  1. Don, Is it my eyes, or do you have 97+ windows on your truck? Never noticed it before. But you seem to have the older rectangular mirrors on the door, not the 97+ style larger mirrors. JJ
  2. And they are called "1/4 inch push pins"? We will check Lowes and a good industrial hardware store near by. Thank you gentlemen. I have broken quite a few trying to get them of at the salvage yards.
  3. Where can I get 1/4" push pins? Are these the stock hold downs for the stock fender liner?? Thanks, John
  4. I will take the gray one if it is still available. See my PM JJ
  5. Just another stupid question that is off topic. Do factory (or other wise) roll bars provide any real "protection". Or are they just for looks? Ask this because I do NOT take my truck off road or on any trails, etc. I don't like rolling cars or trucks.
  6. Forgot about how easy stuff slides with the plastic bed liner. My truck came with a heavy rubber load mat that DOES stop stuff from moving/sliding. Some times I have to take it out!! As for tie downs, the previous owner cut access holes so he could still use the factory tie down rings. Works well with a couple of straps. Have to agree the Rhino lining is a good choice for a bed liner. Never heard anyone complain about a problem with them.
  7. Just a question - Why get rid of the bed liner? Bedliner in my 91 has been there since NEW and after 20 years the bed paint still looked like new. Also had a SnugTop on since new.
  8. Which PNP in Stockton? May want those bumpers!
  9. Interesting that the 88 lists GCVW max at 9820 and the 89 is listed at 9645. Did anything change from 87/88 to 89-92? Could it be the way AMC rated the truck was different from the way Chrysler rated the truck?
  10. No rear hitches for the Comanche anymore. Every once in a while a NOS one shows up. Best to look for a used one. Or to have one built for you at a local shop. Should not be hard to build. Some one should post drawings of their class 3 hitch. JJ
  11. Nice deal: Dana 44 and the track is about an inch narrower than the Comanche dana 44. For wheels you can use the Rodeo 6 bolt wheels if you don't mind carrying 2 spare tires. Available in 15 or 16 inch size. Lots of the 15 inch Rodeo wheels in yards. My 2000 Rodeo has factory 16 inch wheels. Check out Honda Passports also, they are Rodeos with a Honda name on it.
  12. From the 1989 owners Manual: 4 x 2 Class III hitch Trailer weight: 5000 lbs 2268 Kg. Tongue Weight 750 lbs Equalizing hitch and sway control required over 350 lbs tongue weight. Engine: 4.0 6 cyl. Trans: 4 spd auto with trans cooler Power steering, heavy duty cooling, heavy duty axel all required. 205/75r15 tires with 6 ft box GCWR = 8865lbs/4021kg as above with 7 ft box GCWR 8969 lbs/4068 kg P225/75R15 tires with 6 ft box GCWR = N/A P225/75r15 tires with 7 foot box GCWR = 9645lbs/4375 kg The 89 manual only list 4x4 with 205/75r15 tires 6 ft box GCWR = 9060 lbs/4110 kg. 7 ft box GCWR = 9264 lbs/4156kg. My 1991 manual lists the same numbers.
  13. For your own owners manual watch Ebay. I have purchased several for different automobiles from Ebay . Cost can be less than $10.00 if you take your time. Got a full owners manual packet in a factory zipper binder for less than that for my 96 Passat.
  14. Get a front mounted trailer hitch with welded on lugs for pulling the truck or for pulling something with the truck. Buy one for a Cherokee and it is an easy bolt on. That is what I have. Hitches front and rear.
  15. Wen I did my bucket seat conversion I had the upholstery shop at a large pocket to the seat back. Makes a good place to store documents, books and the like. Depending on what tools you want to carry around, a tool bag can make a lot of sense. For larger tools, try a bigger bag. Also, don't forget about the under the seat storage space. It makes a good place to stash a plactic box with a whole set of sockets, ratchets, screw driver bits etc. You see the 99 tools in a plastic storage box kit all over the place for cheap money. A wood box can be made easily with just a hand saw, an electric drill and some wood screws. But it really depends oon what you want to store in the box. I like a bag over a box because I can buy a bag in most sizes. Have seen and do not like the large thing with multiple pockets that hangs under the rear window.
  16. Found this link to a MB swap into a Comanche: http://www.dieselbombers.com/diesel-eng ... om617.html Enjoy!
  17. I have seen a couple of Toyota Trucks converted to the VW 1.9 TDI engine. That works out quite well. The VW TDI engine can put out 240 lb/ft at 1900 - 2000 rpms with just a few hundred dollars for a chip upgrade and larger injection nozzles. Not to mention taking a couple hundred pounds off the truck. I own and drive a VW TDI that puts out about 130 hp and 240 lb/ft. (Chip and injectors upgrade only). And it pulls a 3.157 final drive in my Passat. Problem is I need a clutch upgrade to handle the power. Have looked at putting a VW TDI engine in my Comanche at some point. I would use the Acme Adapter and a Toyota automatic transmission (Same as the Jeep AW4). Also would use a 1996 to 2003 VW TDI engine (not any later). I suspect the Mercedes 5 cylinder engine can be done for less money, lots more MB's in the salvage yards than VW TDI's. Also the MB would start at 123 hp and 180 lb/ft. The 5 cylinder Sprinter diesel would be great, but EXPENSIVE!
  18. There was a fellow on here several years ago who put the 5 cyl MB in his Comanche. Understand it was a total loss in Katrina. Sorry I do not have the links.
  19. The last two post are excellent! The 5 cylinder MB diesel is a good substiture in the Jeep. Lots of them around. Great reputation. If you choose to run waste veggie oil, it has been done many times on the MB engine - not sure how well, but it has been done many times. Still, don't expect to save any money with this or any other swap.
  20. Is that a Lund visor on the truck? Might be worth 50-70 to resell by itself. But then there is freight. Not very sure there is much of a market for flipping a Commanche. Fellow here in San Diego got 1 or the 100 Street Comanche Trucks for 2K and has not been able to resell it for $2200 in several months.
  21. Renault first entered the U.S. market in the late 1950's with a small economy car called the Dauphine. Here is some info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Dauphine It was a disaster and Renault left the U.S. market.
  22. Found one a couple of months ago from a 91 2 door XJ. Thanks,
  23. Don, Agree about the slow and crap stock parts! Can you post what aftermarket parts you did use and what stock parts you used??? Would not hurt to add how you built the cross body harness. If I can follow your instructions, I will take pictures and post it in the DYI forum. This question comes up several times per year. JJ
  24. I agree. You will want the wiring from a 2 door that goes under the carpet. I have it, but have not done the installation yet. However, that is not the only way to do the job. Yes, search can be hard to use. I will see what I can find for links and post them. Good review for me.
  25. Do your 89 doors have the factory power locks and windows from a 2 door or 4 door Cherokee? This question or similar ones have been asked and answered a dozen times (including by me)! Use the search function to find the answers. BUT, I "think" the wiring and the plugs changed in 1991 and the plugs are different. Again, "I think". Others will know. Look for a post from hornbrod, it will tell you how to build a very simple cross body harness. You will need this to control the passenger door lock and window. I am still screwing around with that issue on my 91. Keeping my daily driver 96 Passat TDI running is first priority. (New transmission and clutch by the end of March).
