exactly what happened to mine ... the line was hitting against the lower firewall , hard to see , but just enough to drive ya nuts ! :doh: :MJ 1: :banana:

those headlight / stone guards were made by rally ... ( maybe others) i have them on my mj/xj , available either black or chrome . they show up on ebay now and then :MJ 1: :banana:

my 2.8 '86 xj had 230,000 on it ... ran like a clock , used no oil and aways passed emissions ... guess you either have good luck with 'em or not ! :MJ 1: :banana:

tried to get a "build sheet" though chrysler for my '87 ... no luck ! apparently they don't have the records from the AMC days ! does anyone know another source ??? :MJ 1: :banana:

UPDATE : finally got a chance to put the ol' boy up in the air ( on a buddy's lift ... thx dave for the " lift-time! " ) anywho , cracked the drain plug open and out came about a whole half a quart of 26 yr old CRAP !!! HOLY S*** ! refilled it with some synthetic gear oil . now shifts ( and no more growling ) like butter ! good for another 140,000 !!! thx to c/c members , geonovast and amc-mj for the replies !!! :MJ 1: :banana:

so , my 2nd gear is starting to get a "little" loud (ax-4) , truck is an '87 w/4 cyl -4sp around 140,000 on it's ticker ! it runs like a clock but recently i've notice my tranny (2nd) is whinning ! so , i thought i'd ask the pro's , is it on the way out ? is there something i can do to "tone it down" ? i know everyone poo-poo's the 4 speed , but if i had to replace it , i'd like to keep it original ... i "baby" it so, it's driven like an old man ... definately not abused so , what are my options guys ???? as always thanks for the input ! :MJ 1: :banana:

( you guessed it ) the "fuel-miser" hence my screen name ! bare bones interior ... no rear bumper ... no tailgate ... spare tire ! someone added these to my truck somewhere down the line there's still a plate light mounted to the body behind my bumper , and my tail gate has a 4.0 emblem on it , when it's still got it's original 2.5 in it !!! :banana: :MJ 1:

hello , i recently put a "swb" tank in a '87 "lwb" just use 2 tank straps instead of 3 ... filler does NOT line up , however , with a couple of copper plumbing elbows and some flex type hose from napa and it works just fine ! :banana: sending unit / pump from the " swb " where for a 6 cyl . as was the truck it went in . i don't see why a 4 cyl wouldn't work , but i've heard they are differant (?) :dunno: maybe someone out there knows for sure ... good luck !

those guards are made by rally i have them on my '87 mj and my '99 xj ... originally chrome , they did rust ,so i gave them a couple coats of rustoleum satin black ... they look fine ( if i could figure out how to pix's up i'd show you ! ) should be able to find them on ebay :banana:

while i was driving mine , 1 passed me ( shortbed ) all primer w/ red tailgate , 1 in the woods ( been there a long time , i should ask about it ! ) and the other in my yard , total 4 ! not bad for rhode island ! :banana:

on the way home from work , 3 comanches ( 2 short beds 1 long ) ... plus , 2 in my yard ! :banana:
