Bidding war. I will take it pm me a price and we can negotiate details on when I can get it. my dad DD's one, I have a new motor for one...and I have been trying to track them all down. edit: mapquest says 18.5 hour drive. when can I leave?

I'm looking into a 4bta swap right now. The engine tech isn't a problem for me...I'm a diesel mechanic, these things are easy. that said...what should I be looking for as far as a transmission, and what can I expect to invest in the conversion. other specs of the truck are 5.5-6.5" lift, ford hp44 front (driver's drop...), 9" rear, tires unknown, gears TBD. the purpose of the truck is utilitarian light abuse. now, before you respond....keep in mind that I'm not doing this with the idea that I'm going to save money on fuel. I will, but it will take not outweigh the costs of the conversion. the conversion is done solely for sh*ts and giggles, and the added cool factor. I have a factory 2.1 TD comanche in the family...but it's not running properly since the head blew, and it is realistically not a great DD.

you've piqued my interest

Comanche of the month, July 2011 --- MRSIMONS's 1987
JeepcoMJ replied to Automan2164's topic in Comanche of the Month (MJOTM)
never heard/read of it, but congrats. too clean to do that too, but it was done nicely. -
Emissions test facilities are such a joke...
JeepcoMJ replied to beepbeepmyredjeep's topic in The Pub
plug and play for OBD2 (96+) in WI. anything 95/older does not have to pass visual or sniffer. ain't bad to pay registration here either....cheap IMHO. -
I have to say...the breathalizer interface, is a GREAT idea...that does not work too well in some scenarios. example...buddy has a friend who had one of those installed for obvious reasons. you could be driving down the interstate, and because it gives random intervals to test, if you are either drinking and driving, or simply don't hear it say it needs to be done...it will shut the vehicle down. no matter what speed you are at. that is unsafe. if you ask me, first offense drunk driving, you lose your license. period. 6 months mandatory without a license. 2nd offense, tracking bracelet, lose your license. 3rd, jail. period. no exceptions.

PD and FD members have each other's backs...they KNOW they abused their power, and they will NOT be giving up names to the ordeal easily...though they should be on the police report. that's a damn shame. that said...I can fix that. the body still looks square, and that is nothing that a bit of spot weld drilling, panel replacement, stitch welding, and paint couldn't fix. someone like Sir Sam could buy that and fix it and still turn a profit.

Header recommendation and what should follow
JeepcoMJ replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The header you use will be dependent on whether you use a mid 99 and up intake manifold. Example....a borla does NOT work with the 99 up intake without risky modifications to the number 6 intake runner on the manifold and the same tube on exhaust. From what I hear, APN is a good choice. As for mufflers....all dynomax ones are too loud. I chose a dynomax ultra flow and am ok with it...but it would be better if it was quieter. Likewise flowmaster and cherry bombs. Stock cat will work just fine. -
Most reliable/unreliable engine
JeepcoMJ replied to LobsterThief's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There all reliable. Only the 4.0 is worth messing with. Capable of the same mileage as a 2.5. The 2.8 v6 is reliable but capable of neither fuel mileage nor power. It is gutless. The 2.1 diesel is reliable, but only if you maintain it like a frenchman -
31's off my '86 yup, they rub at lock or when hitting decent bumps. 3.5" lift is going in. I had to put something in it for now to get rid of the horrible wobble from stock tires.
-
They are not in the way....they run on the inside if the floor skin. 95 and up have them pos permanently mounted for additional door strength.
-
got the first oil change in today...did a 2000 mile change. looks brand new still. also did up the exhaust finally. went with a dynomax ultra flow series, with 2.5" in and outlets, stock catalytic converter, and a band clamp up front with a turn down out back rather than a tailpipe. I may reduce the turndown pipe size to get rid of the mild drone when using cruise control. I went with a 2.5" just because they had that in stock. I'm overall happy with the exhaust. it's throaty, while being quiet at every day speeds. not too shabby at all. aside from that, the jeep has done a very good job of being a DD, getting a solid 19mpg. painting it this week, since I have a loaner car to drive from a friend. pearl flames are in the plans.
-
weld it to the door skin. low heat, small tac welds. wire brush the crap out of it first. remember, you won't warp it too bad that way, and the whole thing is being painted. btw...my neighbor said he'd paint the whole thing for $500, if it comes to him stripped.
-
let's face it...it doesn't even matter for me. i don't have the self control to stay out of the skinny pedal. i figured mpg out on my '99 xj, though...19mpg hitting the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd gear. guess it can't get that bad.

your slave cylinder is failing somehow or another.

BA10 to AX15 swap didn't work.
JeepcoMJ replied to Clay's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
hydraulics issue in the clutch. probably should re-bleed the system. maybe a bad master cylinder that was the cause of the initial issue. -
nice. that metal piece in the bed is the inspection shield for the transmission bell housing. put it back on...it will keep stuff from messing up your clutch/slave. and, remove that cargo light, turn the rubber gasket 180 degrees to the left, and screw it back in.

I hope one day that i'll be in a position to be able to make a trip like that. that would be fantastic!

No, the Chief had manual windows, bench seat and mini console. You could get power windows as an option, but they weren't part of the package. I don't know if buckets and a full console were even optional in the Chief. Most all the goodies were included in the Eliminator package. i've owned several chiefs...all had buckets, but no guarantee on center console. i've seen them with bench seats, too. all *should* have had roll bars, but at some point in time they were taken out. i've never seen an eliminator that had pw/pl/pm, though...and i've owned a couple of those, too.

wrong. you and i have some of the same friends. when you say things about a person to them, they will probably tell said person... anyways. tornadoes are cool. That works both ways
-
wade and I haven't been talking because, aside from him not really wanting to talk, his gf made it clear she doesn't like me...fine. so i called her a hooker, and he's all butt-hurt about it.

the news or general population must not have acknowledged those then cause i never even heard of one touching down by you let alone 3. oh, and i never lost power. good for you. calm down, and enjoy being a cynic we've had 3 touch down in the field next to me. one continued on to highway 36 and loomis, right next to frey auto, without major housing/ag damage. glad you didn't lose power. must be convenient to have a "fact" to base an argument off of just because you have an issue with a person who voices their opinions. I'm sorry that you put hoes before bros, and don't let $#!& just brush off your shoulder.
