  1. I'm trying to sort out the last loose ends on my 2.8 to 4.0 swap. So far everything seems to be good, engine fired up at the FIRST try and runs good. But i can't get the power steering to work. At first it was screaming and squeking like a dying cat and when i turned the steering wheel it didnt do much good. Well, i took out the pump unit and cleaned up both hoses, the output fitting and the pressure regulator. While i had thoose parts out i also removed the shim in the regulator body (as seen in the the DIY section: P/S pump modification) Put it back in today, filled up with fluid and bleed it according to all rules, but now nothing happend. I mean NOTHING! Not a sound, no power, no nothing! Any ideas what to do next? I must confess I'm not shure if the steering "motor" is the one from the 2.8 or the one that came from the 4.0 donor, are they different? It appears to me like they're identical.
  2. I also search about the same "xj-hand-brake-in-mj problem" a while ago, didnt find anything so i had to figure it out by myslef... Not done yet, but as you see i have installed the brake lever and a shiny little bracket about 8 - 10" behind that. My plan was to use the stock cable and cut it in the recuired length, then braze the end-fitting back on the outher tube, pull the end of the cable trough this and braze it... Then secure the outher tube to the bracket and connect the cable to a...ehhh...we call it "eye-nut" that I'm going to screw on the adjustment lever under the brake handle. The rear end of the cable will be connectet to the stock adjustment thingy. A little hard to explain, but i can post pictures instead when I'm done (this weekend) if anybody would like to see.. Ps: if you just use a straight wire or lengthen the adjustment lever under the brake it will rub against the fuel lines = bad idea!
  3. Sorry my bad spelling Eagle, i mean finished off course. Like done, completed, not like the country. If you have a big enough hammer the firewall isnt a problem.
  4. I'm currently 80% finnished with a 2.8 - 5speed ---> 4.0L - aw4 swap in my 86 MJ and IMO the easyest task so far was actually to get the engine/auto/transfer into position.
  5. Both pictures are from the MJ, showing off the original 2.8 stuff. Got this brand new pump cheap from the local "everything-you-need-and-don't-need-for-whatever-car-you-have" store *bling-bling* don't know the exact specs for it, but its from late-80s turbo volvos and I'm 99% shure it should deliver enough juice to run the 4.0
  6. It was a 2.8 identical to the US version with carb and mechanical pump. Now i have a 4.0L renix there and I'm trying to figure out a way to feed it with fuel since i don't have the tank sending unit with all wires, fuel lines and stuff from the 4.0L donor veicle. In theory i could just cut the fuel feed line and put in any kind of pump, as long as it delivers enough fuel at high enough pressure.
  7. Thanks! Anyone know something about those fuel lines?
  8. On a '86 2.8L... which one of the 2 fuel lines thats connected to the tank is the fuel delivery? One is 8mm and the other 10mm. Right (towards the rear of truck) is 8mm and left (towards the front) is 10mm This is how they look where they end up right next to the brake sylinder: Whats the purpose of the little 6mm pipe there? The other end is connected to the grey hose you can see going trough the first picture. Stupid me forgot to take out the tank unit from the '90 XJ i pulled the renix 4.0L from, but i found a volvo-type injection pump thats designed to be installed outside of the tank. Hoping that should do the job just as well, its really beefy looking. By the way, does anybody know where the fuel pump get its power from? The wiring diagram is kinda confusing me and i havent tagged any of the wires from the renix with "fuel pump" (stupid me again :wall: )
  9. I have a skyjacker 3" kit (but it didnt come with the same control arms as yours) waiting to be installed, was supposed to be with tuv papers but i havent found them anywhere yet... gonna send the dealer a mail about them once i get into it. What size tires? 33"?
  10. Are you going to get the lift/tires approved and written in the registration papers?
  11. As long as the rear end is nice, round and shining, who cares about the rest? :D Radiator arrived at the shipping company in NJ couple of days ago, and the locker was sendt from the dealer today. Expected to arrive at my house december 14. Total cost including shipping across the atlantic is about 1/3 of what i would have to pay at local stealers. Wonder if there is something else I need?? Gotta hurry up and order stuff since the exchange rate NOK to USD is at an all time low...
  12. Got this in return: "Delivery to the following recipients failed. info @ rightgear.com" :hateputers: and i speak english so bad i just don't dare to give them a call...
  13. Its a 86 with factory amc20 thats for shure, but i don't think its a metric ton. Thanks for the link to rightgear, will send them a mail once I'm back home.
  14. I need a locker and a radiator! Are auburn gear's ECTED any good? There is a AMC20 in the rear of my heep. I'm also having a hard time finding a radiator for my 4.0 at the junkyards and I'm thinking about getting one of those bigger/better ones since i already have to pay for shipping overseas. Does anyone have links to cheap and trusthworty webshops? have google'd for a while but there are just so many of them, would be nice to know where you guys order stuff from? I REALLY don't like the idea of giving away visa numbers and loads of money without having the possibility to show up at their office and  if they screw me...
  15. Found this one in my favourites: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 0454467317 Inboard cam from the sinking one at the end of the video.... Mud...I love it
  16. At work (refrigeration and A/C installation) 90% of all the piping are brazed. And because i have all that brazing stuff in the work-van all the time (and my welding skills are pretty bad), brazing is very often the solution when i need to attach one piece of metal to another. Brazed a couple of things in the jeep as well :D
  17. Swapping drivetrain from 2.8 5speed to 4.0 aw4 i have run into a problem with the transmision crossmember. Have search both here and several other forums and people say the holes should be there and it should be a simple bolt on. Well... not on my truck!!! Then i start to think (oh no, not again...) would it be  to drill holes right through the frame and through the floor, using long bolts to hold the crossmeber in position? Worried that might weaken the frame... And by the way, is the floor resting directly on top of the frame?
  18. Little has been done for the last six months (too much to do at work) but finaly i got the 4.0 mounted up where its supposed to be. I also gave the entire enginebay a little paintjob while it was empty. Just a "couple" of wires and hoses to connect and i should be able to crank it up. Looks like there won't be any long days at work in the nearby future so maaaybe it will be up and running within a few months :D Previous owner of the donor XJ bought it back...
  19. to you!! I looked at the same MJ my self about a month before you bought it but didnt have the cash ... and when i finally got them the seller had already made a deal with you. I must say thats is a man who keep his word, even if i offerd him more money and wanted to pick it ut 2 days before you he said a deal is a deal! That particular truck is The One that got me interester in MJ's about ten years ago. At that time it was owned by a guy living next to higway E6 just north of where you bought it, i used to  at it every time i drove by and i just knew i had to have one (or two, or three...) of those. So you better take care of it!! :D Ps: You didn list ut the noise in the D44 among the "known problems" and yes the 4.0L felt a little lazy..
  20. To be honest, i have no clue! Working on systems worth $$$$ we just can't experiment like that. But if it was my truck i would have tried it of pure curiosity, worst thing that happends is you get a leaking o ring or a screwed compressor  By the way, if you purge a little bit of refrigerant out of the system and it smells like f@rt, the oil MUST be changed...
  21. When changing from r12 to r134, remember to evac properly and change all oil in the system as well. r-12 uses mineral oil and r134 ester oil. Thats why o-rings etc can crack and leak. Ester oil is also extremely hydroscopic, meaning it draw moisture from the air if you leave the oil can open. Moisture + refrigerant/oil = trouble!! For pressure testing i only advice using nitrogen because air compressors also bring a lot of moisture and dirt into the system. Best way to find a leak is to spray soapwater over the entire system. Bubbles should appear if its a leak. If you have time and patience, do it in 2 or 3 steps. (first at 5bar, then 15, then 25..) But pressure testing a car ac condenser with just air compressor and a bucket of water should be no problem. Just evac a little bit more and remember you might not find all leaks. air compressors would have problem giving more than 10-12bar but ac can reach working pressure up to 30bar... Sorry if i hijacked the thread, just had to share some wisdom. Building and serving commercial ac/refrigeration systems happens to be my job.
  22. 27 years young, or should i say old? I'm not shure at the moment

    Look at this mj

He's a jeep collector with too many unfinished projects, thats why the manche is for sale. 83 hours left and plenty of time for him to sell it to others

    Look at this mj

This costs 40000NOK = 6770$ !!!!! and i have heard numbers like 100 MJ sold new in norway. But you can't compare prices between countries just like that, average income, taxes, availability, gas prices etc are variables that must be considered.

    Look at this mj

Was a little bored yesterday an did a quick search for MJ's for sale, then suddenly this clean beauty appears on my screen: 88 shortbed 4.0 auto. I have talked to the owner twice now and i told him I MUST have it!!! Problem is due to work we can't meet before next weekend and there are others who want it as well. Now i can't sleep, i can't eat, i can't think straight, all i think about is that white beauty because i don't think i would ever find one that clean over here again. If someone else buys it before me.....well.... :headpop: Just had to get out some of my frustration.....i hate to wait like this
