Ford f'ing trucks (F-150, 250...) coils work. 4.5" of lift, rides like you've not got any suspension, outflexes a forklift by a hair. Some of them need to be 'modified' to fit on the coil bucket though, as they have a cross to retain them at the bottom. Got angle grinder? Ford thunderbird coils work. They're weird. V8GC coils. Yup. 1.25" maybe. As far as other junkyard things go... Take a set of calipers, a tape measure, and a calculator and you can figure 'em out.

more power out of the 4.0 litre
DirtyComanche replied to Diggerbob's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Normally, you don't use the stock 5.o injects. They are however better because of the spray pattern. -
That front inner fender has got to go.

So, Bountyhunter, you were right, and I was too lazy to look up my old crap to confirm that. Anyways, no put bolting a wimpy XJ axle in anyways, so who cares.
-
Well, at 107 octane it's not exactly like you should be running a 8:1 CR. However, I know enough dual fuel sluts that I'm not bothered by it... I think I'll try it, and if it doesn't work really well I could either shave the head, or just swear at it a bit and consider a new drivetran. The cam isn't a huge deal. Propane cams have slightly longer exhaust durations; but it's not actually for power. They like to let the exhaust valves seat 'softer'. And as far as the advantages/disadvantages, well, I don't really care. Life's too boring if you never try stupid ideas. I'll probably look around for a complete harness...
-
It depends. I haven't tried it. So who knows. Oh, and I drew* a FBD for the different spring perches, sorta... I stopped because I realized it was irrelevent. At least, given the factors I chose to alter. As long as the perch is LONGER than the width of the axle tube plus whatever space you need for the u-bolts (essenitially, as long as the perch is as long as the top plate) there will be NO altering of the forces applied on the spring. Also factor in, I left the overload spring in for my scribbles. In practice you should have it on a MJ, or anything with a positivly arched spring. *scribbled. I'm lazy.

Make it yourself... Couple feet of 3" ABS pipe and a cone filter. And that'll cost you like $10.

Nope. Just plug and play.

I got fed up yesterday. I don't want any of the wiring, vacuum lines, and current fuel system BS that's uder my hood. So, that'd mean we need to do a conversion. I 'think' my conversion would require: (This is for an 89 4.0 Renix engine) Junkyarding: Propane tank Mixer (260-300CFM) Regulator Assorted hoses. Ah, maybe buy them new. Probably should talk to the local impco dealer or something... CJ/YJ intake (carbed intake), or modify the renix one? (Fill various holes) CJ/YJ ignition, being dist, coil and god knows what else Make: Adapter plate for mixer. Tank mounts, line mounts, etc. No big deal. I have no idea what will happen when you remove the computer with the renix. I'll probably have no headlights or gauges and etc, but that's something to deal with as it happens! Basically, if in doubt, cut it out!

MJ is 1064mm centre/centre. The XJ works out to being about 11**mm centre/centre (you have to do math to figure it out and I'm too lazy right now. It works out to being about 1/4-3/8s wider on each side, IIRC.)
-
I could draw you a FBD. But, I won't, because you guys are arguing spring perches. And I don't have the time to read all of that... I can tell you from experience ONLY that as long as they are the same length as the spring plate or slightly longer, you won't have any spring wrap. That's also providing that you have the actual springs setup right (the BIG part of the equation).

Don't make me! Image Not Found Image Not Found We had this disscussion before!

All 4.0 autos came with AW4s. Rest assured. But, if you pick up a 2wd and convert it, the 2wd AW4 is of no use.

more power out of the 4.0 litre

They flow a little more, but the 5.0 ford injectors are better. -

Larger injectors without really modifying the engine is a waste. It's similar to over-carbing an engine. Everything suffers. But the ford injectors do have a better spray pattern. -
Let's talk alternators.

Oh, that was AFTER $20 at the car wash. The alt was toast part way through the day, no avoiding it. -
He ment AX-15. The AX-5 blows. The 4cyl can shred them!
-
Why no granny gear! That's the best part! People. Oh, umm, you could easily make the unibody strong enough to hold the 4bt. but like I said, it won't fit. I don't think.

DirtyComanche replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh, alternators aren't supposed to be submerged in dirty water/mud. They do fine in clean water though. I'll get the pic of the inside of the air box from my XJ if you want an idea what I mean.... -
Get a 4wd SM465. Or do the jetta TDI swap. Aparently it works out easily if you use an abomination of volkswagon, suzuki and toyota parts or something. Oh yeah, and the 4bt won't physically fit in a MJ/XJ apparently.

Well, I can go ask the local guys if there is one. I don't want to buy one new and blow it up. But I can see if I can get a number and get lucky.
