V8 in a Comanche?
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I am still at the point i don't really know what i want to do with that Jeep. I have thought about Getting a I-6 and stroking it, but I don't have an engine for it.. Thats why i wanted a V8, might as well. I most likley will get an I-6 to start with (at least then i can move it under its own power) and upgrade to a V8 later (when i have some money).. but still not sure.. Who knows If I do get a I-6 for it maybe later i will stroke it and keep that in it or move it to the other MJ. Just so many things I want to so with the new MJ I can't stick with one for more than a 5min. -
V8 in a Comanche?
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well this being my first engine swap and the most mec. work and the biggest i have ever done. I wanted to do something that was "cheap" and "easy"... easy being relative to dealing with computers and what not... Mostly I think my Uncle, and cousin will be helping me... None of us really have any experience so I plan to take lots of pictures and ask lots of questions. I have a few friends, that know exactly is needed, I will ask what I need to do and get some help on things i can't do, like welding.... If I get a 3rd MJ ,I just might for the right price, I would stick with something like you where saying, Jeep, Mopar, Chrysler. By then I might actually know what I am doing :hmm: -

V8 in a Comanche?
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think the personal trainer at my gym has me set on getting a chevy 350 with a 700r4 tranny. Not sure on carb. or injected yet. I told one of my friends at the auto parts store in town what I was doing he thought I was joking. The other guy thought I sold my current MJ and was shocked I would do so. :rotfl2: But I am still looking around for what I need/want. I am going to make my second MJ a show Jeep.. Something that looks like a stock jeep on the outside put is pure power on the inside... And my friends think I should go with a 454... I don't think so... -

Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Awesome!!! Thanks for all the info! right now I am trying to learn as much as i can about auto mec. work and auto body stuff... I did not have any "auto mec. or shop class" in high school so i am learning as i go... and thankfully haven't crippled my MJ yet.. or my uncles sports car I mess with... so anything is helpful. thanks again! edit: By paint shop i mean something i can set up in my uncles 2 car garage.. -

 It might just be me but is there room for single or dual turbo? Yes I know our F-250 is bigger but, I love the Turbo on it! -
I already know Most of you are going to say "get a paint gun" but, what about the paint? Where can I get it locally (big name hard ware stores, wal-mart :shake: , or online? What type of paint, how to thin the paint if needed, how to prep the jeep, how to make my own "paint shop", dry time between coats, clear coat, how many coats of what? Any thing and everything you have to say comment or what ever will be great! I am still a ways from needing to repaint my Jeep but I would like to know in advanced so i can get the stuff and do a little practicing before i try it on the Jeep. I can paint fairly good with a spray can but... I want a paint gun. :shake:

I was looking at some V8 at Car-Part.com.... as i was reading i saw one that said "runs good" and another that said "ran Good" so is the second one not running any more? May be a stupid question but i have no idea the what the going price is but is $700-$850 a good price for a Jeep/Dodge 5.9L? -

I am getting a 88 MJ that has everything but the engine (or so i am told) it had a 4.0L I would like to get it running while i save up for a V8 upgrade. I don't really have a place to store the MJ or parts so i guess i am going for plug and play for now. I will know more about the MJ saturday when i go get it. thanks
