  1. hahahaha!
  2. Posting about murdering the MJ in a fiery death ball here keeps me from actually doing it...
  3. Torqued to german specs: Gutentight. :D
  4. TBI won't separate to allow access to the last two manifold bolts.
  5. :headpop: Can't get the TBI off, to get to the godamn manifolds to get the head off.
  6. Looks like a grade 8 1 1/4" long 3/8" head. Hopefully I can get this @#$%er off tonight :headpop:
  7. Is the throttle position sensor new?
  8. Not to hijack, but how about a 242 behind an AX5? Is that doable?
  9. Holy $#!&, I just realized your old bumper is still attached. That's going to take some frame work.
  10. Crush that @#$%ing scumbag. Edit - I see he's a retired lawyer, this just got way more interesting.
  11. 1/16th? No way, this thing was closer to 1/4". I didn't RTV anything for the old valve cover, just tried to epoxy the cracks and put a new gasket on. Epoxy didn't hold, and the bolt holes were cracked off in several places, so I bought a new valve cover for 40 bucks.
  12. O'Reilly's. Thick rubber bugger, which I'm sure would have worked had the cover not been cracked all to hell. Then I got a new valve cover which came with some wierd permatex/foam thing. It worked, so it's still on there. Or was, until tonight, when I started pulling the head.
  13. The VC/Head mating surface on my 2.5 was as cast! It apparently missed the milling operation entirely. Imagine my surprise at prying the leaky old cover off and finding that  Mine's the same. Seems to be par for the course for 2.5s. Probably the reason the rubber gasket is so thick.
  14. http://king-of-clubs.blogspot.com/ That's the site I'm using as a guide for recoloring my 'porno red' interior. SEM color coat vinyl dye and a low luster SEM clearcoat is what he uses, multiple applications of each, of course.
  15. Man, you haul @$$ offroad. I would have just idled through all that.
  16. I searched, but couldn't find a particular thread specifically on head removal. So, I have some questions.. What size and thread pitch are the exhaust manifold and intake bolts? Apparently two of mine are missing. Can I just unbolt both manifolds (and the pass side bracketry) and lift the head straight up and out? Or does the throttle body assembly need to come off or loosen? Am I correct in thinking this top end looks pretty decent? Bonus points if you can figure out why the hell my red jeep looks like a banana in this picture.. :hmm: Bottom left is where my leak is coming from. White smoke from tailpipe, but no milkshake oil makes me think cracked head/blown head gasket. As soon as I get the manifolds off and head up it's going to the machine shop or the dump. Any advice short of setting the whole thing on fire is welcomed.
  17. Damn. They don't make them like you anymore.
  18. It's possible. I've had to put on and take off the valve cover several times to get the gasket aligned right. If you have a torque wrench, it eliminates the uncertainty inherent in tightening bolts blind. 55 in lbs for RTV, 44 for permanent gasket.
  19. Are you 100% that it isn't cracked? I had to get a new valve cover for my 86 2.5. Hairline crack leading up from one of the bolt holes.

    Just venting

It gets better. And it could certainly be worse. Focus on the immediate, let everything else fall away. One step in front of the other will take you as far as you want.
  21. I was just reading about one, wagen.. a 2.7L. It was a fantastic read, too, even if it was just a YJ. Let me find a link. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/2-7l ... ok-457885/ Here's the good part: Dyno thread: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/back ... er-481639/ That said, I think that in Euroland, this wouldn't be something I would attempt, unless you had the same type of resources (machine shop/racing engine background).
  22. I could swear I read a thread about someone having this problem and it being a clogged screen in the tank, but I can't find it.
  23. I'd give anything for it to be that instead of the head gasket. :ack: Lower hose still has the spring in it. That must be disconcerting, you don't have a 165 thermostat in it, do you?
  24. Wow. This much angst over a pinion leak, I'd hate to see you when a head gasket or a rear main goes.. :D
  25. What a perfectly apt name for an 86 4banger. It's like you've driven mine :rotf:
