Can you put F150 springs in the front. If so what year and how much lift will it give you?
-
Just FYI, If you have the spring you can determine the spring rate by measuring the length of the spring with no weight on it. Then place a know amount of weight on the spring and measure the lenght of it again. The spring rate is the weight placed on the spring divided by the difference in the lengths. If you measure in inches the units of the spring rate will be lbs/in. As you guys said before it will probably take well over a 100 lbs to get the spring to deflect enough to even get a measurement.

summer badlands meet? now official!

As of right now I plan on being there. Something may change between now and then. Will any one be going up on 57 north? Anyone know how many will be there? -
Thats the first time I has seen a winch with rope instead of cable. How does it compare to the cable? From my experience with cable, it kinks and knots up after used a couple of times. Seems like the rope wouldn't have the same problem.

We should be there all weekend. Going to camp and leave around noon on Sunday.

We are going to Paddy's bluff in Western KY on the 27th. You guys should come up.

front bumper tie in plates
ryno1121 replied to 87manche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did make these drawings and plan to build from them. The tolerance depends on the person making the part and the equipment available. Someone using a drill and cutting torch in there garage will have a hard time with tolerances under 1/16". Also there may be (or should say most likely are) variances in the measurements I took from my truck. I attempted to leave enough room for mistakes. The holes are larger so if the position is off you should be able to get the bolt through while still lining up with other holes. And the width and length are smaller so that there is still room to weld. I just posted this as a guide. It certainly isnt as accurate as a factory print. I have had a very hard time finding this type of information anywhere on the internet. -

Here is the bumper-tie-in-plate. I plan to weld this to the truck along the outside edges. I finally figured out how to post pics. ;) -

Here is what I measured from my truck. The top and bottom dimensions are referenced from where the radius bend starts. Also the notch at the top is not shown, but the dimensions should still be correct. If anyone decides to use this I recommend checking the dimensions against your own truck just as a precaution before fabricating any parts. Try to post pic of bumper tie in plate soon. -
front bumper tie in plates

I have a PDF I made of the frame dimensions. I want to double check the measurements I took so that no one has the wrong information. I will post these as soon as I verify the dimensions. I am also working on a bumper tie-in plate that I will post soon. I checked the other plate against my PDF and had the same results. Except the front holes were also to far apart acording to my dimensions. -

Thanks. Thats a great help. I believe most of the holes in the truck are 5/8" Dia. -
Yeah, anything related would help. 87 is going to give dimensions for an aftermarket bumper bracket and I could also use the dimensions for the "frame" where the stock bumper connects all the way back to the bolts that hold the steering box. I have my bumper off and will get these dimensions myself. Once I do I can create a CAD drawing and post for whoever needs/wants it. I just thought if someone arlready had the information I could get more accurate dimensions. I'm sure there are others on here that could use the information also. Thanks for the help.

That would be a huge help. Working on CAM/CAD design for bumper. Thanks

Do you have anything that shows the dimensions in the front where the bumper mounts? Specifically the bumber mounting holes and the holes for the steering box.

I agree. I have 6.5" of lift and my 33's still rubbed on the front of the fender until I trimed them. I have 12.5" tires on 10" rims and was able to trim enough for clearance. I also had to bend the pinch weld over that is in the middle of the fender.

It may be the timing. Not hard to check or have someone check for you.

I have fabricated some similar to these. Thanks for the pics and info.

holeski wrote this: "The MJ’s stock shock mounts are part of the spring/u-bolt plates. When you do the SOA on the rear those plates go from right under the leaf spring to just above the leaf spring. This is something that wasn’t thought of when the kit was put together as it mostly parts from an XJ kit. After the SOA the shock mount sits higher then before. This makes the new longer shocks impossible to put on. I decided to do it this way. I have seen where some have cut and flipped the stock spring/u-bolt plat upside down." Got this from the "MJ Projects" board titled "New shop truck" thread. It talks about the problem I'm having. Didnt see this until just now.

The perch that has the lower mounts on it are now on top of the spring turned upside down. So this perch has moved about 6-7 inches up. The shocks are too short to fit now. I got the perch that sits on the axle with my lift kit. Maybe I put it together wrong. No pics right now but I will try to get some soon.

I have done a soa on my mj. The new shocks are too long now. Can some one post some pics of how they solved this problem? I have some ideas but hope to see a better set up. Thanks
