upgrade interior to 2000ish cherokee? yes/no?
gogetemturbo replied to bhorocks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I guess I can't speak for every comanche/cherokee, but on mine, the tabs for mounting the dash (right under the windshield) were WAY off. and the two lower bolts (right near the kick panels) were completly different. It might have been that it was a 2001 dash. Jeep may have changed all kinds of things knowing or unknowning they were going to can the XJ. Either way, There was nothing I could take off the cherokee that would make my dash just bolt in. As far as the custom steering column, I could have take the XJ aluminum mount and done some custom tabs off the fire wall, but in my case, I would have had to modify the firewall to do it. That's why I custom built mine. -

I did it when I put in my 2001 motor. It definately is a lot of work, but it's worth it. You'll have to custom mount it completely. Nothing matches up. I had to build a custom mount for the 2001 steering column, that was a royal pain in the...but again, worth it. I say go for it. -
I've got the drop brackets on my rig and they are incredible. Prefectly clean un-bound 10+" straight up and down travel...Just gotta know how to "tune" the suspension. Guys in Jeepspeed have been running them for years with great results. Now mind you, the RE Long arm is WAY easier to get clean travel out of, after you have the crossmember mounted (it is kind of a pain). But to me the RE LA is worth it. I love my drop brackets, but the RE LA will be coming soon...

Not sure if anyone has already brought this to the collective's attention... but wow................... http://www.race-dezert.com/cgi-bin/trad ... d&id=18977

JeeperJohn, It really is funny that you bring that up. I was actually thinking of buying a second set of housings and building a box to house them and the HID systems and use them as aux. lighting. And I would also then always have a spare housing for my regular headlights. You make a valid point as far as consideration for others, but I also like to light up the entire road. Just a question, I understand your point, but do you get mad at the BMWs and Merc/Benzes out there with HIDs from the factory? Like I said, I understand your point, and I'm not trying to start anything. I am just curious.
-
The HIDs are awesome. In my old truck I had some PIAA extreme whites, those were really good, but they don't have the range and intentisy that the HIDs do. The ballasts are from a Nissan (factory) that I got from a buddy of mine, and the housings are some cheapies from eBay. I adjusted the lights to where they need to be and I still get people flashing thier brights at me! HaHa I love them, though I need to get some different bulbs or housings cuz the bulbs keep poping out.

I got my Barnett Performance Products X-Rock and Steering box brace installed today. The X-Rock made a major difference. I need to rebuild the front shocks still but the bar made it a lot more stable, and didn't change my articuation by any measurable amount. Very happy with the new parts!!! The TJ system is completely swappable with the MJ/XJ steering. I have the Currie HD TJ steering on my MJ. Fits perfect.

RE 5.5" w/ drop brackets
gogetemturbo replied to MWinland's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Rockhardzj...I do remember seeing something around on here that you were planning something like that, I hope yer not offened. I actually have a buddy that owns a shop that put one into his LB with an NV3550 and an NP242...This truck is very wicked...It makes me drool...I need to get some pics of it and post them. I think he is going to turn it into his new race truck for Jeepspeed and turn his stroked/alum head/monster into a pre-runner... -
RE 5.5" w/ drop brackets
gogetemturbo replied to MWinland's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
ok, gotcha. I mis-understood then. I just don't want people to get the wrong idea about the drop brackets. I'm contemplating building another MJ...I'm thinking stock height...short bed...33s...minimal up travel...loads of down travel...CORR style...maybe with a healthy 4.7L V8/nv3500/np242?......It get's me drooling to think about it... -

RE 5.5" w/ drop brackets
gogetemturbo replied to MWinland's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Wow, there is a lot of fish flopping on this subject. How are drop brackets supposed to be a temporary thing? I can name off 4 or 5 JeepSpeed XJs that have been running them for YEARS AND YEARS... not to mention all the other ones that are running them as well in the recent years....I even know of 2 comanches that have been running them for years. One of which just raced in the most recent JeepSpeed race (night race in Lucern) in the Open Class and did very very well. I run them on my MJ and I'll compare my 10" of clean un-bound travel against any longarm kit anytime. It's not that the Long Arm is better or the Short-arm/Drop bracket is better, it's about the feel you want. A short arm kit feels tighter, a long arm kit feels like the truck is wider. Concerns of dragging the DBs on rocks on less than 33" tires? What do you think a Long Arm is gonna do? I just think that there are too many people that jump to cutting everything off and building something custom. Companies like R.E. spend more money than I'll ever make on researching and designing kits that work. Yea you may have to spend some money, but for the safety of yourself, anyone else in the rig, not to mention everyone else on the road, think more than twice before building a custom suspension. Long Arm Kits are wicked...and my MJ will have long arms eventually, but these damn drop brackets work so frigging good!!! I'll just off my soap box now, just needed to toss in my 'lil bit 'o knowledge. -
If I remember right, the red one a few posts up, the truck was a Long Bed and kept the rear wheels in exactly the same spot and grafted in the rear doors. I like that truck a lot, if I were to build it I'd prolly ad 6" in front of the wheels wells. And I personally don't care about the rear door being stock, I still think it looks really good. A full door would be optimal, but that would be a lot more work. The Cab of the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG one looked really good though...minus the damn visor...
-
How are you planning on doing the cab extension? I did the late model swap as well, you'll be very happy with it, I am with mine. I've just been jonesing for an extended cab or crew cab...

I watched a buddy of mine finish welding up an engine cage in an xj, and he told me "What out for that...it's hot" Teasing me...2 seconds later I lean over to look at something on the fire wall...and rested my forearm on the still glowing spot he just welded. I ended up with a 6 inch long 1" wide or so 3rd degree burn on the soft skin of my forearm...Total moron moment...

You can check out the CHerokee Stuff on T and J's web site www.tandjperformance.com I like to build my own stuff also, so I completly understand all of that. But I would like to see these companies build more stuff for our MJs, so I am trying to push them a little. Thanks for the input guys. Is there anything else you guys would like to see manufacturers make and sell?

Thought I might show my project off a little
gogetemturbo replied to gogetemturbo's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
It sounds great. I love it. Not to loud, but certainly not quiet. I had it on the renix 4.0L also and it was great with it also. -
I understand. Same goes for lift kits. Damn near anyone can make thier own for these things, but how many really do? It's easier to buy some that are already figured out, or you don't have the correct tools to make your own, or you don't know how it should be made. It comes down to personal preferance

How many people would be interested in the T and J Performance Chassis Stiffeners for thier Short or Long Bed Comanche??? I'm told that if they are made, they will be priced the same as the XJ - $299.95. They just need to know that thier is a market for them. And if they make those, then they will probably make the rock sliders also, which go for $345 Please let me know.

Thanks for posting them Pete. Those flares are actually fiberglass fenders. They are from Trailer Products/Ajax. Bitchin aren't they? That's why I love them, they don't look like normal fiberglass.
