to open the door panel? uh. yeah...get off the forum or get off your butt. or pay someone else to do the job for you. I can't believe no one has seen it that way. as a member of cherokeeforum...I actually try not to flame too much. "Peep" had an acceptable first post. the lazy OP had what is probably a lie of a SECOND forum post, and didn't take things for what they were. that was innocent ribbing...it got out of hand because the OP put unnecessary information in, took things offensively that weren't meant to be single-handedly offensive, and decided to have a go (as a NEW MEMBER) with someone who actually knows what they're talking about, at least on the subject. Guys, you haven't got a clue what goes on over at cherokeeforum...it is Pirate4x4 as far as flaming goes...but on CF, the flaming is because the questions that get asked are actually just stupid questions...Pirate4x4 flaming is based off of lack of knowledge, not lack of effort or even mild intelligence. Cherokeeforum is the jeepsunlimited of the XJ world...it is the leftovers of a sad breakup between friends (the owners of the site), and the one who owns cherokeeforum now got the lower-IQ children in the divorce. and yes, I'm one of the guys who flames others here on the forum. If you noticed, I did the simplest thing to keep this forum from going downhill as a result of my flaming...I stopped posting responses if it irrated me, or if it's a worthless post of a question that's being asked for the umpteenth time (example....bucket seats, proportioning valve, brake booster upgrade, lift kit opinions). I suggest that people like me adopt the same mentality...if it's dumb, don't post. some other guy who's not sick of it yet will answer the dumb questions, while the rest of us can enjoy the more personally useful parts of the forum. p.s. I am not posting this to incite an argument. if you agree with me, great. if you disagree, great. but no flaming is present in this post, nor should it be directed back.
  4. so....when is someone going to chime in that you literally can't change the fuel filter on one of these without dropping the tank? oh...right...that'd be this guy. I'm just saying...the filter on a '97+ xj is in-tank and not replaceable...have to replace the complete sending unit to get it...
  5. to elaborate. 87-90 will be 21 spline. mid 89 you *may* have a 23 spline, but ONLY if you have an Ax15 manual trans. 91 and newer are 23 spline....unless it's a 4 cylinder, in which case, it's still a 21 spline.

    231 neutral

I still say that you don't tow ANY jeep on a tow dolly. there is not one single year that says it's OK to put the tcase in neutral and tow it. in fact, they all advise against doing so, and using a dolly. flat towing in N is acceptable, however...but most of us don't flat tow our jeeps. it's just easier to avoid the hassle of even questioning the situation. I personally like not blowing up parts on newly acquired jeeps.
  7. can't really get a new one issued. make one, or forget about it...but get the xj one off of there. if they ask, you'll be fine.

    withdrawals

who am I kidding? DDing a crown vic isn't that fun....and I haven't even sat in a jeep, much less an MJ, in almost 5 weeks :fs1: time to finish the MJ...
  9. side note again...if you put the xj dash in, I hope you put the MJ's vin plate onto the XJ dash...
  10. I hope you're doing the dash wiring swap, too...won't work without that. and no, you don't need to buy a tank. remove the comanche sender, remove the xj sender, swap the pumps and figure out a way to swap the xj's fuel level sensor onto the MJ sending unit.
  11. wires B and C on the NSS connector are a black, and a black with white wire. hooking those to themselves will bypass the NSS altogether, for starting purposes.
  12. are you running the '96 xj wiring? if so, then use the '96 pump and sender mounted to the '89 sending unit.
  13. empty will mean you have more left than you think you do, and your fuel will slosh in the tank a bit, but otherwise, no.
  14. you're going 4 cyl to 4.0 correct? what year 4.0 conversion? if it's anything from 87-90, use an '87-90 pump and sending unit. anything from '91-'95 or '96, use either a H.O. 4.0 mj sender, or combine the xj sender and pump with the mj sender and pump. this topic is specific to '97 and newer swaps...so, if you're not doing that conversion, this topic is doing nothing but leading you astray. the point of this topic is not about the fuel pump, but about getting the gauge to read accurately. the gas tank without a slosh-pan is necessary if you want to put the complete '97 sender in with the aftermarket locking ring. I don't like that setup because the tank has to come down in order to swap the sender. side note....an in-line pump will work great, if there's no pump mounted on the sender in the tank. if there is a pump in the tank,it will block flow, so your in-line pump won't develop the pressure it needs. above that, your actual fuel level sensor needs to be specific to the generation of xj you're doing the swap from. otherwise your gauge will not read accurately.
  15. bought a scratch'n'dent 560pc craftsman mechanic's tool set from a sears warehouse (under $650 shipped for a $1300 set that was missing 5 1/4" 12pt sockets), a craftsman 12v cordless mini drill, a spare battery for it, and a new key lock set for my tool box, since I broke my key off in mine at work on friday, and it was my last key. also picked up a top, mid, and side box for my tool box at work...should be pretty well set up, now. otherwise, didn't do anything. no one in the family has money right now...things are tight with medical issues and bills. I bought that stuff on my sears card, which is 0% interest for a year...shouldn't take nearly that long to pay off $1000 in stuff, and it helps build credit.
  16. snow? in alabama?
  17. haven't finished her since I picked up a 47k mile crown vic for $200 that runs and drives... last night I installed the 02 sensors and '97 ecu and tcu, cleared codes by disconnecting battery overnight, took her for a spin...it no longer dies out, and all CEL's are off. cruise works, all lights work. now it gets to sit the rest of the day until I pick up the disc brake kit next weekend for the rear...
  18. but don't let Rob fool you...that flag is smaller than it looks next to her. she's tiny lol. Rob, get a pool and paint it AMC colors, so she'll sunbathe next summer...I'll come check her ou...err..help you wrench any tiime, then!
  19. Buy it...you know it's worth it, and this gives you an excuse to fix and sell the other one. More net profit, and you don't often get a chance to buy a parts vehicle that you already know pretty well...
  20. I'm excited to get the spare...
  21. strip it completely. those parts sell for good $$$
  22. it literally takes the same amount of work to replace a power vs. a manual window regulator. and power door locks fail few and far between.
  23. ya know...I'm the guy who just wants the parts. I can modify them to work....overall, i'd prefer to just be able to get something that is NOT available in the U.S., even if it's poor quality and I have to make some modifications.... Remember guys...it's YOUR choice to do this swap, not his. whoever this current alex is, reguardless of if he is or isn't the same alex, can be held to getting you your product. if you don't get it, then b.itch...if you do get it, and it doesn't fit...remember you bought mass-production chinese parts.

    hey

yes. if free send my way, otherwise, send me a text to let me know what you want.
  25. I like being able to replace it without dropping the tank. So top load isn't a viable option for me. I'm adapting the 97 xj sender to the mj unit and modifying an h.o. Xj pump and filter screen to it, with an mj float arm on it so that it will read accurately.
