backup lights don't work either though. aaaand where is the neutral safety switch?

got a 1995 2 door xj with an aw4 trans that went bad...torque converter was shot too. got a aw4 tranny and tc from the jy for 200 bucks (know the owner well) but it was frozen to the ground. had to cut the wiring connector ends because they were frozen into the ice. mechanically it is fine. i swapped over the wiring from the old tranny after i pulled it, except for one sensor...the one that's exactly opposite the shift selector. i couldn't figure out how to take it off without breaking it (broke the one on the junk tranny) so i just cut the wires off the old tranny, and spliced them onto the wires for the new tranny. they all matched up. NOW i am done with the mechanical part...or so i thought. it won't start, and the backup lights don't come on when switched into reverse. by won't start i mean it doesn't even crank. could that sensor i didn't swap out be bad? what could cause it? i already checked the starter relay and the juice coming to it and the starter. the fact that the backup lights make me think that i have a bad connection somewhere or that that sensor is bad. i used butt connectors for the wiring, and shrink tubed them in. can anyone shed some light on what it may be?

so you'd get the loan?

i flat tow my wheeling truck 10 to 20 miles frequently behind my DD. BUT i wired the tail lights to a trailer connecter up front, and it will have an electronic brake thingy installed so my brakes in the DD will control it's brakes. that is simply because I don't have the money for a big truck, and while i do have a tri-axle car trailer, i wouldn't dare pull that beefy thing loaded with the wheeling mj behind my truck...not for more than a few miles.

awesome xacto. i wanted a gti but this is a good deal on the golf. 26k miles, 1997, black with black leather interior, 5 speed 2 liter 4 cylinder with altezza rears and euro front lights, and 17" alloy v dub rims on low profile street tires. oh, and the power moon roof and 6 disc changer/premium sound. basically it's badass and i want it. idc that i only have $50 to my name right now...i'm gettin a loan!

Transmission option for a 86 XJ
JeepcoMJ replied to rejeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i had an 86 xj that i used as a donor. it had a factory 2.8 (same as my truck came with) and had the same firewall, at least up top. with a little inginuity, you can do anything with a small amount of effort. if the 86 xj means something to him or he just needs a project, do the swap regardless of firewall issues. otherwise, if he doesn't want that big of a project, sell the xj and buy a newer one. OR do the 3.4 swap like i said. talk to The Yak on here...he's got an 86 manche with a 3.4 and i'm SURE he's impressed with it -
so you can go and tell them what motor is in it...as it is a 94 and NOT an 86, it will pass 94 inspections then. beware though, that also means it has to pass 94 emissions.

Removing Paint from TJ wheels
JeepcoMJ replied to Landoloops's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
get a paint stripper. any generic one, you'll need a few gallons of it in the end probably. but use a paint stripper...that's what i used to get the corrosion and clear coat off my aluminum rims, and off my steelies before i blacked them out. -
Transmission option for a 86 XJ
JeepcoMJ replied to rejeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3582 that is my truck. it's an 86 and had the 2.8, i decided to go with a 1996 3.8 camaro engine (engine made by buick). for that one, i had to convert to a 4.0 radiator, but I made my own supports for it. and my own hood latches as well. -

JeepcoMJ replied to rejeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
no firewall mods. and the radiator mods really aren't that bad...you just need a donor xj or a few trips to the junkyard. everything bolts in with the exception of the 4.0 header panel/radiator support...that will require some minor cutting and welding. and you would need a new hood to go with the 4.0 style header panel. 4 or 5 weekends of workin on it (at most) and you could convert it to a 4.0. here's an easier mod...put a 3.4 camaro engine in it. the 3.4 is the same motor, with fuel injection and a different intake and bore. the computer is mounted in the engine compartment, it's still a v6, and you can use the stock 2.8 exhaust so no custom exhaust need be done. the only thing is that you cannot use one with air conditioner as the a/c pump makes it too wide to fit in the frame. the 2.8 and 3.4 share the same bellhousing pattern, same motor mount pattern, same block. the 1 thing the 3.4 doesn't have is a mechanical fuel pump (the 2.8 does) so you would need a electric fuel pump (either in-line or in-tank) to get gas to it. for the fact that you don't have to alter anything when doing this modification, it's a good one. here's some sites on the swap or information on the engines. the 1st one is the best page, with pictures. I recommend putting the 2.8 oil pan on, but NOT converting it to carbeurator. a good 50% of the 2.8's problem is that damned carbeurator. obviously you don't need to use any other parts from the 2.8 if you stay FI. if you decide on this swap and need wiring diagrams, i'm your man. i can get anything you could possibly need. http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Pro ... ect_XJ.htm http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl= ... n%26sa%3DN http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl= ... n%26sa%3DN p.s. the wiring for that would be run in conjunction with the original wiring harness. you would only need the harness for the engine, and the engine computer. -

aw4 was not an option, and keeping the 2.8 in it is also not an option (in my opinion) find a wrecked cherokeee with a good front end, tranny, engine, and harness, and swap it all into the 86. make it something worth keeping. -
yes you can. they even have programmers available. i'm not sure who from on either, but i know you can. (they're expensive)
-
yea be careful that that momentum doesn't carry you and your truck straight into back of the slow @$$ person in front of you

hahahaha i think if i bought a new car, and my dad followed suit, he'd become ME (he's never bought a new car or had to make payments on one in his life!) but i think i'm buying a 1997 vw golf 2dr 2.0 that's black on black for 7200 with only 26000 miles, ready to go with all the options including power sunroof! i'm NOT trading the mj or getting rid of it...but i AM putting it on collectors plates. insurance is hella cheap for those, but you can't drive in january then...that doesn't bother me cause my nice comanche will NEVER see salt again. spent too much time on it. i'm crazy?

i just considered selling/trading my comanche for a newer vw jetta or gti HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hmm...seems like it would have made sense to just sell it? sheesh, some people are WIERD
-
duner i think i will re-do it as yours is. that looks pretty good to me, and would be fairly simple.
-
i'm really just looking for something to put on a daily driver...i really don't know why i want to, except that i have a cb already. and i want to keep it looking more stock w/o a great huge antenna sticking up. lol, i guess i kinda pride myself in my truck...it looks like a verrrry nice workman's truck and i'm staying away from turning it into a kid's type truck. the other one i'm sure i'll put a huge whip on, but not this one.

1987 Lincoln MK VII Rims
JeepcoMJ replied to SlimFisher's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i put a set of stock mj turbines on a grand cherokee i sent to the junkyard...cause they were all corroded and the grand wheels were nice. actually so was the grand...it just needed the engine replaced and a new front axle and front grille/bumper. nice other than that -

i'm open to other people's ideas..and i guess here i say...to each his own. lol, my idea of vintage is the rims from that era which were offered on the vehicle. i just don't think those will look "vintage" -

may i ask, why those? -
i was thinking of improving upon this by making my own shock mounts and mounting them with the tops more inward and the bottoms more outward at an angle so that they're "triangulated" and have better movement.
