I tell ya... that license plate. Can't help but change the lyrics to "Disco Duck" in my head. DJZn4z2F2XI&NR=1 "Disco... disco TRUCK! Disco... disco TRUCK!" Another job well done. Thanks you, Rick Dees... thank you.

I was thinking OD green or a flat black and tan camo. Neither one is really "me", but I just love the idea of this silly truck that I can smile about with every bounce off the rocks and respray with a rattle can when I get home. That's what I get for building a truck that I can't stand to park in a full parking lot! :shake: Small update as well, got the brakes all working. Took running a new line to the rear, getting rid of the proportioning valve, and new pads in the front. Other than that, I'm not sure what's up yet, but sometimes it takes a bit to start... cranks and cranks, then starts and dies. Crank sensor? Time to dig through the archives!

I did!

... just noticed the license plate. Awesome to the max.

Another CL deal. Came from Verndale, so it was another drive to the north-country... not quite as far though. Didn't see any deer this time! Came up with a plan for this truck though! It'll be just another winter vehicle for the wife and I. Then after winter and my shop it up again, it'll go under the knife as I need a trail rig. Way I see it, I've got a pretty truck that's also a good tow rig, the '91 beater truck... er... great runner for less than desirable jobs, but nothing that I can throw around, bounce off a rock, or hang in a tree! I'm thinking of shortening the wheel base down to a two door XJ size so I can use a stock size driveshaft, fit in tighter trails, and build a small trailer to put it on. Probably Dana 30/44 combo, 3” lift, 33s, lockers, long arms in the front and maybe either just a simple spring over in the rear or put together a four link. Thanks MrSimon for the sample picture... this is what I have in my head: LWB: Way shortened: Either shorten the box sides and maybe dovetail, or build something custom. Who knows… plans might change by then.

Waiting on getting the brakes done on the new '88. Sometime in its life, someone changed one of the caliper bracket to the smaller, 2wd bracket. Soon enough though... soon enough.

Go get 'em, Rob!

Oh, come on, now. It's not that bad!... not all of it anyhow!

After a month of driving the '91 Pioneer I picked up off of xjrev10, and after looking for a new vehicle for the wife, we decided that just another winter vehicle would be best. So? How about another MJ! "She's a beauty, Clark!" I'm thinking old man truck fo' sho'! ... this would make number three for me. I guess that makes me a collector? Oh well... when it rains, it pours!

Bottom of the page bump.

I offered him scrap price just because I really don't have time to deal with a project right now. I'd love to have it and just sit on it until I have time to gut the whole thing and do a full wiring and drive swap, but if he can get more out of someone else, then that's fine too as I still don't have time to deal with it... it would also save me another 240 mile trip and a dolly rental! If he still has it in a couple weeks and he's a little more desperate to get rid of it, then sure!
-
Well, this went down today: I went down there to take a look at it and saw that this thing needs way more than just the clutch figured out. The wiring was a major hack, I don't think the alternator was charging, and it was just running kinda rough. I offered a couple hundred to take it today but he wasn't there yet. He's got another guy looking at it tomorrow and we'll call me if he does or doesn't sell it. If not, I told him to sleep on it for a while, but if the snow starts flying and he still has it then to give me a call. Solid frame and floors, but what tis thing needs is a full swap of everything from the firewall forward. Oh well... maybe next time.

Found something funny while looking around. The guy's name that I've been talking to is Clay. Hmm... this member's username is Clay... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=30771&hilit After reading all that, I'm agree on the clutch not disengaging.I think I'd want to start with the slave. How long has this thing been sitting?! Oh, Clay... I think I'm going to go for it... really, who doesn't need another MJ?
-
Just talked to him: '73 CJ5 pilot bearing for the V8 is what he used. I also asked the question again on the flywheel and he kept the renix. It runs. Also, when he got the trans, he got it as a matching set of trans and transfer case. It should have th renix flywheel, but the clutch for a '93... correct? What about the master cylinder? Would that remain stock or would that need to be changed as well?
-
Correct.
-
Oops... sorry everyone. Yup, AX-15. He said that he can push the clutch and it has a solid feel. It does run. As far as I understand, he changed the flywheel over from the '93.
-
Okay, so... here's the deal: I found another Comanche and it's an '88. It has the Pukey trans and the owner swapped in an AX-15 from a '93 XJ. He did the whole pilot bearing swap, changed the flywheel, and bled out the lines but it doesn't engage into gear. He also said that if you raise up the rear with the tires off the ground, then everything works fine. Back down on the ground, push in the clutch, and it's like the shifter hits a wall and you get nothing. I'm thinking that there may be an issue with the master cylinder or the hydraulics, but I want to throw this out to everyone. Thoughts?

Thanks again for all of the good suggestions! I think I'm leaning toward a Ford Focus, another Jetta, Toyota Corolla, or a Mazda 3 or 6. I should be getting the insurance check either today of tomorrow so I'll be able to get more aggressive with finding her a car. Excellent question from what I've found while looking around. We're looking into up to $6k. I'm one of those that hates having any sort of payment more than my house, so that's the limit that the wifey and I set. This wasn't planned by any means, and after just moving to a new area, my pockets just aren't as deep as they once were. We'll make something work. Again, thanks to everyone.

'88 Eliminator... Feb. 2009 - June 2026

Thanks! Starting to think about putting this one away for winter. Hoping that I'm able to stow it away in a friend's machine shed. Otherwise, I've got room for it... just need to back it out of the garage when other activities are happening. They're saying snow possible this week! -
Anyone have any opinions on a Ford Focus with the DOHC? :dunno: Been finding a few that somewhat interest me. Thanks again, everyone!

What has two thumbs and is super jealous?... This guy.

I know, right?! Some pile of junk you sold off, hu? Kidding... kidding...
