  1. As most of you know I converted Bucky from 2 to 4X4. before the paint mess... Driveline parts for the sake of the question are: original 4.0 renix engine (pushing 300k miles, go team). New AX-15 trans, with external slave cylinder, New NP 231, 4-56 gears in (non disco)D30 front D44 rear, Advanced adapted cable shift set up for transfer case. Luk HD clutch. Since Day one on the street following the conversion the transmission has been exceptionally stiff shifting(for the record it is presently filled with 10-30 synthetic). All along I have written this off to new internals syncros etc. etc. I have possibly 4 to 5 thousand mostly street miles on the truck at this point since the conversion, and my thoughts that the trans would "loosen up a bit" have not happened. 1st to 2nd is real tight, 2nd to 3rd a bit better 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th no problem. and as expected a slight double clutch to get into reverse, no biggie. The issue and question is downshifting...Any down shifts are significantly worse (harder) with 3rd to 2nd virtually impossible. I would hate to be on a tight inclined trail and need to down shift 3rd to 2nd...serious pucker factor I'm sure. Some time back before the paint fiasco...After trying to get the console over the shifter in the interior, I came to the conclusion that I have a wrangler shifter presently in the truck, in other words the XJ console won't fit. I scored an XJ specific AX15 shifter a while back and the other night pulled it out of the shed. Right after I had originally acquired it I pulled the wrangler one out and was going to swap them. After I got the wrangler one out I noticed that the diameter of the plastic (doughnut/ball/bushing call what you want) on the internal end of the shifter is different between the two. With the presently installed being bigger in diameter by about .080". At the time I just noticed the difference and felt I should double check before slapping the (sloppier) one in. What is anyone's opinion as to whether the reduced diameter (plastic piece) will loosen up the shifting or have any impact whatsoever? I had forgotten about the difference in diameter till I pulled it out the other night and though hell maybe it will help...Is there anything else that I should look at? I will when weather permits open it back up and try it regardless (and change the fluid to Redline MT90 at the same time)I am just curious if anyone else has suggestions/opinions.
  2. Congratulations and so very well deserved. You have to respect anyone for bringing them back from the dead, but in this case respect alone is just not enough. I have to say that your build is so over the top with every nuance and detail planned then executed to the max, that it is a thread I have read countless times and gotten more out of it on each occasion. You do incredible work man you really do. I wish I had taken a page or two from your book, and painted mine myself....but there's that no garage thing again.... all kiddin aside...kudos and congratulations man, well deserved.
  3. Merry christmas happy new year etc etc etc. To all you fellow comanche addicts in the electronic lala land. Hooping all your erands are run your shopping done the honey dos and chores are behind you the wind at your back and sunshine in your sights. Enjoy the family time with those you love and vice versa.
  4. Amen...
  5. He eats hobbits?
  6. What part of we are all here bonded by our passion for comanches is being sidelined here. Oh yeah pretty much all of it. Hell this is bordering on why I don't watch reality TV. Sure I appreciate the knowledge and experience, But enough of the posturing and pontificating already.
  7. Yeah I got a quote from LineX too....that's what led me to look elsewhere.
  8. Give my left nut if my paint looked that good......
  9. Having little to compare it to...yes I would. But I have to say I am very careful with prep work on any surface I paint etc. I have a buddy with Rhino liner in his truck, and by comparison the rhino stuff seems softer and a bit "giving" while the raptor liner is harder and might tend to chip if hit hard enough. If you are looking for something to hold up to stuff just being thrown in the back and letting it bang around back there, the rhino liner might be a better choice...just don't know yet. I personally like the look of the raptor liner stuff much better, time will tell how it holds up. My best suggestion with the raptor liner is to follow the directions and then some on the prep... and without a doubt if in the prep you take it to bare metal then absolutely use their adhesion promoter before shooting it on there. I have used it on the bumpers side bars and roll bar also. I also intend to scuff the paint on the lower bed side and doors and shoot them as well after I get the paint job sorted out.
  10. No sweat it's all good. I would have been better with the original plan and bolted the bed back on the trailer. I slapped one of the tailgates on the truck and retrieved the HO 4.0 . Point of fact when the seller tells you "don't worry about laying that motor down, we drained the oil out before it was pulled" Don't you believe it baby....I had give or take 4 quarts of old oil all over the bed... Btw looks like the raptor liner is pretty good $#!&.
  11. Found it.....guess I should have used search ather than posed the question..sorry. The thread size is M10-1.5
  12. There are by recollection 4 nuts (one in each corner) on studs as you mention. There are also 4 bolts that go though the "frame" rails into the bottom of the bed. I assume both nuts/studs and bolts are metric and fine thread. Just could not remember what size. Regardless it made more sense to slap the tailgate on bucky and go tote the engine home, Than rig the lights bolt the bed down and use the trailer with no plates on it for the quick trip. Many thanks for the reply though.
  13. Does anyone know off the top of the head the size of the bolts and nuts that hold down the bed to the frame rails? I can't take the time to dig for mine to bolt the bed down to the trailer frame. I scored a low mile 92' 4.0 HO from a guy off craigslist. I don't yet have my hardware mounted on the truck to put the tailgate on to go pick it up and need to take the trailer to pick up the motor. If someone knows I can stop at the hardware store and just buy a set on my way home.
  14. I didn't say it was above freezing....but had to wash it anyway. Yeah I guess I'm a sick f*ck
  15. Last night got door handles mounted and side mirrors on. yes I will have to pull em off to buff out the doors, but it is oh so nice not to need a flashlight and needle nose pliers to open the door especially in the cold and dark. Finished off the day by going to the car wash YAY!
  16. I pulled the truck into the shop after work today and put in new door weather stripping and window seals. Wow is it warmer! I drove home temp outside was 13 degrees. Had to shut off the heat before I got home!!! I don't have the mirrors or locks in or insulation in the doors yet ....this keeps up I will be driving around nekkid by the end of the week.... and I normally only do that in the summer. Paint job half done or not...man it's good to have her back.
  17. Your wisdom, knowledge and experience will be sorely missed. I don't think that is a stretch to say that without your renix information so readily available and magnanimously offered, that resurrecting my 88' would have been a completely different experience. This information gave me the tools to understand and cope with the arcane system that I have. It allowed me to be able to troubleshoot issues without blindly stabbing at them with replacing parts unnecessarily (been there done that can't stand the frustration) This process then allowed the passion for these trucks to take hold rather than my inadequacies suggest I walk away having my balls kicked by my lack of understanding. I too get frustrated by the petty squabbling that comes and goes on any internet forum (there are decidedly certain individuals that will never work and play well with others), so I can more than understand your action. But know this, your contribution to countless people has changed and helped so much, and there are more MJs resurrected because of this information and knowledge you have provided, rather than have them rotting in a corn field or scrap yard. To that sir I say thank you. Best wishes to whatever you turn your hand to.
  18. Stick to yer guns Troy you know what you are doing.
  19. This remains to be seen but at this point beyond the down payment and materials bought throughout to process, The only thing that has been exchanged is words....lots and lots of them.
  20. Yup...but want to put in a new winshield and go to the 97 + one piece rubberr seal first though.
  21. looking good never could stand red on a vehicle unless it is a fire truck or Ferrari.
  22. why is the guy a flake and a piss poor businessman? I have no idea. If it had been malicious I would have no doubt gone a different route. The fact is that he is just pathetic. I will say he wants to "make it right" and complete what it needs, but I will not leave it with him under any circumstances. I think it best to close that chapter......Yeah it needs more work to complete. But all things considered at the moment I am just thrilled to have it back. It really sucks that as I get it back, the weather is completely uncooperative to get anything done (I can't wait to put the doors back together for instance). I was very much impressed that she fired right up and has had no problem starting and running well in the sub zero weather we are having (guess I did a few things right before the decision on a painter). I will be bring it down to the machine shop I work at over the weekend so I can pull it in out of the cold and work on at least the doors. The draft and glass rattling is really a pain. looking forward to door handles locks weather stripping window seals and side mirrors also. Many thanks to all you guys for thoughts and support...I means far more than you know.

  25. Anyone else having trouble with photobucket lately??? I had no problem uploading to their site from my laptop last night. But could not cut and past onto my build page from there at all last night, and only the little thumbnail shots from work this morning. It has been so long since I tried posting to here from there is there something I should know? or am I just dummer than usual.......
