Yep, it's still got the same sheet metal on it. Though they look a small amount better than that pictures - pounded out some dents. That's the nice thing about sheet metal.

Surprisingly, eBay has a decent amount of middle seats. Most of them are for fullsize trucks which makes them too wide :???: But I think I'll take some measurements off my truck and go Junk Yard crawling this week-end  That's always fun just by itself.

That was me. I never got around to doing a full write-up, and my laptop had to courtesy of crashing with all the pics on it. But I'll try to snap a few pics for you. I got the seat out of a ~97 dakota. I'm very happy with it. That would be really cool. Thanks. Was it a 60/40 split or a 40/20/40 split? Doesn't really matter, as long as its a split. How hard was the bracketry conversion?

Has anyone ever built a split bench seat for an MJ? I like having the bench seat, but REALLY want a center console. I've got buckets I can drop in, thought about building a center seat that the top folds down into a console like you'd find on most late model full size trucks. Then when I want to utilize the full bench, flip up the center top. I also thought about cutting up my bench seat. The other reason for making a split bench is so that when my 5'2" wife hops into to drive (how ever rare it may be) - I wouldn't be eating the glove box door cuz I'm so freakin close to the dash.

The Rusty's glass use to be Hannemann, but they copied them and started making them on their own. Prolly cheaper for them But that's also "I heard from a guy who heard from a guy" stuff

Hey bigd - do you have cameras in my garage and house? You just described my current events to a freakin T!

Nice find hordbrod! That glass almost looks like add of pieces versus all new replacement fenders. Looks kinda cool though! Make me wanna take my 87 LWB leave it stock height glass on the front with a huge freakin motor! The wife isn't going to like this.......... ::insert evil laugh here::

Definitely fiberglass. Are you running a short bed or long? As far I know, currently there isn't anyone making long bed glass. I know Nick at Jeeptricks was going to be getting some done, but I haven't heard about them recently.

question on 87 to 90 242 transfer case
gogetemturbo replied to comanche87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You'll need to change out at least the main shifter link that pops into the shifter arm bolted to the transfer case. If the 242 comes with one, you might be in luck, but you may have to play around with a couple few or custom modify one. I don't remember if the main pivot support bracket that bolts onto the transmission/transfer case works right or not. Wish I was more help for you. When I installed my 242 I also did a trans swap to the ZJ 42re, so everything was different on mine. The other thing you'll need to watch out for in the t/c input. There are a bunch of variations. 21 and 23 spline, short, medium, and long depths (how far it sticks out of the transfer case.) Obviously, you'll need to match up to what ever you've got. If you do have to look at swapping the input (tear down of the transfer case) - there are two different planetary pitches. As much of a PIA it may be, I love having the 242. -
looking for info on the 97' conversion

:agree: Is the only issue I really know of. The headlights do cross over. -

It's pretty close to bolt on. Only hitch (which is minor) is the turn signals and the running lights. You'll need the factory 97-01 socket for the inner turn signal, the 96 and older turn socket should fit into the outer socket hole, and the factory 97-01 sockets for the running lights and just splice them in. I didn't use the bracing that the 96 and older fenders use, I just bolted the fender to the corner of the header panel and then bolts that hold the header panel do the main job of holding it all together. I beat mine pretty good and haven't had any issues with it being loose. It's amazing what just that little change does to the look of the truck. -

I was just looking at the parts listings I have and it shows that in 92 (for my truck) there was an 18 and a 23.5 gal available. I haven't run my truck out of gas, but I have run it really low, and the most I have been able to put in is 13.5 gal. Being mine is a short bed, it should have the 18 gallon tank, but I don't think that thing still has 4.5 gallons left in it. I think I'll fill a gas jug and drive the truck out of gas and do the math to see what happens. I am currently figuring out a dual tank set up, since I have the tank out of my old truck. Near as I can figure, I can set it up with saddle tanks with some custom mounts, and plumbing. I'll have to shorten the exhaust up, but there should be enough room to do it.

what long arm kit would you pick on a budget?
gogetemturbo replied to comanche13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't think anyone is saying that. Personally, I haven't done any work with the Motion and Clayton kits. I'm sure they are decent or good kits. I have done an extensive amount of work with the RE kits on various platforms (TJs,XJs,MJs,ZJs, even some prototype WJ and YJ kits...) I can vouch for the kit. Now like any other "mass produced" product, there will be some flaws. Nothing is perfect, for any lift kit/any brand. With all of my years in the business I have seen RE have one of the best reputations out there. With minimal problems, be it parts, design, customer service, which ever. -
Definately agree. I find it humorous too see how things progress and styling "cross overs"
-
Absolutely. I'd love to see the concept drawings for both the 2500 and the 1999 Concept The 2500 almost has a little WJ inspiration to it as well. Grill area, headlights maybe.

I've got a few, best one is I was working for an Off Road shop a few years ago, and was finishing up a lift on a "Pretty Truck" Silverado (big stupid 2wd that was a waste of time and money.) I was working under the back end on jack stands, just put some lift blocks in, sitting in the wheel well. I leaned back to reach a tool that had gone a little out of reach and the back of my head hit a corner of sheet metal. Natural reaction is to jerk forward (ya know?, to move away from the sharp object?) and proceeded to slam my forehead straight into the over load spring. I had a 2.5"x.5" red mark the bruise on my forehead for about a week. Most recent: Swapping leaf springs and rear differential of my blue 87 MJ over to the white 92 MJ. I had the blue truck ripped apart the week-end before, so I just needed to get the white truck ripped apart and everything installed. Saturday the front end went great, no hang ups, no problems. Sunday, I'm feeling good, confident that I'll be cruising around by noon. Well, the leaf springs had another thing in mind. Rather, the leaf spring bolts. Now I've run across countless Jeeps with stubborn bolts, especially XJ's rear leafs. But never have I had this much trouble. I let them sit with JB80 for hours, cranked up my compressor to 200psi, and still....nothing. They would spin in the spring bushing, but the nut and bolt would not separate. FINALLY after countless hours they start to break loose, on the 3rd one I got hit. I had been double wrenching (21mm on the nut, 15/16" hooked in) on one side and using a breaker bar and a small length of tube on the other. I was laying under the truck and pulled down on the double wrenched side. That wrench spun so fast on the other wrench that I barely knew what happened. Been over two months now, and I think the U shaped scar on my forehead from the claw end of a 15/16" wrench is going to be with me for a long long time...

Definitely. That 1999 concept also kinda resembles the 05+ WK Grand Cherokee...with a different front end that is.

what long arm kit would you pick on a budget?
gogetemturbo replied to comanche13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The RE kit will go on. The side supports have to me trimmed/notched to clear a factory cab support that we have, but it goes on and works incredible. -
I've worked with the RE Radius arm kit quite a bit, it's no different than any other suspension. It needs to be loved and comforted. Meaning you'll need to ensure that all mounts are correct and that you're alignment is right. Get those things dialed, and you'll smack yourself in the head for not doing it sooner.

Absolutely RE. You'll spend less money in the long run. You're dreams don't have to be ruined. The RE kit will go on, just needs some modification. Even with that in mind, it's the best way to go. -
They are mostly right. The system "kind of" bolts right on. After you cut off the lower control arm mounts (like it was said before, we have more to cut than the XJ guys) but the side support brackets need to be cut. I'm sure you guys have seen the blue Jeepspeed MJ with the 2500 front end conversion. I helped the owner of that rig put the RE long arm kit on. The Comanches have "cab supports" that go from the "frame" out towards the pinch welds. The long arm crossmember is 3 pieces. Two outer pieces (the side supports) and the center part that drops out if you need to do a trans or t/c swap. It really isn't much more difficult, just requires a little extra time. Hope this helps.

That is definitely an 8.25

A few XJ to MJ inquiries
gogetemturbo replied to The_Slow_Norris's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would highly recommend looking at Rubicon Express for the lift kit. I have the drop bracket kit with adjustable upper and lowers, and it works beautifully! A lot of Jeepspeed guys run it as well, and it stands up to the beating.
