Been working on cars for over 35yrs, know how brakes work. Also know each make / model of car is different on how much pressure it takes to actuate the brakes. Like my little 93 Capri takes little and my 2500 GMC diesel on 36" tires takes both feet and all you can push to stop. My first car had 4 drum brakes, single reservoir master cyl. and no vacum booster, and you did not / could not want to stop quick in it :D I would like to know where are the hookup points, what size air piston do they use. Do they size the piston to the weight of the car? On a big 28" class A RV I flat pulled a 4door VW rabbit and did not even know it was behind me till I would cut a corrner close and rubbed something :D A system like that can be used behind a RV and you would not be able tell much on how it stops. Put something like that behind a MJ and the setup is much more critical. Charles

Wonder how well it works after a couple stops and the vacum is gone in the towed car  I bet it's a Bi^h to get adjusted :D Charles

What type of trailer did you get it off ? Of all the trailers I have had / pulled / looked at I have never seen anything but electronic brakes and surge brakes. This is something I would like to look into as I do not like electronic and would not own a surge brake trailer :chillin: Charles

Yes, you are right. It's called Physics. That is why you need a large enough tow to handle the rig being towed. Trailer brakes are designed to work with the tow vehicle and not stop the trailer / towed rig alone. When I got my first trailer I had a S-15 Jimmy that pulled the trailer loaded great but to stop it without pushing the Jimmy I had to set the trailer up with a lot of controller. After one year of pulling like that I got a full size and could stop the trailer w/o using the trailer brakes if need be:D Charles

When towed rig significantly outweighs the tow vehicle and you add rain and trailer brakes that are overheated /go out and you are screwed  Been there and got the sign :D Only takes one time on I-75 and someone cuts you off in the mountains after you heat up the trailer brakes and the towed rig starts pushing you and you know why you need a big tow rig  Charles

E-bay may or may not do anything. I got something 3 yrs ago paid 375 and he did not ship. All PayPal and E-bay did was say sorry and block his account. Credit Card co. did give me my money back and charge PayPal which made them happy :D Also for anything under $500 the police will not do anything out of state, unless you want to go to his location and file, but the first time you do not show up they will drop all charges. I just ordered a reman injector for my car at $26.95. If it works well I will let you know as they also have 26.95 reman injectors for our 4.0 and 2.5 MJ's :D Charles
-
Well if you do the switch and go with the 4.0, let me know. I would the interested in the AX5 and front / rear DS off the 2.5 if the price is right :D Charles

""JCRoffroad unibody tie in plates. They are a plate, and they bolt into the factory bumper brackets, the steering box bolts, and the factory winch mount holes in the frame rails. It greatly stiffend things up, and will give you somthing to build a front bumper off of in the future. I think they're worth the $60 they're askng.""" Or buy some plate steel and make your own. We made a set for $19.00 and only took 2 hrs :D And when we paint them they will look like the JCR's Charles

Go to a spring shop that works on big trucks. I got 4 new u-bolts custom made in about 10min.. They were just larger then 14mm and about 3" longer then stock, $29 for 4 with nuts and washers. Charles -
I got 3 clips in till I knew something was wrong  well good luck in using the clips after I took them back out :brows: Charles
-
Now if I can just get the Ford shop manual for my 93 Ranger I will have everything I need :D Looks like I will have to fork out the $99 for the DVD  Charles
-
Yep, that is the catalog... And right now I am downloading all the other manuals / catalogs to load on the garage computer :D Thanks, Charles
-

Going to build the spring packs in a week or two, so I will know if I gain more. Charles

How much did everyone get with the SOA??? With a broken #3 leaf on both sides of the 2wd springs we need 7-8" on the front to level it out :chillin: Was looking for 4-5" with it but got a lot more  Looking great but sure is going to be a lot more time & $$$ to finish. Charles

Thanks, Last month I changed the front axle joints on my Ranger and the guy at Auto Zone sold me the wrong ones and could not even find the right one with the old one I had. I went to Advance and got the right one first try. Sooo this time I went to Advance first and :headpop: I got the wrong one  What makes me really mad is the fact I keep trying to get a PT job at Advance / Auto Zone to help with the MJ build and I get passed over for someone that has never wrenched in his / her life and when I tell them what I need they look at me like I have two heads. Charles

Any difference on U-joints between 2x4 and 4x4? I got a rear U-joint to put in over the weekend, got the 4x4 brut force joint went home and put it in and found it to be about 5mm to short after I put in the clips. Not sure if the 4x4 joint is different or the guy at advance gave me the wrong one like the last time :headpop: It was short in both the DS yoke and the yoke adapter on the 8.8. Charles
-
It has u-joints. Well the axle is set at 90deg. using a level the trans is at what ever angle it's at. I also have the rubber isolator version drive shaft. Also is the u-joint in the 2x4 different then the 4x4 DS? I picked up a new 4x4 u-joint to replace the old one (2x4) and it's not as big  Charles
-
How much can you be off? Quick check today and I am off a lot  Charles
-
Just watch your pinion angle, I think I have mine off some. Everything else went great and would not do anything different. Charles
-
The $14 bolt is also what I was told by the dealer, but I also had him look up the Explorer bolt if that made a difference. Charles
-
You already have it, so you are not out any money to try it first. You will know when you put the u-joint in it, It will be to loose, to tight or just right :D Charles
