Screw It.... I just ordered the Hurst unit. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Core-Hurst-shifter-1989-1999-Jeep-Cherokee-Comanche-6-cyl-w-AX15-5-speed-/00/s/NjAwWDUxNg==/z/5YwAAOxy3zNSpLA4/$_3.JPG Review will be posted following arrival and installation. Need to move on to other stuff. The exhaust leak from the pacesetter header is driving me nuts

doors have not been buffed out yet, and bed needs to be re-shot.....long story. Wheels are By AEV (American expedition vehicles) they are 17 X 9... 5 on 4.5 and are no longer being made (still in 5 on 5 though). I saw a NOS set of 5 in boxes on e-bay the other day just like these though. they are called Pitlers by AEV the color is argent. My buddy Earl in Maryland has them on both his spectacular MJ's but in another color I believe

Thanks for your comment. the Raptor seems to be holding up fine, but I reserve my opinion till I get it sprayed on the lower body as planned. Funny though, about a week after the rescue from the painter, one of the guys here at the shop rear ended me after work. He was only going about 10 miles an hour (thank god I had put the rear bumper on or it would not have been pretty) The cow catcher/brush guard on his suburban had a plastic pretty boy trim piece that hit one of my D-ring tabs. my bumper is not tweeked nor chipped in any way (the bumper is also shot with raptor liner) now granted it was not a metal to metal impact. but it does say something about the raptors resilience. If you consider that an endorsement...well there it is. I will as stated reserve my opinion till I get it on the outside of the body panels. The funny part of the story is...everyone at work was completely cognizant of how long my truck was gone, I did not know who hit me till we both pulled over after turning the corner. When Chad realized what truck he had hit he went white as a ghost and was in panic mode...no damage..no problem. (but the look on his face, priceless)

LOL yeah parking her outside kinda sucks, but if anyone is going get to do it at my place it better be Moma's Subaru. I would really appreciate at least having a garage this time of year for working on the vehicles and parts etc. that's the part that really sucks. Who knows maybe after the kids are all moved out we will see what we can do about a solution to that.

Nothing new except working on figuring out the shifter issues but I could not resist posting a couple of pics after her bath yesterday.

Groovy..thanks Jim. guess I have a trip to the P&P in my immediate future. Then we will see if that is all the problem really is...

I also checked the shift tower hieight that is on the trans in the truck as best I could without removing it. It would apear that the hieght from the mount surface to the top without the shfter or boot is 2.50". Soooo if the hieght of the shift tower on an AX-15 for an XJ or MJ is 2.00" (ish) I think I have found my answer. Can anyone confirm the shift tower hieght for a known XJ/MJ unit before I go to the junkyard?

I tried just changing the shifters yesterday and the one that was reputed to be from a cherokee. is clearly shorter (on the end inside the trans.) enough so as to not engage the shift guide(saddle whatever it is actually called). That it is not possible to get into 2nd gear at all. I am starting to think that the shifter I got with the transmission is actually for a Dakota. and taht is why there are so many differences in it. Here are some pictures. The shifter with the Momo wood knob is the one I got with the trans and have been using since the conversion. The top portion of it that threads onto the silver shift arm is the top of the shifter from the peugot original I cut off and used. the other shifter in the photo is the XJ (or so I was told) unit.

I am running the "bomb proof" motor mounts from M.O.R.E. (mountain off road ent) on my 88' 4 liter. (pricey but nice). I know the offer mounts for the 2.5 also...not sure about the trans mount though.

Grandaughter Cambria got her first Jeep for Christmas. Tell me she does not look thrilled....Guess it runs in the family.. this makes 6 jeeps between us.

The mirrors and door handles are on but not in these pics. They will have to be removed to buff out the doors. The weather will have to get much better before that's going to happen.
-
Well Lets see if we can't get photobucket to play nicely.......theese were hot about two weeks before Christmas. These were the last photos taken...as I have been unable to upload photos untill tonight I have not shot any new ones.

So does anyone know if there is a difference in HIEGHT of the TJ/YJ shift tower vs the Cherokee shift tower for the AX-15? and If the height is different does it effect how far into the trans the shifter goes? as I only have the one that is on the trans (and unsure which it is) I have nothing for comparison. Hopefully thw weather will warm up enough to do some tinkering in the next couple of days.

point well taken...My laptop has all the signs of demonic possession. Certain it is at least a factor if not the cause. I did however try my desktop at work recently and had no luck with that either ( I have posted from photobucket to CC at work previously). Oddly enough the photobucket website format is different from using home laptop vs work desktop. I know I'm no brain surgeon but that seems a little weird to me. I knew at some point that I would get to an age that all this captain billy whizbang electronic tomfoolery would become less intuitive, and that I would have subsequently, a lessening amount of patience to deal with properly it in the process (and that perhaps that is all the problem actually is).....but really, are I there yet?
-
I agree photobucket sucks ...I have not been able to get it to cooperate on any level since I got my truck back from the painters. Not that there is really anything new to show you guys...but frustrating none-the-less.

the problem definitely seems at the shifter rather than internal. But both of your suggestions seem more than plausible. I would note that the clutch master /slave was a pre-bled complete Mopar assy. that was brand new. does that lesson this as a potential reason? It is cold wet and snowing out where the truck is, or I would already be trying the XJ shifter....I really thing this is at least part of the problem. I was unaware that there were two different shift towers also. And knowing that makes me think that the solution may be as simple as the swap of shifters. If I get bored enough I may go out and piddle with it this afternoon despite the weather. Many thanks for the suggestions.
