1988 Jeep Comanche Aka The Penny Sniffer ,pic Heavy
Zebvance replied to Zebvance's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Got a little work done today and also got the last of my parts in. The USA standard 4340 chromoly shafts and alloy USA chromoly HD balljoints came in. Also got the artec truss and c gussets in. Had to trim the truss a little bit. This is the upgraded truss with the Jonny joint upper control arm mounts. In the picture you can see the gussets and truss in place. The lower gussets are sitting on the buckets because they are not tacked on yet of course. Went ahead and cut off the old upper control arm mount to mock the truss. I'm also going to plate in the lower control arm mounts instead of buying some heavy duty ones for 100 bucks. Also I have the 4.10 oem center section I'm going to switch the carrier to this axle sitting on the shelf behind the turdy 30.... -

Sick! -
This is what I find amazing. It seems even the high dollar headers today are simply tubular style stock manifolds. Perhaps there is a reason for that. I don't know.I think I'll give the PaceSetter a shot. I will strip the paint and apply a real header coating, then bake the paint on in the kitchen oven (when my wife isn't home). Modifying the cross over pipe is no big deal as I plan to install a flex joint in there. Did you look over my build thread and the problems I had with the step washers. Just be prepared to deal with that too. You will have to re grind down each one to fit perfectly...

I would think my build thread speaks otherwise...... And your negativity is pretty "unfavorable" -

To start off. The jeep is parked in a garage when its not on the sand. Second, I never plan to sell the jeep in my life. I have already put way to much money into it that I could ever image to get back. Third, Its my jeep..... Its up to me what I want to do with it... :dunno: -

Thank you for all the information! I think I will be able to knock this out with the help of that now. after looking at this again, If I don't have a working clock and I have manual windows I shouldn't have to worry about the orange wire correct? -

Works now!!!!! Life saver! this is everything I needed. -
I put one on my 88. I was far from impressed. Had a lot of problems with the step washers that hold the header on and also the down pipe not bent right as discussed already. If you look at my build tread you will see what I'm talking about with the problems I had. New Comanche, Lots Of Questions

What gearing are you looking for. 4.56-4.88 should be good for 35s. However the higher you go the smaller the ringear gears. Allowing better chance of breakage. That's why I'm running 4.10s. With lift it depends if you want to trim fenders or not. I'm not a big fan of trimming so that's why I'm going to be running 8 inches of lift. That will prob be the least you can run without trimming. But I do see guys running 35s on 4.5 inch if you trim the hell out of the fenders and bump stop correctly. All depends on what you are building your rig to do. -

Yes now I am realizing that but I'm up for the challenge. I like the idea of the upgrade. I have faith I'll get it working. No I just need to find diagrams to the wireing in the colum so I can see what wire are what. -

New Comanche, Lots Of Questions

I'm about to run 35s on my front axle. Already swapped a Ford 8.8 in the rear. 35s will last depending on how you drive it from my research. I was also going to go the waggy 44 route also but There are none to be found with in a 300 mile radius of me. I tend to have a heavy foot some times to I'm building up my 30 to help with that. Just ordered a Truss, C gussets, Chromoly shafts and HD ball joints. We will she how it holds up I guess.. -
Help Wiring A Push Button Start Kit.
Zebvance replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm sorry should of clarify. The ignition cylinder is broken. From my understanding everything that turns on when you turn the key to the ACC position is suppose to turn on when you flip the protected switch. and then when you hit the start button it completes the same connection that the ignition cylinder does when you turn the key one more notch forward to crank it. The kit I have has one extra switch on it. A ton of the other ones just have the protected switch and the start button. -
My ignition solenoid locked up and I'm tired of dealing with it. I broke the key off in it in the on position. Therefore the steering lock issue shouldn't be a problem. I ordered this kit off ebay, and what do you know, no instructions. I know its universal but I at least expected to get a spec sheet on the switches. ya know like hook hot wire to this terminal and hook ignition wire to this one. Any way. I have taken picture of the kit I have. I am Area i need to hook up a switch to turn the ACC on the hit the start to start it. But how do I turn the jeep off? Hit the start again? Anyway I'm a little bit lost with this. I also want to wire a kill switch under the dash or something if someone does get into the jeep so they won't steal it. Shouldn't be a big issue anyway because when its not being wheeled it in the garage. I have looked around for some thread on this and haven't had much luck finding the info I need. I need to know what color wires are the ones i need in the steering column and what they do. I did find one thread on cherokeefourm but after more research seems it may not be right. Anyway pictures of wiring or anything else along with help would be greatly appreciated!!! Oh and have a 1988 Jeep MJ 4.0 auto.
