  1. The shackles installed on the MJ And because I figured it would not hurt anything I removed the non working clock and installed a Vacuum guage as it turns out i have a non-clock insert in the parts MJ i could have used, would have saved a little time and there won't be a hole where the clock display was... But that will give me something to do on the weekend.
  2. It's a d44, and its a roll pin I guess it's about half way out but it's stuck, I can't see through it so there may have been something rammed in the middle of the pin, but not all the way.
  3. Still can't get the pin out... I am about ready to buy another open carrier... I need new rear gears anyway. I put a Trac-Lok carrier in till I get everything I need for the new carrier to be setup. I just need to move the truck from where it is to my house, then later to a local shop. Being that the gears are not setup at this point would this be acceptable?
  4. did not try PB blaster, I do have a few cans at home i could try I took one of our old screwdrivers what was on its way to useless, and did the same thing you did... there has got to be something on that pin... there is now telling If the pen has not been removed when i get the axle shaft, i will give that and some PB blaster a try. (not at the same time)
  5. i bent 4 allen wrenches, 3 drift bunch, and sacrificed 3 screwdrivers for their shaft.. I also smashed my hand with the BFH I was using, still now luck... I called the machine shop, still no progress, but the carrier might be low on their to do list.
  6. here is dads current MPG My current running mpg is in my sig
  7. A few weeks ago I removed the open carrier from my MJ to install an Aussie locker, the only thing keeping me from installing it was s roll pit that just would not come out... The past several weekends i spent hours trying to get it out only to add to a pile of bent tools instead. I finally gave up and took it to a machine shop Friday they where busy that day but said it would be ready Monday and they would call me when it was ready. So by Tuesday I still have not heard from then so i called to check on the progress, his exact words where "We are still trying to get the damn pin out without damaging anything".. that kinda made me feel better knowing I was not the only person having issues with that pin.. lol on the plus side I will be getting my axle shaft back from them with new bearings pressed on
  8. There was a big thread where people where saying the 231 was better than the 242 and vice versa. Some thing to note when using the 242. The shift gate is different. It will hang a little lower than the 231 but not by much.
  9. I don't get snow in south Alabama, so I can't say how using 4wd with a front auto locker will work out for you. Search the MJ tech and pub for more info or google it. I think it would be a bad idea to run a front auto locker and use it on snow and ice on-road
  10. It looks like the thread was moved where it should be. The lockers you get will depend on how much you can spend and what transfercase you plan to use. The 242 offers 2wd, 4wd part time, 4wd full time, neutral, 4wd low part time. The 231 offers 2wd, 4wd part time, neutral, 4wd low part time. 4wd part time means the front and rear drive shafts are locked it will not allow one to spin faster than the other, like during turns. 4wd full time allows the drive shafts to spin at different speeds, again during turns for example. This is important because if the shafts can't differentiate it will cause the transfer case to bind and in worst case snap the case. Now for the locker, Auto locker or lunchbox lockers, they work about the same, lock the axle when power is applied and unlock when there is no power (coasting down hill, or letting off the throttle) auto lockers can be bought as a full carrier replacement or a spider gear replacement. (I just bought an Aussie locker for my rear Dana 44) You can only install a lunchbox (spider gear replacement) locker in an open diff carrier. It will not work in a limited slip carrier. For the most part (from what i have read and been told) auto lockers are safe to use in the rear axle of daily drivers, however if you plan to use an auto locker in the front axle you will not be able to safely use the 242's full time feature. So in that case I would get a 231 because they are usually easier to find. Driving a auto locker in the front axle while in 2wd it will seem like its not there. Selectable lockers, These lockers are full carrier replacements and can be turned on and off at will, so if you had a 242 you could run a selectable in the front with it off while in full time and it will act just like a open diff, when you are ready for off road just turn on the locker and now the axle is locked. ( I plan to get a selectable locker for the front axle)
  11. There is a write up for swapping the bench for buckets but needs minor fab work, or find a MJ with bucket seats. The console is very simple to swap just make sure you have all the mounting brackets. Also I think this thread is in the wrong section,
  12. For axles the best no fabrication required would be the MJ Dana 44 in the rear and a 97-99? HP Dana 30 (should have the larger u-joints) or non cad Dana 30 89-96 (smaller u-joints but will be one part shafts) up front Transfer case, I am running a 242 behind my AX-15, I like it because it offers Full time 4wd, just take note that an auto locker in the front axle while in full time 4wd is a bad idea, however a selectable locker is ok to run in full time 4wd while it is off. If you plan to run an auto locker in the front just get the 231. All the rear leaf springs for the MJ mount the same, if you find big ton springs from a long bed they will work on your short bed. I bought my MT leaf springs new from Hell Creek Suspension, they offer a discount to Comanche club members. Their springs are very well made. The gauge cluster can be swapped out and is for the most part plug and play, just replace the sending units for oil pressure and coolant temp and should be good to go. When shopping just take note of the plastic of the cluster, if its light blue get another with light blue plastic, if its white then get one with white plastic, they are not interchangeable.
  13. I manage one of the Anytime Fitness gyms my parents own.
  14. Maybe in 5-8 years will be able to get a good used 2014 diesel Grand Cherokee lol When i was shopping for WKs there was a Diesel in Texas that was in the price range i was looking for, however I needed Dad to co-sign a loan for me and he only had one day off. (his first day off in 43 days)... would have been nice WK..
  15. Does anyone have a good write-up for replacing the bearings on Dana 44 shafts? my axle has had a whine for a while, i figured while the shafts are out i might as well replace the bearings. thanks
  16. Tried that, it's now broken off and stuck in the carrier, the pin is almost half way out I think and won't go any farther... I have just about had it with that carrier... My hopes to put in the limited slip carrier to limp it home also failed when the passenger side shaft bearing won't go in.. What's a good indicator that the bearing has killed? The drivers side went in without any issue.
  17. Today being a nice day outside I started working on installing my new Aussie locker. I am to the f...... Roll pin and I am stuck. Any advice? So far I have smashed my had hard enough to invoke mild nausea.. I have a pin punch set but it seems to be too short.
  18. Also if the old o ring from the old oil filter stuck to the adaptor when you changed the oil last and the new filter on that can also cause a leak.
  19. When I first got my MJ I was paying $64 per month for basic. Now I am paying full coverage on my 05 WK and basic on the MJ at $114 per month. I just turned 22 and my monthly payments dropped :)
  20. I found more info here http://comancheclub.com/topic/19295-wj-upper-control-arms-installed/
  21. Will WJ upper arms work too? The lowers will require minor grinding to fit.
  22. look around in you pull it Junk yards, normally the price is cheaper than a they pull it.I bought a XJ D44 from a u pull it for $90... (actually all the truck axles where about $90 dollars total no matter what it came from)... now getting the darn thing from the back of the yard in a wheelbarrow with a nearly flat tire to my truck that's another story i don't want to remember..
  23. I drove the Comanche on the interstate again today, this time with the gps in 5th gear at about 2225 RPM the GPS had me going 70 MPH, the speedometer was slow by 3 mph in 5th gear at about 2500 RPM the GPS had me going 75 MPH, the speedometer was slow by 5 mph Tirerack.com states the tire height is 30.8" I am currently running a 32 tooth speedometer gear, I used this chart when buying the gear To fix the speedometer, would changing the tire pressure be enough to fix it? or should i get a different gear? and the vibe id not come back while in full time 4wd?... when i got home the other day i swapped the intake setup (tube and filter) to how i had it (Cone filter attached to stock intake tube), it seemed to like it better and i was able to get to 80 this time without much problem..
