We made a trip down to Coal Creek first weekend of November. We usually go once or twice a year.

I just bought the parts to do this. The booster did not come with the spacer so I will have to make one. Is it 1/4" thick? Also, the rod on the booster is already flat on the end. Will this need to be trimmed down? Thanks Ryan

Put the new sensor in and it started right up. The idle was much better also. When I did the swap I thought this only controled the light on the dash. Lesson learned! Thanks for the feedback. Ryan

Thermostat housing

I have disconnected my temperature sensor and install an aftermarket gauge. I read that the sensor sends informaion to the CPU during start up. Does anyone know if this is true. I have new plugs, wires, ect. It is very hard to start, dies after a few seconds and is sluggish when it will idle. Once the engine has a small amount of heat it runs like a champ. Any help? You were right on. I took the spring and ball out and got it to shift out of reverse. It was shifting great into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd but would not go into 4th. Now the pos is stuck in 5th. Going to take it apart soon. Thanks for all the tips and support. I will let you guys know how it turns out. Always open to any other suggestions. Thanks

Thanks Pete. I found some threads on this and it sounds like it may not be worth it. It would be better to try to fix the current trans or find a direct replacement.

Did it happen when you took that picture next to your name? When I remove the carpet will there be excessive heat from the transmission hump area?

yea its been over a week and it seems as wet as the day i got hung up in that hole.

I would love to kick this thing. I was pulling on the lever so hard I thought it was going to snap. Can I use the 2wd transmission?

The transmission is stuck in reverse. I'm pretty sure the donor is a 86. Didnt they start putting the 4L in midyear?

I have a 86 2wd parts truck that has a 4L with manual transmission. My friend has a 92 with 4L 4wd manual transmission that is bad. What will it take to put the 2wd transmission in the 4wd? Please help. Thanks

If its an automatic, did you try moving the shift lever around or into neutral? Mine does this all the time.

I have a similar problem. When cold it takes about 20 to 30 seconds or more before the engine will even hit. Then will barely run for couple of seconds and die. Once it does start I have to keep foot on gas until the engine build a little heat. Once it gets warm, no where near operating temperature, it will idle fine and strarts like it should. Does anyone have a vacuum diagram for a 86 with a 2.8L, 4wd? If not, a couple of quality pics of under the hood would be a great help. Thanks
